Discussion Weekly 'What are my chances?' Megathread

We've all been there. You're about to submit your package for OTS, but you want to know how you stack up. Should you relax? Should you throw it all away and start over?

Well, here's the place for you to ask strangers who have never sat on an OTS board what they think the board is going to think of your package. There are many variables to an 0TS package. If you want to get the best advice, you need to include as much information as possible, like degree information, GPA, AFOQT, PCSM (if applicable), leadership experience, relevant awards, etc. If you only provide your GPA or AFOQT scores, expect to be told "who knows."

There are a ton of variables that go into officer selection. Nobody here can really tell you your chances. We can guess, but that's about it. We've seen people with stellar scores get rejected and people with garbage scores get accepted. It all comes down to the needs of the Air Force and whatever the random colonel reviewing your package thinks. That being said, post your scores, help each other, and learn what you can do to improve package!

Question Graduation Days

Upvotes

Hi all, I was wondering what the Thursday/Friday of graduation looks like. Specifically the course of events on Thursday, how much time we have with family, what the day looks like, can we go off base with them, etc. Thanks!

Question AFOQT Block Counting

Post image

Corners are not counted as “touching” right? Only faces of the blocks are counted?

Barton’s fifth addition claims block 19 is touching 6 other blocks.

I count 4.

If you commission, can you go to a base you were previously enlisted at? Even if it’s in the same career field?

AFOQT

just finished taking my test , I’m just looking for some information as they never told me where I could find my scores and how long id be waiting. I took it on pearsonvue at a testing center location. Did anyone else find yourself to be super unprepared ? Not unprepared in the way that you didn’t know how to get to the answer just that it was extremely time consuming without a calculator , and you didn’t get to answer all of the questions specifically for math knowledge and arithmetic reasoning? I get it’s meant to be that way but I just felt extremely unprepared vs what I thought I was walking into even taking a plethora of practice test and timing myself and I’m kind of stressing those sections. But I feel pretty decent about everything else.

Question Am I too old for UPT?

Hey everyone,

Just trying to get a vibe from some people that have experience. I’m 29 right now and turning 30 soon. I have 9 years prior service enlisted in the USMC and ARNG. I’m about to take the AFOQT and TBAS and turn 30 shortly after that. If I can get highly competitive scores, I plan on immediately starting my PPL and at the same time starting to apply to units right away. As my hours increase I’ll update that into my applications, but I plan to apply right away. I only want to fly fighters, but I’ll apply anywhere in the country.

I know 33 is the actual cutoff to start training but it seems like some people suggest that some units often have such a long wait to get in UPT that they don’t even hire people past 30 or something.

Do I need to give up the dream? I feel like I have a good plan and I’ve worked so hard for this already, but I just can’t do anything about my age

Question Aircraft Maintenance Officers (21AX), what are your daily/weekly schedules like?

I’ll be applying for OTS next year and I’m leaning towards an aircraft maintenance role. I know it probably varies depending on aircraft needs and other factors, but generally speaking, what does the work week usually look like? TIA!

I'm trying to become an Officer in the reserves but the recruiter has yet to respond. Should I reach out to a recruiter in a different region?

There seems to be only one Air Force Officer Recruiter in Texas. She has yet to respond to any emails or texts or calls. What should I do?

FY 2026 OTS Guide Link

Original source can be located on the Air Force Accessions Center website. I simply typed up the document with various grammatical/punctual corrections (yes, grammar and punctuations are important for me.) P.S. if any of the information is incorrect or needs an update, please PM me. Thanks.

Question Am I ineligible due to past? (Opinions welcome, I understand no one knows for sure)

I am trying to join as a pilot and have a strong package(high test scores, high profile professional career, commercial pilot license, airplane owner, heavy aerospace experience, LOR from astronaut). That being said, I have two concerning issues in my past id like opinions on.

1). I have a gunshot wound to my left femur that resulted in a titanium rod being inserted into my left leg. I have full range of motion and civilian doctor has cleared me for all and every aspect of military life. Full recovery. Is the injury itself disqualifying despite the full recovery?

