I've read the FAQ & Rules ADVICE

so back in my home country i have connections to the industry but it’s so bad its just influencers and ads and i can take the easy path of becoming an actor or should i do the harder part study acting in new york and then become an actor based in new york?

Are you legally able to work in the US? Like, do you have citizenship in the US or a work visa?

Acting is a skill you build up. If you just go attempt to act without training, you will be terrible.

Same as I can't dance well unless I learn, or can't play the piano well unless I learn.

It's a skill. No easy way.

after i graduate im definitely taking it the harder way i wanna experience everything in the acting world like learning and getting a degree for it

Ok, so getting training, taking classes, etc is important.

But the other thing that u/jostler57 mentioned about a work visa is also important. Without a work visa, you aren't legally allowed to work in the US. This being a hurdle can make it difficult for you to even audition for projects. Not to mention the current political environment that we live in which makes it even more difficult.

That's fine.

But you still can't work for pay without a work visa. You are a student, not a worker.

i’ll probably do uni projects etc and then apply for a work visa also and i’m going to a film festival in november hopefully i meet people who inspire me!

Ok

Getting the work visa is the hard part. If you can do that, then that opens doors.

thanks! also i don’t want to be in the acting industry young cause its toxic i wanna get a degree in acting and film etc

I mean, there's no real right or wrong way to becoming an actor- many actors without a degree in acting have had fruitful careers and many who have degrees do not, and vice-versa.

Not sure what toxicity you're talking about, but there's bound to be the same no matter what level you're at. It's the same with any industry.

Many would argue that building your resume young is just as important. To have those credits early.
