Ai is ruining creative Strat

With this industry encouraging everyone to use Ai, coupled with more clients not enough people, I’ve just been seeing so many crappy decks from Strat lead where they pop the brief into ai and it spits out a deck and they’re calling it a day. Anyone else seeing this?

Who else has completely stopped watching all ads?

I worked briefly in a creative department for a small ad agency (US, major Midwest city). Afterwards I remained interested in all kinds of ads, partly to assess their creative content, appreciate the cleverness, humor, whatever of the professionals who created the content.

Now? I can’t watch anything. The specter of AI hangs over all of it. It looks creepy, soulless or just visually repulsive. Plus I’m always thinking about the cool creative people who have lost their jobs to some bs robot tool. Curious to know if others are also tuning out wholesale.

Paid creative manager needs Ad creative process / workflow tips

Upvotes

Hey guys, I’m a manager of paid creative and could use your best process doc templates and workflows for your ad creative process.

I’m at a startup and we’ve finally slowed down enough where I have a second to actually build a process. I have 3 freelance video editors, 2 freelance deisngers, 1 design lead that helps with approvals, and about 5 different partners that we work with for creative (we have too many that’s not the point of this post)

I’d love to see how others organize their workflows and ad creative plans. Everything here is a mess and I just can’t seem to find something that WORKS.

Any templates / processes / workflows / platforms you’re willing to share are welcome!

Retail media… now what ?

Curious what people have actually done here.

I’m a Senior Manager on the agency side and have been in retail media/ecommerce for a while. Amazon, Walmart, Target, etc. I like the strategy, digging into performance, figuring out what’s actually happening, understanding the platforms and solving problems.

What I’m increasingly realizing I don’t want is for the next step in my career to just be… more client management.

More decks. More meetings. More rounds of revisions because six people have six different opinions. More time figuring out how to present the work than actually doing the work.

I don’t necessarily want to leave retail media either. There’s a lot about it I genuinely like, and I’ve built up a pretty specialized skill set at this point.

So for people who were Senior Manager/Director-ish and moved away from the client service track, where did you go?

Brand side? Ecommerce? RMN? Product? Ad tech? Measurement? Strategy/ops? Something completely different?

Basically looking for career paths where retail media experience is valuable but being the person perpetually presenting decks to clients isn’t the main job.

Would love to hear from people who actually made the jump and what the transition was like.

I’ve been applying to omnicom agencies junior positions, but never hearing back. I’m seeing multiple reposts of these job openings that I applied like month ago.

What is going on rn???? Or am I just not selected for those roles and just getting ghosted?

Feel like I don’t even work in advertising anymore

account service veteran here.

Feel like my job isn’t even advertising anymore.

All I do each day is play with the enterprise ChatGPT and feed it information to flow into our project management software.

Wages have been stagnant. I haven’t gotten a raise in almost 2 years and I’m making just under $70k. Client expectations have completely changed, especially with delivery time and wanting things cheaper.

I just feel like a slave to the prompt. For so long I was being positioned and told thru feedback to own relationships and be more strategic. Now I’m just essentially just project managing things for huge ass clients mindlessly and not getting paid enough for the stress I deal with each day.

I really wish I could do something else, I don’t see a path for me doing that for the next 30+ years. I would go work at Costco or Sam’s Club if I could make what I make now.

Knowing when to apply?

Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’m curious to get your thoughts on what time of year is the best time to apply for jobs in our industry?

I’ve been told that generally applying at the very beginning of the year is better because of refreshed budgets across departments.

But I’m afraid that applying to close to the holidays could mean my application gets lost in the shuffle — so would like to know everyone’s thoughts/ experiences on when is the best time of year to to apply for the paid media department.

Hi, I’d love to work in ad industry as ad and with this job market, I can’t get anything junior nor internship. I heard a lot about VCU. Is it worth going to VCU for hiring/employment rate? I’ve seen a lot of VCU students getting hired.
What y’all think
Should I just do portfolio school like book180?

Brand comms strategy vs prstrategy

Hi!

Some context. I just got hired at a startup for as a creative lead however my role has somehow also blended into a content lead. I have an agency background.

Now the owner also has a corporate company and the resources are shared. Which means I work with the pr team of that corporate company for the same startup.

Because my role has also blended into content and since I just started I don’t want to be sticking out - I’ve been asked to create a communications strategy for the brand against some profiles that were benchmarked.

