No see, for CEO’s thinking about work all the time, even when they’re not working, counts as work and “building the empire,”. Etc etc. For the rest of us, doing the exact same damn thing (because almost all jobs are stressful and almost all of us carry those stresses with us) doesn’t count. Even when our off-time is invaded by managerial BS meant to squeeze that extra drop out. because reasons.

My boss asked me how soon I could get back to work because I'm the only engineer of his office that can do inspections at certain locations
While I was at the ER with my near-dead father. That as well as losing 50 hours of vacation because I moved my vacation date a week forward for the sake of a project, thus it rolled over to the next year (I thought my hiring date was December but it was actually end of November).
My company loyalty is currently 0. They've had every chance to do something for me but it's just take-take-take. At this point I just charge my time like a contractor (eight hours minimum a day) and if I need time off I don't request it anymore I just say I'm not coming in.
I'm treated like I'm so essential but like shit, so at this point I just act like someone that can't be fired but doesn't care about being a model employee anymore. I do my job but nothing extra anymore.

My experience being in poverty was working 80 hours a week (for a church, of course), getting paid just above minimum wage for only 40 of those hours (the rest were “volunteer”), and being told that God will provide for me. I was doing physically exhausting work, often out in the New Mexico sun. Meanwhile God must have been providing for my boss, because he “worked” four days a week and lived in a much nicer house than I ever have in my entire life, even though now I’m making close to 200k doing IT work. The cars he owned were much nicer than anything I’ve ever owned as well. I never got public assistance, but that’s only because this church treated welfare like stealing. I can tell you with certainty that these people believe that there is a hierarchy that naturally exists, and those at the bottom belong at the bottom, and those on top belong on top, and nobody should question it.

Let's see, there are many wealthy people that are given subsidies and tax breaks which are basically wealth transfers from the middle class. A good number of them just wait for their checks to come in. They never produced anything, they do not currently produce anything, they just live off generational wealth.
And a significant proportion of the population seems to think this is perfectly fine, but assistance to the tune of a few hundred dollars a week to someone in need is anathema to them.

Exactly like, ive met people living on government assistance. They DO NOT enjoy it. If they could get a well paying job and make way more money they would immediately but the job market is dogshit right now. The assistance they get is only enough to get by, and sometimes not even enough. One health crisis, one problem and they're done for. These people often have to rely on mutual aid spaces along with assistance and even then they're constantly on thin ice.
People want stability. People want to be able to buy shit. Almost no one like to be unemployed and living off assistance

Yeah but over that, I understand someone who is working every day can have no empathy for someone living on social assistance, but the kids didn’t chooses their parents. Its not a perfect system but cutting all help is just going to make it impossible for people to move from a poor class to another. They need a house and food, how is it possible to have a future if you are living all your childhood without the basic minimum. I suspects people being against social security being in fact in favor of creating a society in which the upper class stay at the top no matter what and in which the poor stay poor forever. Its easier to get attention and vote while bashing on people then say ou out loud:‘I want a country in which all my children and grands children can stay on the top and untouchable no matter what, because I am rich and even if my descendants are pure incompetents asshole i want them to stay at the top and even become president because they will have money!’

I find it weird that they always insist on this absurd straw man that the idea is to take money from the average "hard working American" and not the 0.1% CEOs (much less true-parasite rich shareholders) and give it to someone who is perfectly 100% capable of getting a good enough job and just chooses not to to be "lazy", but they could end it literally tomorrow by just getting one of those countless jobs "just there" for them with no barrier at all. This is such a hideous caricature of the complexities of reality, and yet they treat it like it's absolutely the truth. It's not "take from the middle 50% to give it to the poorest 10%" it's "why the fuck is so much of the nation's wealth allowed to be so outsizedly concentrated in so few hands that a) people can't get medical care b) politics is massively distorted to favor that tiny class at the expense of ... yes ... the 'average' person they claim to champion?"

My state has given, so far, $540ish million dollars in tax credits to data centers, recent tax breaks to the wealthy, and we now have a billion dollar deficit for the first time (we have a balanced budget mandated in our constitution). They've already cut education and nearly all benefits, and this will just encourage them to cut more before they EVER raise taxes on the wealthy again.
Long story short-- fuck Steve Harvey and his trite, pithy bullshit. I don't even know if he's said this, but it's in line with nearly everything else I've heard him say.

I know this might be a controversial option, but I think everyone deserves to afford food, shelter, education and medical care, no matter how much or little they work.

I know that practically everyone commenting on this post already knows this. But when I worked for minimum wage, $7.25, tax season was like Christmas. Took all of 15 minutes to file my taxes; just upload my w-2 and spam the "No" button, and boom, $1,000 direct deposit. The people living at or near the poverty line are paying very little in taxes over the course of a year. They have to pay sales taxes, and they have to either pay their own property taxes or the property taxes of their landlord (plus the landlord's cut). Lower-middle class folks have a more complicated tax filing situation, and they probably pay a little too much, but it's far from financially crippling (I still usually get a refund, except for the year that I got married, because my wife forgot to add my income to her ACA health insurance.)
The people at the top have a wildly-complicated tax filing process, and they want it that way. The absurd complexity makes it easy for them to build and maintain loopholes that allow them to get out of paying for their fair share of taxes to the country that made them rich. The middle class pays the price, the rich people buy ads and politicians, and voila. We're all fighting with each other instead of uniting to take what was stolen from us. Rinse and repeat.
