New books are coming out, and (assuming you’ve read all the books) we know not many people have died. I could be wrong but I swear the Suriel was the only person who died in the series / didn’t start of dead? And Amarantha.

I’ve seen many posts critiquing SJM for her unwillingness to kill of a character, this post is mainly to ask you guys, the audience- if anyone had to die in the new books- who would YOU hope it would be and how would the plot follow it? (not necessarily the most reasonable or likely, just a bit of creative fun.)

I’ll go first:

Helion - The obvious answer but genuinely he made such a huge impression that if he died I would be slightly sad. However I’d be more intrigued about who the land chooses to be the next Day court heir, and how that would follow through.

Tarquin - Not to curse one of my minor faves here, but if he died it would be interesting. Why? We already know his place in court is a bit iffy, and it would be interesting if he died due to assassination or something and his court went into civil war. I highly doubt SJM would do this but idk hearing the politics of another court like his would be nice, especially after he lost such an important treasury.

Beron - Yeah he gotta go LOL he’s too sassy for his own good. But also, IMO Beron is one of the most powerful High Lords. Idk if SJM addressed this but if he died, I wonder due to the instability of his court (as Eris would probably have to duke it out with his brothers) if the other courts tried to take up the autumn court if that made sense? I don’t know, I don’t think we hear about the possibility of other courts devouring the others, so it’d be nice to have that threat be half alive!! This would be the only time I’d support Rhysand fully going morally-black and taking over Autumn or any high lord. We need sumn to happen between these courts istg.

Cassian or Azriel - Look. Yall dont hate me. But for the plot. If an important member of the IC truly died… yeah it would be good. The plot would thicken. If one of these two died… the spice would spice nicely taking our own emotions out of it. I’d say it more likely be Cassian with a warriors death.

I scroll on TikTok and see people going crazyyyy reading 8 TOG books and 3 CC books just to understand ACOTAR 6. Then I log onto Reddit and see people complaining they’re haaaaating TOG/CC but are doing it for ACOTAR6.

My hot take is… you probably won’t even need to read anything else!

SJM is a very smart author with a humongous publisher behind her. She KNOWS ACOTAR went VIRAL VIRAL. She knows there’s a legion of young adult fans that honestly may not even know she has this many other books or have zero interest in reading that much. I HIGHLY DOUBT they’d want to piss that majority of people off, that’d be a PR nightmare. And I doubt that any other books outside ACOTAR are mandatory reading to understand a book in the same series.

Going for a television analogy here (bc I cant recall any other cross overs in pop history) but when How To Get Away With Murder and Scandal had a cross over, you definitively did not have to watch the other show in its entirety to understand it.

I haven’t read CC2/3 yet, working on it! I know there’s some correlation, but if anything important happens, I’m sure a big part of ACOTAR6 will be rewinding whatever happened but from the POV of an ACOTAR character so readers can go and be up to date.

I think TOG is a BRILLIANT series, and now that I’m done CC1 I’m also really enjoying it. If you read all maybe you’ll get some fun easter eggs. But why be miserable and complain about them and hate read it? You can choose to not read it! I promise you’ll be fine!

tarquin!! he's so lovely, but dare i say i enjoyed his darker side when he was mad at feyre? nonetheless, i would really love to see more of his character- maybe possibly seeing him in love too!!

Balthazar’s name immediately made me think of Azriel, he’s being set up as a good guy, and his appearance could make him related to Az.

Balthazar gave myrrh to the Christ Child along with two other magi.

Three gifts: myrrh (bitterness, mortality, healing), gold (royalty, wealth, purity), and frankincense (holiness, purification, prayer)

We can see Nesta as a stand in for the gift of myrrh as she saved Nyx’s life. She was only able to be given because of Balthazar’s help at the Blood Rite.

Nesta could work as a set of 3 gifts in two ways.

As sister circle, Elain has seer abilities but she hasn’t been trying to use her powers. She’s saying she wants to do stuff but no evidence of action. I’m hoping Lucien will finally start pushing her. Feyre gave Nyx royalty since she is High Lady. Crazy stretch, but Tamlin drove Feyre into Rhys’s arms and he could have kept her when she promised him anything for saving Rhys, so he functionally gave Feyre to the night court.

Plus if Balthazar is related to Azriel, he may be good at spying. Balthazar has shown loyalty to the inner circle, but he is not been personally affected by Tamlin. With Rhys busy with fatherhood, a fresh face to keep an eye on and help Tamlin could be Balthazar. Maybe Balthazar’s boyish face will help Tamlin confront his child solider trauma.

Alternatively if it’s the Valkyries as a set of three then Gwen makes sense as Frankincense as a priestess. I think Azriel’s shadows dancing with her could be a clue of a connection, so maybe he’s her magi. I could see Gwen using priestess powers to help Nyx. That would leave Emerie (the business woman) as gold, defending Nyx’s power in some way. I think she will also have an Illyrian with her potentially one of Azriel’s older brothers or even father.

The Illyrians need to change and mirroring the valkyries could be very satisfying. Balthazar representing the youngest, not as set in his ways. Azriel deeply hurt by and opposes the Illyrian. Then an older Illyrian who is deeply set in the old ways and needs the most change.