Can someone (kindly) explain what this means exactly? I’m also confused because when I confirmed that I would be handling the comms strategy (as advised) the PR guy said he got confused as usually the comms strategy comes under PR

I’m guessing in corporate comms strategy gets clubbed into PR? I replied that I would be confirming the content buckets pillars and messaging for the overall brand + handling social media but would not be handling PR.

Yes, I know it sounds insane that I’ll be handling content + design + social media management but I need to get through 4 months to settle down and establish.

Now for the brand communications strategy, is it basically seeing what the benchmarked data says and saying “ok, to fill in the gap or to match the standard, this is the content pillar (education, tech) and the style of writing that will go out on digital and social”?

Does publicis ask for proof of offer letters when leaving?

at publicis and one of my coworkers left. apart of the exit interview process they said publicis asked for proof of her new company’s offer letter and she blurred out comp + company name. has anyone ever heard of this / understand why? i don’t think that’s legal unless you comply with it

Is Advertising and Marketing that bad?

Is advertising that bad?

As bad as some people on this subject make it out to be...

I have just started my first job as a junior copywriter in a small social media design firm.

Copywriting, Creative Strategy, Performance Marketing really excite me a lot. I love researching about human mind, crafting compelling written documents and formulating strategies.

Is this field not good in the long run?

Will AI eat us?

What's our future?

Starting at Omnicom Next Week - Advice?

Been lurking in this subreddit for a while and wanted to post and see what advice some of you may have for me.

I have relevant paid media experience from working in startups and political media, but am pretty much brand new to the advertising world as I'm making a career change. So this is going to be a huge transition for me.

I'm joining as a prog manager for a major account with one of OMG's sub agencies and will be in the NYC office.

Any advice is welcome and positivity is appreciated, I know there is a lot of BS happening in the big ad companies, but hoping people can offer constructive advice! :)

before wasting money on UGC, do social listening and run ads to customer videos

Most people do this backwards. You decide you need UGC, go find creators, negotiate rates, write briefs, wait two weeks for content that may or may not convert. Meanwhile there's a pile of tagged content sitting in your notifications you've never opened.

If you have any following at all, your customers are already making this stuff. Unboxings, someone talking about a product they actually bought, random organic posts. A listening tool just puts it all in one place so you're not scrolling mentions by hand.

Then you ask. Two options:

Usage rights. Most people say yes for free if you frame it as them being the face of the brand.

Partnership ad access. You run the ad from their account, so it doesn't read like an ad.

Why this order: it's basically free, the content already exists, and a real paying customer converts better than a hired creator reading a script. It also tells you what to brief later, once you see which angle people keep hitting on their own.

Paid UGC still works. Just start with what you already have.

Philly Creative Shops

What are some Philly agencies a junior with a concluding internship should target and find connections at in Philly? RTOP seems like an obvious one, and is my first priority, but they canned a bunch of people earlier this year which doesn’t bode well for creative onboarding right now.

Omnicom Holiday Pay

Anyone have more clarity into this? I’m taking a personal day (coded as sick instead of PTO) the day before Labor Day. Per the handbook it seems like I wouldn’t be eligible for holiday pay for 9/4 and 9/7 — is that true?

The Dublin/Irish advertising scene

An ambitious student of strategy as a discipline here. I'm on somewhat of a mission trying to learn and learn about advertising as an industry. Specifically within that, I am keen to make a move into strategy. I'm based in Dublin, working in that realm, client side.

I'm well aware of all the challenges ahead - and have deliberately spent a lot of time in an effort to make sure it's not shiny object syndrome!

I'm confident. But the biggest thing I think I've heard/learned: the best way to get hired as a strategist is to know more strategists.

I'm looking to connect with Strats (or any other agency folk who I can learn something from) to chat further. Specifically, I've got a few consistent themes thrown at me, that I'd love to get your perspectives on.

Obviously, would equally love to chat to folk who've got this far and aren't in Dublin/Ireland. Please, help a guy out ? 😄

TIA

I don’t understand brand ambassadors

Hello people,

I arrived to an airport and saw this ad, pretty much Ronaldo being the ambassador of some vacuum cleaners. But then I thought to myself, does slapping Ronaldo next to a vacuum actually increases sales? What does Ronaldo have to do with a vacuum? Are Ronaldo fans now going to buy 5 more vacuums while Messi fans will stop cleaning their houses as a way of protesting?

PHd?

How does it compare ?
Team seems okay, and that’ll matter a lot.

Omni seems pretty rough. Not negotiating on nada. Lowest salary band and no 401k match.

Skip level seems great - says 2x per week is fine is fine for RTO. But that’s a verbal agreement during interviews, and could change any time.

But my question is about PHd. What’s the vibe?
