Start your MyAnimeList when you begin, because doing a 12-year backfill at 25 is absolute torture.

Don't be like me.

I started watching anime and reading manga when I was 13. Back then, tracking didn't cross my mind—I just binge-watched whatever I could find on random streaming sites, pirate platforms, and scans. Now I’m 25, finally made a MyAnimeList, and I am in tracking purgatory.
Trying to reconstruct 12 years of media consumption from memory is wild. I’m sitting here trying to remember hundreds of titles across literally every genre: Obscure late-night mystery and thriller plots that only exist in faint memories. Generic action/battle-shounen titles that blur together. Random ecchi/harem trash and rom-coms watched at 2 AM. Countless shoujo manga read across forgotten scanlation sites

Half the time I don't remember names, only random plot fragments: *"What was that 12-episode supernatural show with the blue-haired girl and the talking sword?"* or *"What was that slice-of-life where they were all in an after-school club?"*

Scrolling through seasonal charts from 2014 to 2018 looking for familiar key visuals feels like archeology.
If you are new to anime or manga, create a MAL or AniList today.

Track as you go. Do not wait until you have a decade-long backlog of forgotten titles to dig through.

Has anyone else had to do a massive multi-year backfill? What was the best method you found to hunt down the titles you forgot the names of?

Third Party Apps Sync issues(?)

Hi uh I started shifting my Manga and Manhwa reading to Comix and linked my Anilist to the website. I really like how it tracks your progress live, but it begun adding everything I'm reading to my list, and I'd rather keep short comics/doujins uncatagorized. Is there a way to toggle the things anilist logs from the site?

Hi, I am looking for like-minded anime & manga fans

Lowkey chilling.

Hi everyone,

I am a recent anime and manga fan, starting out after the Covid pandemic ended. I actually entered Anilist in late 2024, so my earliest records may not be as accurate as they appear,

  • My first anime was Dragon Ball Super. I lowkey enjoyed it without even knowing what anime was at the time, so i am waiting for the remake with a lot of anticipation,
  • If I had to pick out my first anime at the time, it would be either Naruto, One Piece or SAO; I'm not that sure ??.
  1. My favourite ongoing series is One Piece; I see it as peak fiction. I listed my other favourite series on my profile; you can check them out later.
  2. My favourite genres are Fantasy, with action being a close second.
  3. I always enjoy a great written story; that's why my favourite character is Makoto Misumi (from Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy). I love well-written protagonists who navigate complex, morally grey situations.
  4. Also, I do not limit myself to the clean and simple tropes; I enjoy reading & watching a diverse set of opinions laid out in your works

Here's my profile https://anilist.co/user/Arc05/

Looking forward to meeting you guys!

Manga/Manwha sites that connect with anilist

Are there any Manga/Manwha sites that connect directly with anilist? I know that there are some for animes in which you just create the account using anilist and then the website does the job of putting your progress on anilist on its own, but are there any site similar for reading manga/manwha?

Website Related Questions How do i have a log for an entire show?

Bad title wording but like i see people have a log for over a week be updated and say “episode 1-50” or whatever. But mine always updates and goes from “watched episode 1-7” to the next day “watched episode 8” instead of saying “watched episode 1-8”

Is there any way to do this?

Adding Private Submissions

I’ve been wanting to transfer to Anilist from suwayomi, an offline tracker, for so long because it was difficult to access on different devices, but I can’t. Suwayomi has a much larger library since its cross platform. On the other hand, I can’t find a better tracker than Anilist.
I suggest that users could create private media submissions on the website to help them track if it doesn’t follow the submission. The button could be in next to the settings, and it’s titled “add note.” Users should also be able to interact with the note in the same way as if it was a manga or manhwa (organized into folders, adding descriptions, reviewing, etc.)

Hi ! I'm new to Anilist and I'm looking for people with similar tastes

Post image
49 Upvotes

I used to write reviews and rate my anime in LibreOffice Writer (I'm bit old-school), but a friend recommended me Anilist and I love it !

So I'm looking for people with similar tastes or just nice people to follow and chat with !

I've been watching anime since I was little, and I watch everything in Japanese as it’s my mother language.

I started with ghiblis and sports anime. Recently, I tried "popular" animes (not much shounen) and I liked most of it !

My favourite genre is drama combined with any other, (I have a soft post for fantasy), my favorite format is films (especially drama-romance films like Disaster Trilogy, I want to eat your pancreas, the tunnel to summer, a silent voice...).

My favorite anime is Your Name (Did you know that 1 in 6 people in Japan saw it at the cinema? And 1 in 250 worldwide?)

My top 10 is : Your Name ; Attack on Titan ; Frieren ; I want to eat your pancreas ; Suzume ; Violet Evergarden ; Oshi no ko (I didn't read the manga so I don't know the ending, I'm really enjoying it rn) ; Takopi's Original Sin ; Cyberpunk edgerunners ; Vinland saga. (Special mention for Rascal does not dream of a dreaming girl)

My favorite character is Makinohara Shoko (From Aobuta – by the way, I’d recommend it; don’t judge by appearances)

My favorite composer is Evan Call (Composer of Violet Evergarden and Frieren – my two favourites when it comes to the soundtrack)

My favorite voice actor is Tsuda Kenjiro (best voice ever)

I also listen to J-pop (Ado, Yoasobi, Natori, Minami)

Here's my profile (Don't hesitate to read my notes, I love making them) https://anilist.co/user/8156269

Looking forward to meet your guys !

