Discussion New ‘Unverified developer apps’ setting appeared in Developer Options on my Redmi Note 11 — is Google’s APK policy already rolling out?

I have this too on my Pixel 6 with Android 17. I wonder when and how it got added, because this device stopped getting updates some time ago...

In English it says "Apps from unverified developers" in the preference of the "developer options".

Can anyone please give me an example of an APK that would be blocked there? I want to test it out.

Isn't this "feature" the whole point, that it blocks APK files that weren't signed by something that Google approves?

Also, I wonder what happens if there is no Internet.

Nope, that's just randos freaking out for no reason. You can still load apks just that you need to turn on a developer option once to do that. Almost like a setting really

I meant without it being turned on. As I wrote above, I've noticed the preference myself, and I want to see what happens when I reach an APK that should be blocked as the preference is turned off right now.

BTW it's not "just need to turn on". You also need to wait 24 hours for that. That's the longest time I've ever seen to install anything anywhere, after the installer already finished downloading.

If you know you like installing apks just turn it on early,you probably dont install an app every 24-hourrs . It wont hurt you. Also, I think there are images of the situation you wanted to test online

What images? I asked about APK files. And why should users wait 24 hours for an app that's already downloaded to be installed? Even if it's just the first time.

Again: I want to see how it behaves when the preference is turned off.

Yh I said there are images online you can see how it behaves. Also I said users can turn in the option before they download the apk, just ahead of time. Like right now .

Where are the images? Maybe from there I can find details about the examples of APK files to see how it behaves.

And again: I don't want an explanation about how to still install APK files. I know this preference exists. I already said right in the beginning that I see it on my device. I just want to see how it behaves with "unverified" APK files, and also to see what happens if I don't have Internet connection, as it needs to communicate with Google's servers...
