Even before AI, I was smart enough to filter that crap. Kagi uses AI btw lol. They started at kagi.ai.

It lets you turn off all ai, they even have a non ai filter on their image search which works impressively. As long as I’m not forced to use the crap they can do what they want.

Kagi is, unfortunately, an AI lab masquerading as a search company. I say unfortunately because I really bought into their mission statement, subscribed for 4 months even though it was a bit expensive before leaving, disappointed.
At first, Kagi feels great, it's like Google circa 2015, it's generally great search and, while I raised an eyebrow at their AI stuff, I thought I could largely just ignore it. And then came the updates, and almost all of it was about improvements to their assistant, which is yet another integrated chatbot you can't really turn off, just ignore, with that annoying "quick summary" button on the UI. Then I took a look at the feedback forums, and people were asking for a simple killswitch like Firefox has, and both the CEO and his staff kept endlessly saying it's an impossible feature to implement, coming up with increasingly absurd reasons for why this was the case. It also didn't help a large chunk of the community kept saying people asking for a killswitch were luddites, activists, people that would be left behind or whathaveyou.
I noticed they implemented a bunch of bloat features beyond search no one asked for, all based on LLMs in one way or another, the one I personaly find most egregious being Kagi News, which is a newspage that's a general summarization of articles/posts from journalistic vehicles the CEO vehemently believes is capable of "unbiasing news".
Then I looked at the feedback forums again and saw they implemented image generation to their assistant. That's when I gave up. They're clearly just AI enthusiasts that want to play around with LLMs and happened to find an audience in providing search before pivoting to what they really want.

I turned off their ai summary when i started using their search engine and haven’t even thought of that or their ai assistant for six months?
Honestly no idea what your talking about. I have no ads, no seo heavy sites, the ability to block or rank any sites I choose, ai filters on site and image results and an engine which often works better than googles.
They’re not selling my data off to russian bot farms to manipulate me into hating my neighbours either, which is great.

You are basically funding development for an AI lab that refuses to be honest about it.
If that's fine by you, hey, all the more power to you, no shade.
But since they couldn't have the decency to provide a killswitch and then kept doubling down on AI features, I couldn't trust them to
a) not act like big tech with my data; if not now, in the future
b) to listen to their consummers
c) to follow their own mission statement: humanize the web1

What do you mean by ‘killswitch’? I’ve turned off all their AI functions from the start and haven’t seen them since then.
Could you provide any sources at all to back up what you are claiming?

The very first thing I did when I switched to Kagi was turn off all the AI features, it has a single switch in the settings that disables everything. I’m not sure what else you want in a killswitch? Even if you don’t do that, all the AI summary and assistant stuff requires you actively opt in to using it by pressing the button.
It also has the best anti-AI content filtering of all the search engines. Their SlopStop feature works well, and you pretty quickly curate a list of blocked domains too.
It’s easier than any other search engine to disable all the AI shit.

Yea, I meant in the backend. Not that they are forcing you to use it. I just meant that you are supporting a company that is using AI.
I only mentioned it because people seemed really concerned with AI use so it should be known that they also use it internally.

And, also: I don't need or want an AI overview for an email. Ever. My attention span can handle a few sentences.
And, more importantly, we misunderstand other people often enough without filtering through a computer 3rd party. Why would I want to invite more layers between myself and the message? It's like an entirely avoidable game of telephone.

That's why I like to open new links in separate tabs in the background. That way when I finish one article I can hop right into the next one. You still fall down the interesting rabbit hole but don't get as distracted.

I studied burial traditions before, wondering how many of my peers might be upset if [some rare wild situation occurred] and they needed their burial done in a specific way.
It's pretty complex and varies from culture to culture. One person's practice might be a practice that another person believes would keep them from peaceful rest/afterlife/etc. (burning, touching the body, not being chanted over for 48 hours)
