Anyone here registered for the Android Developer Console with a previously terminated Play account?

Our Play developer account got terminated about a year and a half ago for "prior violations." Never got a straight answer on what that actually meant, best guess is it got linked to some other account somewhere. The app is boring internal stuff, a delivery fleet app our own drivers and partner shops use. We've just been handing out the APK from our own site since then and honestly it's been fine.

That obviously stops working once developer verification goes global. So the plan was to register with the Android Developer Console instead, since that's supposed to be the path for people distributing outside Play.

Except I can't find anywhere that says whether that's even allowed if you've been terminated from Play. The verification docs don't mention it, the ADC help pages don't mention it, and every time I search it just turns into results about Play Console bans, which isn't the same thing.

So has anyone actually tried this? Terminated on Play, then registered ADC. Did it go through, get rejected, or go through and then get pulled later?

There should be no reason that your app would be banned from ADC provided you submit ID proofs and your apps don't contain any malware that puts android devices at risk..just submit your IDs and try to register your apk on Android developer console and see what happens...all the best

Thanks! That’s what I’m hoping, but I’m mainly trying to find someone who has actually gone through ADC registration after having a Play account terminated. The concern isn’t really the app itself, it’s whether the previous Play termination affects eligibility for ADC.

See I have 2 apps which I developed for my personal use mainly and for close friends. I registered at ADC and there was no problem at ALL. But I never published in play console as I never needed to. I am like you only where I distribute my apk in close internal circles only...

Full distribution as an org wants a D-U-N-S and the legal entity behind it. That's the same identity that linked you the first time, so I'd expect that to decide it rather than any ADC-specific rule.

Hi u/Alert_Battle_4157! Your account status with individual app stores remains separate. Android developer verification will not override any existing restrictions on those platforms. Android will only restrict apps ecosystem-wide to prevent severe malware. Otherwise, you maintain the flexibility to choose the marketplaces that work best for you.

Meanwhile, feel free to DM us your appeal ID if you'd like us to check on the terminated play console account for you. Hope this helps!
