Congratulations to us for reaching 90.000 users! This is a significant milestone, which we want to celebrate by shaking up the sub. You might have noticed a few changes to the subreddit since April 14th, which culminate today in this post. Given the change in the broader IDM landscape, especially with the closure of WATMM, we want this subreddit to become a better place for the discussion of Aphex Twin, and in a lesser sense, IDM. The most important changes to the subreddit are as follows:
1. Mandatory Post Flair
Starting today, every new post needs to be categorized under one of ten flairs. These are:
Posts that are not flaired properly will be removed. We have done this to heighten the quality of the average posts on this subreddit.
2. Rule and moderation upgrade
We’ve updated the standard replies to rule-breaking posts and made them a bit more professional, with the reason for deletion explicitly stating the subreddit rule it might break. We’ve also added a new rule that complies with the new post flairs. The rules themselves might be updated at a later time to be made more straightforward.
3. Weekly ‘What are you listening to’ post
Since this April 14th, there is a weekly stickied post for music that is not directly related to Aphex Twin. Please feel free to engage in these discussions freely!
4. Sidebar links
We’ve added useful links to the sidebar to great resources related to Aphex Twin. This includes the tribute albums of this community (spearheaded by u/GreystarMusic), a full overview of RDJ’s discography in spreadsheet, and platforms where Aphex Twin can be listened to.
5. Upgraded user flair
The user flairs were a bit outdated, and some were redundant since around 2016, leaving blank spots. This has been fixed now, with new Aphex Twin related material having been added. If you think some more flairs should be added, please let us know in the comments!
6. Connections to the broader IDM Reddit community
We’ve added links to subreddits that are adjacent to r/aphextwin. We did a bit of research and though Subaru, Seinfeld and Red Letter Media are perhaps not that well suited to this music-based community, we did add links to r/boardsofcanada and r/autechre, to name a few, as interests.
Please let us know what you think of these changes, so we can continue to make this subreddit a great place for the Aphex Twin fandom!

Stumbled upon a what seems to be abandoned AFX website from 2002. Super cool stuff on there!!! I wanted to check this out but since the websites like super old there's nothing. I'm wondering if by some lord given miracle these could be saved.

So, there was talk around the time of Cheetahs release about how multiple people with the technical know-how had a theory that the Cassette that was released alongside the EP may have a hidden computer program on it.
I can't find the blog post that I initially read, as it seems to be taken down but it basically said that loading the cassette as if it were a program into a ZX Spectrum emulator, it seemed like there was some kind of decodeable data on it at some portion, such as some headers, but it wasn't easily done and the author theorized that there was probably more to it that they were missing/weren't doing correctly. I'm curious if anybody knows anything more about that in the almost 10 years since the release. The Cheetah "Sweet Talker" speech synthesizer the cover is modeled after was a hardware addon for the ZX Spectrum, and there are many, MANY references to the hardware in other tracks of his (the title for inkey$, peek off of the RDJ album and Carn Marth sample the sound of booting a program off a tape, Spectrum 48k beats, just as some examples off the top of my head). He even claims in an interview with PlayStation magazine in 1999 that he wrote a game for it himself, but who knows how true that is.
My main question is, does a program/game exist on the tape at all? Maybe the mass dubbing process caused any data, if it existed at all, to become unreadable in some fashion, a la how some Teletext data being read off of old VHS tapes in the space Closed Captioning would later exist in can become scrambled, due to the signal weakening as the recording is made? Or, maybe the data on it is meant for the sweet Talker module itself? I don't really know a ton about how loading stuff onto a Spectrum even works, that's a ways before my time, so I wouldn't even know where to begin in investigating myself. Just something I heard rumours of that I'd love to get a definitive answer to. Sorry for the long post as well lol

So yesterday, I went to the Crossroads Music Show in Indianapolis and after about 2 hours of looking, I found a few records that made the 2 hour drive worth it. The even better bit is that all 3 were 50% off because the guy told me he likes making new customers and he didn’t think many people would be interested in these Aphex records. Of course, I asked if he had any more.
The only other thing he had was a copy of the Selected Ambient Works Vol. II reissue, and since I already own that, this was it.
He did have a sealed copy of "Dead Cities" by The Future Sound of London that I almost bought, but $100 for that seemed a bit steep.

I am sure this has been asked here before but is there anywhere I can find a fully inclusive list of all of Richard’s releases in order? I’m certain I’ve heard 90% of it but I’m a completionist and like committing myself to these types of “challenges.”

Got my new drukqs CD, hopefully it will soothe me as much as the other CDs. This is my second double cd in my collection and my first double cd in my aphex twin collection... I set in next to all my other aphex CDs, really happy about it. I never listened to drukqs front to back but I've heard the all famous Avril 14th, QkThr and cocklover. So yeah, I'm excited. Not sure if it's a bootleg or not, but looks good to me, I'll add it to my dincogs later.
Shared the front back and art of the CD as well as a photo of my aphex CDs family

Sorry for the ominous post yesterday. Crazy how fuck loads of psychedelics makes everything seem normal for a change. Things will get better. My friends painted my tattoo :)

Just like with "Cock" yesterday, I compared the album version and the two-track promo version. Results are pretty much identical. The tracks have no arrangement differences, and are generally identical in composition.
The Argonaut Mix is louder and more aggressive, but to my ear this sounds more like a mastering difference than a mix difference.
There is one moment for a few seconds around 4:21 where it sounds like there's a second layer of percussion stripped away on the album mix. Blink and you'll miss it. (It's not particularly unique percussion in the context of the track, just it plays through more of the song.) There might also be some panning discrepancies for the echo-ey samples.
All-in-all, I now look at these two Drukqs promo tracks like the omc (ma2) versions of the Blackbox Life Recorder tracks or the Cr7e versions on the Digeridoo re-release. Same recording, different attack on the sound system. Hearing them back-to-back, it just sounds like I heard the same song twice.
Methodology: My primary method is lining the two tracks up in my DAW, then panning both stereo channels left for the first file, and both right for the other file. Then I play them simultaneously. If anything pops out of the stereo field, I make a note of the timestamp, go back and A/B the section.
