Keep getting “no network” errors on 2 AppleTVs
My AppleTV often briefly shows the error message “no network”, and sometimes completely loses the WiFi network. Other devices (phones etc) don’t seem to have any problem with the WiFi.
This happens with 2 ATVs, often in the early evening. (Especially between 6&7pm.
I want to know if it’s a fault on both ATVs or on my WiFi network. Any suggestions on how I might diagnose the fault?
Kit in question: Two Apple TV 4Ks (both the newest version I think) both running the latest OS update.
WiFi router is an Amplifi Alien, which has always been solid as a rock.

Hmm, if it’s both, then it might be the WiFi router. You should look at the logs what happens in that time, if it switches channels or so and the ATVs can’t pick up WiFi after that

This will always be a WiFi issue. Streaming is intensive and WiFi is subject to a crazy amount of interference. Also some routers have a QOS quality of service feature or beacon control that drop a device or two if their signal drops.

Try disabling automatic channel selection on your router if you haven't already, the evening congestion from neighbors must be brutal for your ATVs to drop out specifically then.

What Wi-Fi Band are you using? Microwave Ovens typically use the frequency 2.45GHz while working, and if you are on a 2.4GHz network, you could have issues at that time of day with interference. Especially if you are in a shared space, like an apartment or townhome/rowhome. The time between 6 & 7PM is likely when people are making dinner.
If you have a newer AppleTV 4k, you should be able to switch to the 5GHz band. Or if your Wi-Fi is setup to use 2.4 / 5 / 6GHz all combined, I'd separate the 2.4 to be on its own SSID, and combine the 5GHz / 6GHz. (or just split the 2.4 & 5GHz bands, call one "ThisIsMyWiFi-2.4" and the other "ThisIsMyWifi-5," or something along those lines. Then tell your Apple TVs to only connect to the Wi-Fi that is 5GHz.

I had this exact behavior for months and it drove me nuts. Finally gave up and upgraded my mesh from eero 6 to eero 7 and it went away.

unfortunately this is a well known long running seemingly random issue with no resolution. power cycling the ATV can help. i have several atvs and one just does this intermittently even when plugged in on LAN.

I have four ATVs from the HD version to the latest, two are Ethernet connected and two on Wi-Fi, never had these issues.

indeed - it only affects some devices/situations , v frustrating and apple has never got on top of it

If it’s more than one device than likely a common issue with the router or some sort of wifi interference. Make sure the latest firmware is on the router and the Apple TVs.
