My girlfriend’s one year anniversary is coming up. (Ampuversary). Should I acknowledge it with a card or something, letting her know how strong she’s been, or is it better to just ignore it?

I met with my ankle surgeon today and we both agree that amputation would be our next surgical step. She thinks the pain is nerve related and wants to try a form of nerve stimulation first. I meet with the pain clinic next week, but I little hope of this working. But I was wondering if anyone else had experience with it pre or post amp

There's not many historical hikes in the USA, even fewer on the west coast (I envy my English relations, a walk around the neighbourhood can take you past 1,000 year old landmarks), but here's one just west of where I live.

Hey my dad had an elevator accident 10 years ago and lost his leg and for the past year+ maybe i knew something wrong well it always was but he can’t barely get the energy to shower or eat or anything and he is just not himself at all

I been trying and searching what can do to help him his deep in pain from his leg

His left leg was cut off above the knee like in his thigh and he is very dependent on lyrica idk for how long i found out just now

I been trying to search maybe peptides that may try to help with his pain im not sure too much i used bpc 157 and tb500 for a shoulder pain i had where doctor had no clue of cause and said it looks normal

It probably wont help but l will try it already ordered for both my parents and also thinking of ara 290

Other then that i really have no clue what else cause i think first need to try help with the pain and then somehow get him off the meds slowly

pretty much all of us can very easily identify if someone in public is talking about us to their buddy or whoever they’re with, right? it’s very obvious. the tap on their friend’s shoulder, the glancing back at you, the whispering, the not-so-subtle motioning to look at you, their eyes immediately shifting to your amputation, the laughing, etc. as someone who had severe social anxiety and hated being “noticed” even before my surgery, dealing with being pointed out & talked about in public REALLY gets to me. i know it shouldn’t, but that’s easier said than done. what makes it worse is that after i notice people talking about me, & my anxiety increases tremendously, i will say something to whoever i am with (husband, friend, parent, sibling) & every single one of them completely invalidates me. they’ll say things like “you don’t know if they were actually talking about you” or “the world doesn’t revolve around you, people probably don’t even notice your amputation” or “your anxiety is making you perceive things wrong”. could i be wrong some of the time & someone that i thought was pointing me out/talking about me/laughing at me actually wasn’t? i’m sure i am!!! but 98% of the time, i know im not wrong, and i know this because not only is these people’s behavior/actions glaringly obvious, but because i deal with this literally every. single. day. every time i go to the store or out in public, i get whispers & stares. so i know the signs all too well. i hate it. it makes me want to crawl into a hole and never come out. but it would make it easier if family/friends didn’t invalidate my experience, and make me feel like i’m crazy. just a little bit of support in the moment would make all the difference.

I’ve struggled with PHN (post herpetic neuralgia) chronic pain for nearly 20 years. I’ve enquired about potential amputation for years now. Luckily (eye roll), it mostly affects my non dominant hand/arm. I’m curious if anyone has had this experience in their amputation.

I’ve been told by doctors that it’s not a reasonable request, because it may not work at all, or it may get worse. All I find when I search online is medical articles. I’m curious to hear from an actual person who has had an amputation due to similar conditions (crps, phn, etc)

I’m hoping to push for it, as it’s my last resort. The pain is unmanageable. I’m almost at the peak meds allowed.

no matter what mode, the hand can only open and close, however each mode changes how it closes. the only thing you can do is open and close so obviously there’s not many ways you can control the fingers in different ways. The hand closes into any of the presets chosen

So when you close the hand while you’re in point mode the hand just automatically closes the other fingers except the pointer finger like it does it all on its own you don’t rly do anything you know what I mean

To change the mode you just open the hand all the way, stop and then try to open it more, it will beep and that’s it now when u close it, it’ll close differently

Inside the prosthetic where you put the nub, there are two sensors that control opening and closing, they work by measuring electricity in ur stump. The sensors can detect the electrical signals that come from a muscle during contraction. So you just have to contract a muscle where the sensor is and it will send a signal to the hand and tell it to move, since theres only 2 sensors you can rly only open and close the hand that’s all

So some of yall have seen my gore photos from a work accident I was in around January, accident led to a above elbow amputation on my left arm, I have a body powered prosthetic with a moving elbow and a hook terminal device, im hopeing to have another appointment with my prosthetic team soon and im thinking about a myoelectric prosthetic. Whats everyone's opinions on the matter and whats yalls experience. Also a workmans comp case fyi.

