I also have a soft spot for artisanal, hand crafted farm to table slop. Like if you deliver something truly awful, but I know you gave it your all but you just have absolutely no talent whatsoever I'm still gonna give you kudos for having passion and trying to give it your best.

Why does AI art look so filthy? I wonder if it’s a subsurface scattering effect for greater realism in skin texture, and then it repeated to the extent that it looks straight up dirty (kind of like how AI images were all piss yellow for a while because of the Ghibli filter)
It's over-texturing and excessive detailing. Usually artists don't do it, they try to show texture from big forms to smaller accents to create nice, balanced composition. With this AI style, it is very easy to be overwhelmed by the clutter.
It's basically this(but applied to different styles). I would say over-cluttering can look okay when it's on small scale, but people often use AI for complex, heavy-detailed backgrounds, and visually it ends up being overwhelming
Detail everywhere. Noisy as fuck. When I make a painting in an impressionistic style, I focus on detail in places I want you to look, the rest is more loose. AI makes everything uniform, from detail distribution to paint strokes. It adds detail everywhere, giving it a weirdly unnatural “too perfect” look. And AI also tends to make things dark, like coffee has spilled on it. It does color and contrast in a way I’d describe as… sickening? I don’t know how else to phrase it. Disgusting? It just always looks gross, literally. Like you said, filthy.
My first thought in looking at it is that the book is a parody of shitty AI books, and having the author's image and ridiculous name on it is just part of the joke, but maybe I'm wrong.

Its like The Room. Objectively its a terrible movie, but the fact that its a passion project is what gives it its charm. Everyone involved put effort into its production and it shows, even if it comes out unintentionally funny rather than serious.
It definitely sounds like the result of a prompt like “A children’s book title that suggests a fun otherworldly experience as seen from the viewpoint of a young impoverished child”.

This style of AI where they try to make things more detailed but it's just adding a bunch of weird mottled patterns on top of everything is my least favorite AI tell. So obnoxious.

I would still examine the book first for errors. Then recommend to get a proper publisher when necessary. It’s only a temporary visual, but NOT the visual.
Use the right tool for the right job is a saying for a reason. If you use AI as a proofreading tool then you’re using it correctly, if you use it to write the whole damn book you’re not using it correctly.
Honestly this one actually makes me sad. It's sad he thinks he can't do something himself and feels like he needs a generator to do his dreams for him.

Also, it sounds like a testimonial about the book, but it's placed as though it's a blurb describing the plot.
