Can I dissect my yarn? Or make it into bobbins to separate colors?

Crochet assistance

Hey everyone! I’m relatively new at crocheting, I used to do it with my grandma when I was little and I wanted to get into it again. So far I’ve only made some tryout hats 😅 but I wanted to give a go to a simple cardigan pattern.

Does anybody know what type of yarn I should get to make it actually weareable?

How to clean yarn on a cone

Hello beautiful yarn folks...

I am in the process of opening a local yarn store and I bought a yarn store inventory someone had been storing in the garage. It's all older cone yarn, like you would use for knitting machines. Some of it is a bit dusty. No bugs, no animals chews on anything, just a bit dusty from being wrapped in plastic (that is clearly old) for the last 20 or 30 years.

I really want to sell it in my store, sort of like a yarn salad bar kind of style (you can buy as much as you want, we will sell it by weight, wind it for you either into a hank or ball, and a lot of it is single ply so you can choose two, three or four and we will ply it for you into your very own custom yarn!).

I can't really de-cone it to clean it, but that might be what I have to do it get it nice again... thoughts, ideas, inspiration, all are welcome!

Yarn clearance at Michaels

I went to Michaels yesterday to see if they had the new caron yarn. Not yet at nys tore but I did notice they had a new clearance for yarns. They moved yarn out to make room for fabric.

The thing kinda annoyed me was that the yarn was on clearance for 9 dollars some 6 but I got yarn on clearance for 5 before.

Incase anyone was waiting for clearance to buy yarn I wanted to let y'all know what I saw 😊

Cardiff Cashmere (US/Tariffs)

Hi folks! I want to buy some Cardiff Cashmere Classic and am not having luck with the color + quantity I need from US based shippers. I’m located on the East Coast!

Has anyone recently bought Cardiff from Itaca Yarns? If so, what was your experience? Did you get any tariffs? My total would be under $150 (if that makes a difference).

Thanks ya’ll!!

Chunky Acrylic yarn that looks like Aran wool

Literally where do I start because I need to choose the yarn. I’m in the UK I’m covering a piece of furniture with a chunky Aran pattern. I need a natural wool coloured chunky synthetic yarn.

I don’t want real wool because it will felt and pill with body warmth and weight. I don’t want superwash because it will stretch. I’m looking for a 100% synthetic or a synthetic/wool blend that is the same dull muted cream as natural wool. Not margarine coloured. Oh I miss my LYS. Can anyone recommend a yarn that’s available in the UK.

I fell in love with this yarn, but I don't want to support hobbii. Is there something similar elsewhere?

I love these colours together and already have a project in mind for it, but I don't want to give money to hobbii. Any yarn that looks close will be perfect, thank you 😊

Where to buy yarn from in the UK?🧶

Hello! 👋

I’m moving to the UK (South-West London, Kingston area) in September and would love some recommendations for good local yarn shops and/or UK-based online shops.

Are there any specific UK based brands/ranges that are recommended? I would love to try some smaller/independant brands as well!

Where are your favourite places to buy yarn in the UK? 😊

Similar coloured yarns which aren't single ply?

Hi all! For one of my holiday makes this year I am crocheting Hannah Drapinski's Spiral Sweater for my sister. Her vibe for clothing is kinda 90s witchy/whimsigoth and her favourite colours are purples pinks and blues, so I'm planning to make the Colour B for the spiral a variegated yarn with that kind of aesthetic. This colourway of the King Cole Riot DK (I believe it's called "Party") would be perfect, except it's a single ply yarn which I absolutely loathe crocheting with. Does anybody know of anything similar that isn't a single ply? I need it to be either a DK or Aran weight (3 or 4 if you work better off numbers), and I prefer a natural fibre though I'm not opposed to acrylic provided it's not scratchy. I'm also currently between yarn winders so ideally nothing in hank form, though I'm not opposed to that either if the colour is pretty enough.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: forgot to state I'm in the UK so it has to be a yarn available here as well

silly sparkle question

This feels extremely silly, but what is the proper name for the lurex/sparkle/shimmer fibers that are used in spun yarn?

I've been getting into dying, blending, and spinning my own wool and I'd like to add some sparkle but I am having the hardest time finding sources for the fibers. Maybe I'm not calling it the proper name?

If anyone has a sparkler dealer of choice or advice, I'm all ears ✨️

Sweater yarn recommendations?

Hi all! I have been knitting for about a year now, and I’ve used a couple wool yarns as well as acrylic, but I am looking for more yarn recommendations for a sweater I want to make for my husband! :)

I’ve made one sweater for myself with Malabrigo Rios and I love it but it’s very drapey. However, it was so soft and it wears so nicely.

And I’ve made another sweater with Sandnes Garn Peer Gynt, which I also love, but it’s on the itchier side.

I know my husband won’t love an itchy yarn or like having to wear a shirt under his sweater all of the time. Plus, I also want to make something that holds its shape. Does anyone have any yarn recommendations that match that? Maybe a cotton/wool blend?

I found loads and loads of this yarn in a thrift shop close to me. I found it pretty, and I had just taken upp knitting so I bought it. I do not know a lot about yarn, so I ask, can anyone help me identify the type of yarn it could be? I do not know anything about yarn, so feel free to ask questions that could give you clues. Thank you!

ISO Hobbii Daily Stitch Acrylic in white (or a dupe!)

Post image
1 Upvotes

I just ran out of yarn about 30 rows from finishing a mosaic crochet I'm working on. The smaller skeins on hobbii's site are discontinued, the larger are out of stock in white.

I've tried yarnsub.com but I'm not getting great hits: most are either gradients, unfindable, or out of stock in white. Posted in r/yarnswap and the yarn swap discord, no bites. I don't mind using a dupe, it's just finding one that's become a problem. I'll be so sad if this project goes unfinished. I found one possible on yarnsub (papatya love dk) but would love some insight before I spend 3x as much on shipping as on the skein.

Thanks friends!

Looking for gradient yarn in blue, purple and pink

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi :) Sorry if this isn't the right place for this. I've recently been asked by my twin if I can crochet some flowers for decorations at their wedding. They don't need to be realistic colours , but they'd like it if I stick to their colour scheme of blue, purple, pink.

Attached an image of the shades they are aiming for.

My question is mostly whether anyone can recommend any good gradient, ombre or variegated yarns in these shades? Preferably ones that are easy to get in the UK and not too expensive. I'm mostly looking for dk, though I do have another cool pattern that uses aran. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried to have a look online, but the closest I've found aren't very close matches at all. Maybe it doesn't exist, which is fair, but I thought I'd ask here before giving up.

Thank you all.

Working on some of my favorite colorways last night and lost track of time... Until i saw how many were on the drying rack.

I think this is the most I ever did in one night. My feet hurt from running around by the end of it.