2). I was charged with 3 felonies when I was 19. All three were dismissed with no conditions as I was innocent. I also have been involved in 5 civil injunctions. Every single one was dismissed by the judge due to them holding no merit. To briefly explain:

Felony: ex girlfriend destroyed apartment in anger when i broke up with her, and then paid for repairs (unknowingly to me) with her grandmothers credit card. Grandma reported it as fraud, I was arrested. Sheriff did investigation and ex girlfriend admitted i had nothing to do with it. Case dismissed.

Injunctions: (side note: 99% of filed injunctions in state of florida are granted as a precaution after a young lady was killed years ago. Most are dismissed at initial hearing).

1: crazy neighbor beat his wife, i called the cops and he was arrested. He retaliated by attempting to file restraining order. Immediately dismissed.

2: man who shot me attempted to get restraining order and intimidated witnesses over text, judge immediately dismissed it at initial hearing.

3: 13 year old ran into my vehicle on an ATV, his mom was a local well known attorney and refused to pay for damage. I threatened litigation and she filed for a restraining order, immediately dismissed by judge.

4: ex girlfriend was mad i broke up with her and made unsubstantiated claims. Judge immediately dismissed it due to no evidence.

5: friend of ex girlfriend tries to make similar claims to help ex girlfriend. She claimed harassment on a date I was on an airplane. Completely fabricated. Immediately dismissed.

Final note: I have worked for NASA and been subject to a DOCI/homeland security SF-85. Clearance granted with no problem.

Help How can I improve verbals analogies for the Afoqt?

Hello all, I took my Afoqt last week and pass (yay) but I didn’t do as well as I would like; 65/41/61/51/19/82. As you can see, my verbal analogy score is the lowest and I would like to retake in order to aim for a higher score. I had spent so much time practice in Barron, trivium, and using ai to generate me tests to practice. Is there any other tips you can provide in order to aim me for my next test? Thank you!

Service Dress at OTS (SF)

I’m crossing over from AF to SF. I want to order the service dress but a few questions related to OTS.

  1. It says epaulet must be attached. Does this mean have the 2nd Lt shoulder rank (epaulet) attached prior to arrival?

  2. Do we get the individual gold bars and attach them to the cap and service dress prior to arrival?

  3. Do we have the officer braid sewn on prior to arrival?

Thanks! Any other info related to it would be helpful as well, thank you.

Looking to join. Taking AFOQT test soon. Any tips on the whole process? Thank you 🙏🏽

If there’s any tips for the process from experienced officers I am willing to learn. I tried enlisting 11 years ago but was denied at MEPS for having taken medication within the last 18 months for ADD and didn’t have anything going on at 24. They advised to show I’m willing to put in the work and have some solid achievements. 11 years later unmedicated and so much success through trials and tribulations here I am. I truly hope to have an opportunity to be accepted and show future recruits that you can do absolutely anything with the right mindset & worth ethic. Goodluck to everyone & hope you all get what you worked hard for💪🏽💪🏽

My husband is starting UPT soon and I’m wanting to get him a few small gifts before he starts. For those who recently went through, what are some things you bought throughout UPT that made your life easier? Study materials, lunch box, etc?

Strong Package

What is the biggest advice you would give to make your package stronger? For people selected, what is something you would do differently during submission? Were you surprised or confident when you got selected? I’m not trying to copy anyone’s path by any means. I’m just trying to gauge where i’m at currently. I’m applying for the next cycle.

Question AFOQT voucher?

I applied for a voucher to take my AFOQT on the 10th of september and I haven’t received an email or heard from anyone yet. I know the test is due by the 24th so i’m a little worried. When should I expect the voucher to come in?

Question Commission Applo

I am active duty, E3, currently in tech school and moving to my first duty station in November. My enlisted contract says I can apply for ots after one year in service. I read somewhere that I also have to satisfy one year on station before applying for ots. Is this true? I am wondering when I should start putting my ots package together.

Question Pilot Interview advice

I will be attending my first interview for an ANG unit soon for a pilot slot. I have interviewed prior with a AFR unit, and wanted to see if there’s any difference with the questions they ask? With the prior interview it was very personable, and I tried to tie my answers in with core values of the service without forcing it. I have my bottle of whiskey at the ready, and am really looking forward to this opportunity!
