The dachshund breed has a remarkably high rate of hip and spine disorders, due to unsafe breeding practices focused on enhancing their body shape.
Likely this animal fell victim to this fate, but it makes me happy to see it seems to have loving owners that are willing to give it the love and support it deserves.
Give your dog all the love it deserves, and if you seek out a specific breed, make sure to source it from reputable breeders.

I’d be more worried thousands of wild horses that are planned to be slaughtered and the uncared for domesticated horses than the thoroughbreds that are receiving premiere care as a race horse.

Who’s stopping you? I encourage you to pursue all of your advocacy…. I’m only pointing out where change might be made more meaningfully.
Kentucky derby and use of equine mammals in hunting transport and sport is not likely to be quashed in the next centuries+, given history.
Advocating for re-stalling/housing of neglected horses or writing your congressperson against the slaughter of wild horses might go farther to advocate for these animals.
Maybe we should stop breeding dachshunds into medical problems as well. Not arguing with you.

Again not disagreeing with the ethicality of horse racing, I’m saying that there are better ways to save horses than those receiving premiere care and insurance until they are not a viable investment… such as the horses in jeopardy mentioned in my previous comment.
One doesn’t beget another. I agree with your stance on animal rights, but I think that racehorses insured for multi-millions have a better life than the neglected horses… and not so great as the wild horses…. Which are slated to be slaughtered in the US, for who know what justifiable reason.

That’s Mary Poopins! Emerald Downs horse track in Auburn, Washington has a Wiener Dog Day for people to bring their dogs and let them “race” between the horse races. Mary is a recurring guest and always steals the show!
