Getting an apple device and expecting the same freedom as Android, is like cutting off a leg and thinking you can run a marathon.

Literally nobody said they expected the same freedom. Hes asking for the apple alternatives

To be fair, google is restricting sideloading soon, as well as on device adb, so there won't be much of a difference

Should always go to the source, as this is incorrect. They even mention ADB side loading as not going away.

Google themselves stated side loading isn't going away many times over. * November 2025 https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2025/11/android-developer-verification-early.html?m=1 * March 2026 https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2026/03/android-developer-verification.html?m=1 * June 2026 https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2026/06/android-developer-verification.html?m=1

Specifically note * August 2026: Limited distribution accounts and the new Android Developer Console API will launch globally. We’ll also launch an advanced flow for installing apps from unverified developers, which includes security checkpoints to resist coercion scams, while allowing power users to maintain the ability to sideload apps from unverified developers.

  • If I want to modify or hack some apk and install it on my own device, do I have to verify? Apps installed using ADB won't require verification (source https://developer.android.com/developer-verification/guides/faq#sideload-apps)

  • Does this mean Android is becoming a closed system? No. Android remains an open ecosystem where you distribute through a variety of channels you choose and install software from multiple sources. Most users will download apps that are registered by verified developers, which means that most users won't see a change in their download experience at all. Developers can continue to distribute apps through their preferred channels, including Android app stores, direct website downloads, and more. As long as your apps are registered, your users' install experience will stay the same. Power users can choose to install apps from unverified developers after a one-time advanced flow setup launching August 2026. (Same source as above)

Further information goes on to clarify the changes don't limit anyone from installing anything they want.

It's doable but you limited in so many ways that it's not worth the effort half of the time.

The best setup is using safari with ublock origin lite and any anime site you like works like a charm

Web apps are the best if you are on iOS and they don't have a app available.

You can also use that method for stremio as long as you have a debrid service with it and use VLC or a alt video player.

Jellyfin works well. You can find server invites at r/JellyfinShares .

there are apps w/ comments & stuff, use vpn/dns for adblocking

They do need to be sideloaded just because they get taken down quickly
