On the left, there should be an F under the EU flag. Here it's replaced by EU for European union (even if let's be real, France would have it as Union européenne).

On the right there should be departements number and the region flag (or whatever sticker people put there). Here it's the french flag and the F that was on teh left.

AKA, it's a european federation plate.

Keeping nation-states as we know it would be detrimental to the federation IMHO. I believe we should only keep the nation (eg. catalans, occitans, I don't know any other)

The problem with "nations" is that you can keep making more. As you can always find more within established nations-states and within those.

Then you reach the problem that nations-states had/have, that nobody aggres on their borders, as they are not a perfect line where someone quit being a nation once they move out of it. Just look at B&H, or at Cyprus before the war. Hech, Swiss counties are not based on cultural-linguistic lines either.

That's why, speaking of France, they choose to redraw the borders for the subdivision (département) after the first revolution and give them nature-related names (mostly), because they wanted to do something new, and also unify the French nation

And sometimes to divide some problematic ones (looking at you savoie, or bretagne) too, but yeah mostly what you said. But nothing binds you to a specific nation in the glorious European Federation, as it doesn't need the propaganda machine of the state to make you care for it !

My bad, read more about it and it looks like that it was approved with the savoyard population when annexed by Napoléon III, but the historical context is quite complex, the source might also be imperial propaganda. Don't have access to primary sources anyways, but wikipedia, citing The new encyclopedy of high-savoy, has this to say : "[l'annexion est] accompagné de la création d'une Grande Zone franche au Nord de la Savoie, afin d'emporter l'adhésion populaire à la question « La Savoie veut-elle être réunie à la France ? ». It implies a federal Europe with the subregion that is now countries on the right. This is not to say the current French plates aren't perfectly fine or maybe even preferred under a federal Europe.
