I was having dinner with a friend after the 2024 election. We were lamenting what happened and he sighed and said something like “oh well. I guess it won’t really affect people like us.” He figured the repercussions would land on immigrants, minorities, etc. and would bypass middle age white guys.
So many people had that “it won’t affect me” mindset. It’s really sad.

If you voted republican you get what you deserve. Don’t ask for pity, these are the reprocussion

I would absolutely have sympathy for someone who said, "I voted for Trump because I truly thought he was the best person for the country. But it took me feeling personal pain to see how mistaken I was. I can see now that Trump and all the Republican politicians who support him don't give a shit about people like me. They've converted me to be a Democrat."
But that's not the reality. The reality is they say things like this:
"These Trump policies are really hurting people like me. I'm not sure why he's doing this. I didn't vote for this "
Does that mean you'll be voting Democratic next time?
"Hell no. I'll never vote for them. They hate America. And if he ran again, I'd vote for him over any Democrat."

Not American, but I kinda experienced what you describe.
Back in 2016 I was in my late teen years and was the "anti woke libertarian" chud, and I thought that Trump will be great for America and EU as a bonus.
Ironically he indeed was somewhat good for EU and NATO by showing that we need to rely on ourselves and that USA can go a bit crazy. But he also is worshipped by Russian puppets like AFD, Le Pen, Orban, And many other smaller goblins.

Finally, Finally! Now I understand the "Felicia" reference. Thanks for the education I didn't know I needed.

They loaned the vcr during his first time. Now she has figured out how they will give up the whole house.

u/ArgumentKey3712 21h ago
They knew what they were voting for. Hate and ignorance was fine by them, they encouraged it, because they thought it would only affect ‘others’.
I am happy that every single POS that voted for a p file is struggling. They got what they voted for.

u/Reverend_Tommy 20h ago
This is Reddit. You can say "pedophile". Please quit using euphemisms. It minimizes what you're talking about.
6
u/ArgumentKey3712 20h ago
It doesn’t.
I don’t know what the rules here are. I know who he is. And hopefully you do as well. How I spell it is not the issue.
Focus on the issues.-1
u/Reverend_Tommy 20h ago
Yes, it does minimize it. Euphemisms by definition lessen the impact of a word. It also makes people wonder if you're doing it because you don't know how to spell and are too lazy to look it up.

They’re still spending and making money though. I work for an Ag dealership and the parts dept is still selling over a million dollars a month.
The farmers are still driving their $100k+ trucks and their wives are still driving $100k suburbans. They’re still going to gamble and hunt all winter. They’re doing ok. Better than most actually.
Trying to talk someone out of voting for Trump is moot since he won’t be running.

High-risk political bets often leave agricultural voters paying the price.

u/OceanBlueforYou 19h ago
I believe that they knew. The difference is the scale this time, and they're getting the bail-out money as slower and in smaller chunks than they're accustomed to
3
u/IllAd1421 19h ago
Shouldn’t be any taxpayer bailout money.
5
u/OceanBlueforYou 19h ago
Even in the best of times, farmers receive taxpayer subsidies. Government backed farm programs keep the farmers on the government teet.
Socialism is only good for big business and farmers

u/BarnacleGooseIsLoose 19h ago
The real timebomb is going to be meat processing. All it will take is one desperate farmer cutting a corner and the demand for meat will collapse.
6
u/Motor-Wish-6543 20h ago
As a liberal farmer, I'd like to add that not all farmers are Republican, even if we think that culturally. Farmers are as diverse a group as any other. The narrative of the maga farmer realizing they shot themselves in the foot is a marketable story, and even a usable vehicle for political change if you sell it right.

u/BarnacleGooseIsLoose 19h ago
I get that. Another unfortunate misconception brought about by the 51% is 100% environment we find ourselves living within.

u/Chunk3yM0nkey 19h ago
Truml at the very least pretended to give a fuck about them 😂

Hold on, I thought Felicia asked to borrow Smoky’s car? And then borrow a joint? And Smoky says she needs to borrow a job… “bye, Felicia.”
What is this VCR business?

Agriculture in America is the best functional example of communism in world history.
"Rain (money) on the scarecrow...bailout on the plow...this land fed a nation...this land made me proud...son, I'm sorry its just a memory for you now..."

