I understand that drip costs a premium, but $2k for what is at its core a bare bones AR is wild.

First PCSL match — got humbled, learned a lot
Shot my first PCSL 2-gun match this weekend and finished second to last. 😂
It was honestly a pretty humbling experience. I’m coming into PCSL from shooting PRS/gas gun precision and DMR matches, where I’ve been able to place near the top of my division locally. PCSL was a completely different animal and exposed a lot of things I need to work on.
I had some ammo and magazine issues, my stage planning definitely needed work, and I managed to fail to engage targets on almost every stage. So there’s obviously a lot to clean up before the next one.
That being said, 76% of my shots were Alphas, and when I actually put together a clean run, I felt pretty good about how I was shooting and moving. The raw shooting wasn’t really what killed me. Stage execution, target accountability, and keeping everything running were much bigger problems.
One of my biggest equipment takeaways was that I don’t think the 13.9” 6.5 Grendel is going to see much more PCSL use. I never touched my 1-10x Vudu the entire match. I shot every stage through the offset dot. Between that and the recoil of Grendel, I’ve decided to simplify things and stick with an 11.5” 5.56 with a red dot for PCSL. It’s cheaper to practice with, softer shooting, and easier to stay on target with.
Second to last or not, I had an absolute blast. I learned a ton, and I’m looking forward to the next 2-gun match and coming back a little more locked in.

I think I’ve narrowed it down, appreciate any insight!
Narrowed it down to these two: DD M4A1 RIII 14.5” or BCM 11.5”
Sionics 12.5 is my third choice, but they’re OOS and haven’t gotten back to me. That’s not off the table though either.
I’m not necessarily trying to build a dedicated CQB gun, but I also don’t want something front-heavy or unwieldy. Setup will stay simple: micro red dot, light and flip up sights.
I’ll run it unsuppressed initially and add a can later. If I go 14.5, I’m thinking a K can to keep overall length/weight reasonable.
For those who have experience with both lengths, how noticeable is the difference in handling between 11.5 and 14.5?
I’m 6’3”, so I’m not overly concerned about the extra length, seems like stock will do the world for LOP, but perhaps hand placement/rail space could be a factor (?)
Looking for something durable, comfortable and fun at the range, while still being handy enough for home defense. Which would you choose and why?

Question About 5.56 Defensive Ammo And .223 vs. 5.56
I’m Not Sure If These Are Dumb Questions, So I Apologize In Advance Lol.
I’ve Been Looking For Some Personal/Home Defense Ammo In 5.56, But Most Of What I’m Finding That’s Widely Available Is FMJ. Am I Missing Something That Explains Why I’m Not Finding A Lot Of Options For Defensive 5.56 Ammunition?
And One Last Question For The People With ARs Chambered In 5.56: Do Y’all Actually Use 5.56 Ammo As Your Primary Ammo, Or Do You Usually Buy .223?
Just Trying To Learn And Figure Out What Makes The Most Sense For My Rifle.

Is anybody using a MI Combat handguard? Being in Europe I’m pretty much restricted to Brownells so any recommendations from there would be great. Budget is around €300. The MCMR looks like too much hassle to put on/take off. Thanks!

Fairly Blursed Thingy
Colt Lower
Random carryhandle upper I found in my parts bin.
FN SOCOM profile 14.5
Troy Alpha 13in with a *very professionally done* FSB cutout
Trijicon MRO
NGAL because it was too expensive to not put it on something dumb like this
Found a couple Troy handgaurds so figured I'd play a little bit with them. Cut two for FSBs, one with an A2 upper and the other with a flattop. Will do one more with no FSB cut as an actual rifle and not just yet another carry handle meme.
She shoots and groups well, will have to see how the LAD holds zero when I run it through some stuff later this month.
