i’m considering going to York’s BCom program and I’m mainly interested in going into accounting.

For anyone who is currently in the program or has graduated, how has your experience been? Specifically, I’m wondering how good the accounting stream is and how difficult was it to find internships or a decent job in accounting? Also, how helpful are the networking opportunities and career resources at York?

I’d especially like to hear from people who graduated from the program and what kind of jobs you were able to get afterward.

Any advice or experiences would be appreciated!

The problem I was trying to solve is pretty simple: sometimes one student is trying to get into a course that's full while another student is trying to drop that same course. It can be difficult for those students to find each other.

You can post a course you're dropping or search for a course you're looking for. If you find a match, you can message the other student and coordinate the change through REM.

It doesn't reserve or transfer seats — it just helps students connect.

It's brand new, so I'm looking for honest feedback from York students, especially on whether the idea is actually useful and what you'd change or add.

Would you use something like this when trying to switch courses?

basically, i hit the program-specific limit for osap funding (8 terms plus 1 year) for a variety of reasons. i had to leave school for a few years to caregive for a sick relative, tried to appeal to financial aid but no luck, as its a strict rule which i respect.

i come from a low-income family so nobody can co-sign a bank loan for me, even though i went in with a steady income from my pt job and a decent credit score. i would pay for school out of pocket, but i can't afford it. scholarships are also unlikely bc my grades were hurt before i left school. im rebounding after coming back this january, so i'm hopeful i'll be in a better place by the spring.

i'm due to lose full time osap funding in january 2027, so i'm trying to figure out what to do about finding funding for my final year. right now osap gave me a solid shortfall to pay for in the fall term.

i plan to talk to other banks, but without a co-signer i don't see that going anywhere. i'm intending to save what i can, and try to find a second job, etc.

if anyone else has gone through this and has advice, i would be open to it. thanks in the meantime

Hi everyone, I’m a 2nd-year Criminology student at York. Before coming back to school, I had an almost 20 year career in tech where I spent a lot of time interviewing candidates for all kinds of roles.

I know how stressful interviews can be (I've sat through dozens of interviews as a candidate myself), so I'm thinking about starting a club to help people get comfortable with the process.

The idea is simple:

During each meeting, we’d run live, 1-on-1 mock interviews in front of the group. One person acts as the candidate and I’ll run the interview. Everyone gets to watch, analyze, discuss, and take turns in the hot seat over time. It’s a low-stakes environment to get real-time feedback and build confidence before the real thing.

A few people have pointed out that York already offers interview coaching. I see this club as complementing that: a group environment where people can learn by participating in and observing mock interviews, while also getting to know each other and having a good time. Observing is just as important as participating.

A bit about me: Before returning to school, I spent nearly 20 years in tech, most recently as a director at a large consulting firm. Over the course of my career, I interviewed hundreds of candidates for roles ranging from entry-level positions to management and designed interview processes for multiple companies. I bring practical, hiring-side experience to the group.

I’d also eventually like to bring in other mature students with hiring experience in different fields, giving everyone an even wider range of perspectives to learn from.

Since the dorm i'm in comes with a kitchen, i'm trying to get rid of my meal plan before the semester starts. I've emailed the department that deals with YU cards about it, since I saw somewhere that they handle these issues. Is waiting for a response all that I can do, or can I complete this cancellation myself on my student account or something like that? Thanks for the help ~

I don’t see any building location on them, and I took them thinking that they are online. They aren’t in person right? (Other than exams and stuff)

My tuition is $6,108.16 for the entire year and York said that we need to pay 50% in September and the other 50% in January.

But the minimum payment I need to make this month is $2,328 which isn't even 50% of $6,108.

Can someone please clarify this?????

Imagine you knew your professor used Al to make their tests/assignments, provide feedback for students, and answer emails. When they didn't know the answer to something, they would either ask ChatGPT or tell you to ask an LLM for the answer. In their professional research, they use AI to analyze their data and write up results. If they get stuck with a problem, they will ask ChatGPT for a solution.

Okay so you know the 2FA thing that everyone and their mom had to (forcefully on a chokehold) had to start using because of security reasons? Yeah for some reason i have to update my android version to Android 17, im in Android 16 but it is bothering me since my phone isnt avalible to update yet. I may just have to leave it be since, even tho its saying that its going to pose a security risk, really what is the difference between 16 and 17? There really isnt much other than an eyesore for Duo to keep bothering me with.

TL;DR, apparently I need Android 17 for DUO to "properly work" but my phone is Android 16, so its only going to be an annoying eyesore when authenticating 🫩