As was always the case, their bigotry and hate was more important to them than common sense and self interest.
1/3 of almost any population will vote to hurt other people even if there is risk to themselves.
They refuse to recognize the threat to them, usually because they’re entitled and used to comfort and privilege.
When they experience the consequences of their choices they will often continue to blame anyone but themselves.
Recent examples include Brexit, and Russians supporting the invasion of Ukraine. Both experience the consequences of their choices and refuse responsibility.

u/CortexAndCurses 11h ago
My bigger issue isn’t the stupidity of the farmers that voted for Trump who are now hurting but the fear of a sell-off of private farms/land to corporate farming companies.
1
u/Strong-Hippo9043 🇺🇸 United States 20h ago
Sure .
Considering his first term he signed the 2018 Farm Bill and scrapped regulation passed in 2009 that claimed a simple drainage ditch, a dry creek bed, or a low spot in a field that collected rain could be classified as a federal waterway feature on a farm was and then said the farmer could not plow it, spray pesticides near it, build a fence across it, or dig a ditch without securing a federal permit for thousands of dollars.
So perhaps something like:
Felicia borrowed your VCR four years ago, returned it in better condition, bought you a new TV, and chased away the guy trying to take your stereo.
Then four years later you loan her the VCR again and she sells it.
You can call that a bad decision in hindsight, but pretending you were an idiot for trusting her ignores the entire reason you trusted her in the first place.

These people will crawl over broken glass to vorw Republican or even Trump again because the worst of the Republicans is 1000 time better than any democrat.

Maybe a better question would be to ask the farmers what their concerns were and why they felt he spoke to them.
Instead of insulting entire communities that feed the country. But by all means if it makes you feel morally superior to make fun of people on the internet about things you don’t really care to actually understand , go ahead you are far from alone or unique.

That’s probably what happened to all the dumbass ranchers and farmers in the voting booth too
Either they didn’t know what was coming if Trump got elected again because of willful ignorance, or they did know and didn’t think it would affect them personally.
They don’t deserve, and shouldn’t get, back pats for the dumbest decision of their lives.
1
u/Strong-Hippo9043 🇺🇸 United States 20h ago
Keep calling large groups of people dumbasses instead of caring about their concerns.
It’s been working super well.👍🏻
3
u/FnordRanger_5 20h ago
It’s not my job to help or coddle the stupid.
If you don’t want to be called stupid, the solution is simple, stop doing stupid things.
And just a reminder, this is the ‘fuck your feelings’ crowd you’re defending here.
-1
u/Strong-Hippo9043 🇺🇸 United States 20h ago
The fact that you have no issue with labeling and denigrating an entire group of people and an entire industry while in no way understanding what their issues were shows how dumb, lazy and morally repugnant the left has become. You can blame Trump and MAGA and say they started it and that can even be true . It doesn’t change that ya ll all look the same now.

u/ASC4MWTP 15h ago
Might I remind you of 40 years of Rush Limbaugh? Daily assaults, ridicule and name-calling on anyone even leaning left. And all the republicans loved, praised and encouraged him.

Thank you for beautifully illustrating my point

Nice attempt at a cope. Did the actual meaning of that reference go clear over your head, or did you duck?

And who’s screwing them now?
Literally, the most obvious conman in human history.

u/potsac 21h ago
What were their concerns and why they felt like he spoke to them?
-2
u/Strong-Hippo9043 🇺🇸 United States 20h ago
I don’t do other people thinking for them. If you don’t know then take some time and research it. It’s the least a person can do before standing against someone is to find out what the other person is standing for.
5
u/BarnacleGooseIsLoose 20h ago
Thats a two way street. Its not an acceptable excuse to claim that they live in the middle of nowhere in the internet age.
1
u/Strong-Hippo9043 🇺🇸 United States 20h ago
What are you talking about? They know their reasons. I’m sure you could to if you chose to read up on it 👍🏻

u/BarnacleGooseIsLoose 20h ago
I'm too busy with trying to protect my neighborhood from kidnappers. Too busy trying to find a new healthcare plan so my wife doesn't lose her coverage following a brutal battle with cancer.
You seem to have a strategy. If you want to do that research, and share it with me, I'd be happy to share what I learn about healthcare coverage post - January 1st when the BBB provisions go into effect. We can collaborate and share - like Communists.
1
u/Strong-Hippo9043 🇺🇸 United States 20h ago
My sister is in the same boat. Finding an affordable policy is impossible.
We don’t disagree at all on that.
2
u/BarnacleGooseIsLoose 20h ago
It's mind-boggling how big the changes are - and the costs! Add to that, at least in my state, HMOs are dropping marketplace plans left and right. I can't have what we had, which was already quite expensive, and now we can't find a way to keep her oncologists and other doctors.
Tea partiers lost their minds when they couldn't keep their doctors during the initial ACA rollout, but I haven't heard a peep this time around- at least not yet.
2
u/Strong-Hippo9043 🇺🇸 United States 20h ago
I remember when there were PPOs on the marketplace. Those are long gone. The republicans dismantled it and now no one is happy. Which is historically how republicans like it .
2
u/BarnacleGooseIsLoose 20h ago
Yep. Me, too.
They have a plan, though. It's coming in two weeks. Going to be the best plan. Can't wait. /s

Okay, I'll bite. What is a better analogy that describes the situation between farmers and the man?

I would very much like to see more of our current issues expressed as comparisons to the hit movie Friday (1995), starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. There's potential here.