I actually think that Balthazar maybe a younger brother or nephew of Azriel since they have biblical names and similar appearances. It could be a little mini family drama as a foil to the Valkyries.

Any thoughts?

I keep seeing people say the Archeron dresser has always been canonically Elain → Nesta → Feyre, but when I went back and checked the actual wording, that's not quite what ACOTAR says.

In ACOTAR, Chapter 2, Feyre describes the paintings as:

Elain → flowers
Nesta → flames
Feyre → stars

But she never says those are the top, middle and bottom drawers. She's simply listing what she painted on each sister's drawer.

ACOMAF Chapter 49 does the exact same thing. Feyre explains that the old black dresser had one drawer for each sister and again describes them as Elain → flowers, Nesta → flames, Feyre → night sky, but still gives no physical order.

Then we get to ACOSF Chapter 55, and this is where it gets interesting.

Cassian is actually touching the dresser and SJM explicitly establishes the physical order:

Top: Feyre's stars
Middle: Elain's flowers
Bottom: Nesta's flames

Cassian's fingers move to the second drawer and identify Elain's flowers, then “drifted lower” to Nesta's flames.

So the actual physical order established in canon is Feyre → Elain → Nesta.

Which makes me wonder: was the Elain → Nesta → Feyre order in ACOTAR simply the order Feyre happened to mention them in, or did SJM originally imagine the dresser that way and later change it?

Because there's another interesting wrinkle: in ACOFAS, Elain's birthday cake is decorated flowers → flames → stars, which is the same order Feyre uses when describing the sisters in the earlier books. But that's obviously a cake, not the dresser.

I don't think we can honestly call this a confirmed plot hole because ACOTAR never explicitly says Elain was on the top drawer and Feyre was on the bottom.

But I also don't think we should pretend there isn't an odd continuity issue here. SJM went from repeatedly describing the designs as Elain → Nesta → Feyre to later physically establishing the dresser as Feyre → Elain → Nesta.

And considering how much symbolic meaning SJM eventually attached to these paintings, I'm curious what everyone thinks.

Was the earlier order just narrative or listing order, an accidental continuity change, or was SJM intentionally clarifying something with the ACOSF arrangement?

Now that the covers and blurbs are released, what I’ve been seeing the most is people complaining about and asking if it’s necessary to read all 16 Massverse books before they read the new releases. With the open-ended finish of House of Flame and Shadow, and the fact that the cover of A Court of Forgotten Melody is a damn spider, I feel very confident in saying that yes, you do need to read them all.

As someone who actually prefers ToG and CC to ACOTAR, and loves the multiverse connections, I’m SO EXCITED with where it seems like things are heading. However, there are literally hundreds of thousands of readers who don’t know the other two series, and many have no interest in reading them. I’m genuinely not sure how the next two books will be written in a way where ACOTAR-only readers have the same experience as the rest of us.

These books have never been widely advertised as being part of a larger, interconnected world. I’m very curious to know what other readers think about where this has all ended up. If you have only read ACOTAR, are you going to try and read her other series? Or just stick with the one and hope she’s able to bring it all together? If you’ve read all 16 books, do you think ACOTAR can exist without the others? Or is Throne of Glass her only true stand-alone series?

While tracking something else, I ran across Morrigan saying the below to Feyre about Amren, and I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.

"Something about Starfall disturbs her, she claims." (MAF CH44)

It's odd because Amren has been part of the IC for centuries, so it should come as no surprise that Amren refuses to attend Starfall because it disturbs her. But Morrigan says this in response to Feyre directly asking why Amren won't take a break from decoding The Book of Breathings, to attend Starfall.

Just seems a strange way to put it, versus say, "Amren hasn't been to Starfall in centuries. It disturbs her, although she won't tell us how or why."

Would love to hear your thoughts/speculations on this, particularly in regard to what this means for the upcoming releases.

I know they probably used a shield or something but just imagine going throw your day in velaris and out of nowere you see your high lords in the Sky doing weird movements Up there, and almost Crush in to the roofs

I been rereading acotar and tog and there is very smaaaaallll thing that SMJshe does that annoys me.
Alot of the times, when there is a challange she'd say:
"X/he/she/they knew they were going to die"
the characters 90% of the time leave the challange unharmed, without scratch, just tired but alive.
Its annoying because its very predictable at this point and it dulls the anticipation. Same set up, same outcome.
Cassian, feyre, nesta, aelin and almost everyone whi has a pov in tog thought they were going to die atleast once every book but they lived, every single time. I really hope to see less of this in the upcoming books because i can't.

I'm currently re-reading in the lead up to the next books and something occured to me about the High Lords Meeting in ACOWAR. We are told in Chapter 18 that "The meeting will occur with a binding spell that forces us all into cease-fire. If someone breaks it while the meeting occurs, the magic will demand a steep cost. Probably their life."

We know that during the meeting Feyre attacks Beron, accidentally hurting the Lady of Autumn Court in the process but I don't recall any consequence to this. This could be a totally wild tangent but could the sequence of events in ACOSF aka Feyres pregnancy and death be the result of the meeting? Or have I thought too hard about this?