Qestion about Anilist integration and Nuvio

Howdy, guys. So, for reference, i use AIOMetadata with AL integration, as i consume a lot of anime.

What i noticed is that some animes on my "watching list" (despite having the metadata, poster, synopse, etc) dont get fully  recognized and by that, i dont get notifications on new episodes nor the Nuvio library updates them. In fact, if i navigate to the details page of the anime, the information on the episodes is "not available".

Did someone experienced something like this and got some work around this issue ?

Third Party Apps I made a free extension that adds a local OEL library to your AniList feed

Post image
4 Upvotes

I built this. It adds a local OEL Library card to your AniList feed: search MangaDex, add titles, track status + chapters, and it injects realistic "Read chapter X of Y" activity entries you can click to edit.

Everything stays in your browser... it never calls the AniList API and never touches your real account or lists.

Install: download the zip, unzip it, then Load unpacked in chrome://extensions (Developer mode).

Third Party Apps Kagami for iOS is here — AniList sync now on iPhone too!!

Thumbnail gallery
13 Upvotes

Hi r/anilist!

I posted here a while back about Kagami, my AniList-native Android tracker.

Good news — it's now available on iOS too, so you can use it on iPhone with the same direct AniList sync for status, scores, progress, and everything else.

Highlights since last time:

  • iOS launch, with the same core features as Android
  • Personal scores are now color-coded by tier (Bronze / Silver / Emerald / Diamond), so your list is easier to read at a glance
  • Seasonal browsing, character info, and upcoming episode tracking
  • Works offline with a local on-device database, then syncs in the background when a connection is available
  • MyAnimeList support is included too

I'd really love to hear what you think about it. And please send me as many feature requests, suggestions, or pieces of feedback as you can.

I want to keep improving Kagami and make it a genuinely great experience for everyone who loves anime and manga.

Android: Kagami: Anime & Manga Tracker - Apps on Google Play

Website Related Questions How do I add two manhwas to the manga list that aren't there?

Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing well. I'm trying to add two manhwas to the general manga list on the site, but I see that they're not currently accepting requests. Does anyone know how long this restriction will last? In case anyone is wondering which manhwas I want to add, or if a mod or someone with permissions can create the entries, I'm referring to "Teto x Egen" and "My Wife Waited for Me in the Wheat Fields."

Third Party Apps I created a feature-rich terminal-based anime watcher - Now with full English support! [LINUX / WINDOWS]

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

For a while, I have been developing doccli, a terminal-based application designed for watching anime. Until recently, the tool was built specifically for Polish users, featuring only Polish language support and regional sources.

As of today, v2.40.0 is officially released, bringing full English language support, an English installer, and English source compatibility, opening the project up to a global audience.

You can check out the source code, installation guides, and releases on the GitHub Repository.

Key Features

  • Anime Watch List & History: Keep track of what you are watching and resume right where you left off.
  • AniList Integration: Full account integration to auto-save your progress, display ratings, and two-way synchronize your list with AniList's "Plan to Watch" tab.
  • Quick Search & Randomizer: Fast search engine and an option to randomize anime from your list.
  • Offline Library: Full season downloading and auto-play capabilities.
  • Discord Rich Presence: Show custom statuses on your Discord profile while watching.
  • Additional Tools: Next/previous episode navigation, live source availability checking, new release notifications, and program statistics.
  • Built using Python, mpv, and yt-dlp.
  • Heavily inspired by projects like ani-cli, but expanded with local library management, media downloading, and deep AniList synchronization.
  • Windows Installer: Includes a dedicated automated installer (.exe) from the releases page that handles directory extraction, desktop/start menu shortcuts, environment PATH configuration, and dependency setup automatically.
  • Linux Support: Fully compatible and operational on Linux with a quick single-command installation script.

Third Party Apps My AniList extension just left "early access" after a year of slacking off — now stable on Chrome + Firefox

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A year ago, I made the mistake of tracking 30+ seasonal anime at once. Updating progress after every episode became a mess, so I started creating a rough Chrome popup just to make my own life easier — AniPortable was born out of my laziness, basically.

It stayed a side project for a long time with no updates, and the real turning point came when I binged way too much at once and got rate-limited by AniList's API. Staring at a broken popup mid-marathon made me rewrite the whole background script and add a debounced queue that batches edits together instead of hammering the API one click at a time.

Recently, I ported the extension to Firefox and gave make lot of UI tweaks to make everything look clean and polished. I added custom tab controls so we can now hide Anime or Manga if you only track one, added card freezing during mid-click edits so it won't teleport elsewhere anymore during updates, and built real error and loading states. So finally we can know what's going on if we hit the API rate limits or the API goes down, instead of just staring at a blank screen.

From there I kept chipping away at the small stuff that actually matters day-to-day: added a 4-card-per-row layout option for anyone with a bigger list than 3-per-row can comfortably show, some card animations so things glide into place instead of teleporting when you update progress or scores, and even swapped the browser's default scrollbar for a custom D-shaped edge handle so the popup looks consistent across browsers instead of clashing with whatever style Chrome or Firefox slaps on by default.

After squashing the last batch of silly bugs this week, it's finally at a point where I'm comfortable calling it done and stable on both browsers (at least I'm hoping so).

It's open source, and I'm currently working on a PWA port for mobile users, so stay tuned if you are interested!