To sock or not to sock. That’s the question! Ok I know it’s not important but I think it’s a funny subject lol

Personally, I will wear a normal sock on my normal foot, and then I will wear a trainer sock on my prosthetic foot that matches in colour. I’m very particular though. It has to cover the pink of the foot shell, and it must not look loose of flappy. I personally hate the look of an above ankle sock hanging loose around a pylon and idk why 😂

If I don’t have a trainer sock that matches in colour to the sock in wearing on my meat leg, I’ll use a regular matching sock and fold down the top of the sock so it tucks into the foot shell, demonstrated in the last picture. (also don’t worry my leg was fine I was just taking a picture of the components).

I’m missing my left arm below the elbow and I’ve never had anything like a manicure -I always thought a mani-pedi was just a man getting a pedicure— before but I’ve always wondered if we get half off, like we should right…? Like now that I’m rly thinking abt it making someone pay full price for only half the actual service is dumb right? Just tell me how to feel about this I don’t want to use to much brain power on this

I’m a new amputee (8 days AKA) and I have some pretty intense phantom sensations. Luckily none of these sensations have turned into phantom pain yet but I know that they might in the future.

My phantom sensation feels like my missing knee, calf, and foot are all folded beneath me and are tingling really intensely as if they are asleep and I can’t move them. I can also flex portions of my thigh stump to make it feel as though I’m “swinging” my calf and foot back and forth the way you would if you were sitting on the edge of a very high chair but instead of forward and back it is side to side. But even then the calf and foot still feel very tingly as if they are asleep. Other times I feel the sensation of drips of water running down my missing leg.

What kids of phantom sensations do you have? Are they always the same sensation or do they change based on position, age of amputation, activity, etc.? I’m just trying to see where I fit into the whole phantom sensation thing and perhaps understand it a bit better.

Hubby just got a new prosthetic leg, and his old one is in good condition. Feels like a waste to put such an expensive piece of equipment in the garbage, so I’m wondering if any of you know what we could do with it, I.e. donating it or something.

I got a new socket 2 months ago and within the same week I lost my job. While I've been off I just been using my transport chair to get around and occasionally will wear my leg if I have a doctor's appointment or want to go to trader joes.

The problem is that its so tight and uncomfortable. I start to have a panic attack because it squeezes my leg so tight that I feel like I have a Charlie horse. I've lost about 10 lbs since I've been off so it's not from weight gain.

Should I have my old socket put back on or have any of you been through this and have better advice? I have an appointment with my leg lady on Wednesday. I've only been an amputee since June of last year so I'm not well seasoned, yet.

I wear my shrinker at night.

Please help. Any advice is appreciated.

I m an finger amputee i had an accident a few years ago which cost me 2 fingers in my left hand and im really insecure abt it which affects my self confidence and self esteem alot i find it quite difficult to talk w women ,and also boys around my age are all going on dates and having fun which makes me hate my life more , i stress abt it alot , i don't wanna die alone , how can i talk w women without being insecure abt my finger at all? Plz help

My partner has had most of their fingers amputated and we are trying to come up with some ideas for engagement jewelry. There’s a chance that an upcoming surgery may make it so they can to wear a ring on what’s left of their left ring finger, but they were also hoping to wear a prosthetic there which would interfere with the ring. Any creative ideas or examples of engagement jewelry or anyone in a similar situation?
