Been riding for 10+ years and never have ridden a bike with a tune that neuters 2nd gear so bad. I am absolutely mesmerized because all the other R9 owners I’ve talked to in person have said they have no idea what I am talking about. Drives me nuts, that 2nd gear has 75% power. What tune and exhaust recommendations do you all have, I need to get this thing running how it should be from the factory.
Bonus question, I’ve seen mixed reviews about mt09 exhausts direct bolting up to the r9. I’ve seen some people say it bolts right up and others say they had to make special brackets and sometimes clearance is an issue when leaning on the right side.
I went with dna intake, Akra exhaust, and 2WDW ecu flash. This thing absolutely rips now! Feels sooooo much better with that 2nd gear bs gone! I noticed it immediately when I drove it after purchase. Couldn’t get it flashed quick enough. Absolutely feels like it should from factory now b
2WDW tune and Yoshimura speed exhaust. Very pleased with both and the performance gain. Exhaust choice is a personal preference. Any of the leading ones will do.
2wdw (just type that into google and put yamaha r9 after) and then an sc project cr-t exhaust and youre done. Although if you can locate a motorcycle dynotune location near you then get it done there. Also if you are really feeling it you can install a high flow filter.
Exhaust wise, sc like you said is good. Racefit is another good option as well as yoshimura at2 race exhaust. I didn’t like the street version of the yoshi
I had one guy arguing with me for 2 days on here that it wasn't a thing.
You got options. Vcyclenut will flash it or you can get your own tuning box from woolich racing. You'll see that in 2nd the throttle map is like 30% at 4k rpm.
MT09 (and r9) etc are too.. but I live in the UK, and over here, despite new bikes having to be sold euro5+, a motorcycle MOT does not test emisions at all.. which is nice.
Dominator is a great cheap brand, but build quality reflects price. I had an sc crt with vcyclenut tune on mine and it sounded amazing. If u want loud, sc crt, or spark gp are good options. If u want the most performance, I think the bigger cans like graves, arrow, and akra are nice options.
But my recommendation will always be SC CRT with a vcycle tune
