Meta New Rule: No Generative AI
Hi everyone,
The mod team has been monitoring the topic for a while (and taking down posts that fall afoul of our self-promotion rule that emphasizes originality). It's also obvious that generative AI is severely unpopular in this community. This sub truthfully doesn't receive many obviously gen-AI submissions, but we'd like to explicitly clarify our guidance. To that point, we are instituting a new rule:
Posts and comments incorporating the use of generative AI, including but not limited to text and images, are not allowed.
Gen AI can be difficult to avoid and detect at times. We mean for this rule to act as guidance for sub participants while also being a tool for us as a community. This does not mean that we want you to spend your time squinting at every comment going "j'accuse! complete this captcha", because you have much better things to do with your life (and as mods we try to read most everything anyway).
Thank you,
your mod team (now with two newish members, tysm again everyone)

Imagined FAQ:
Q: What is generative AI?
A: To keep things simple, chances are, if it's a chatbot or some kind of agent/assistant/productivity tool being marketed to you in ads, it's gen AI. If it has diffusion or transformer in the name, it's probably gen AI.
Q: Why do you keep specifying "generative" AI?
A: Because this mod studied traditional machine learning (which is technically AI) at some point, and am aware that modern generative AI has very different applications and concerns. So I'm just being kind of pedantic.
Q: I'm not confident in my English, can I use a Large Language Model (LLM) to edit for me?
A: No. Please simply do your best. We would love to hear about your personal experience with being aro/ace, even if it's not perfect. I'll make a typo right here as encouramgnet.
Q: I used gen AI in posts/comments in the past. Am I in trouble?
A: No, we are not applying the rule retroactively.
Q: Can I talk about gen AI on the sub?
A: Yes, as long as it's relevant to the sub. For example, if you are receiving validation and support about being a-spec from a bot because you feel isolated, we would love to be able to support you as a community.
Q: What if I have to use gen AI for work/school?
A: I don't know why you'd ask, it's outside of our purview. But regardless, we ask that you respect our rules while you are here.
Q: Am I a bad person for using gen AI?
A: It's not in my official capacity to cast this kind of moral judgment on you. This post is just to tell you that any post or comment using it on this sub will be removed.
Q: I'VE SLIPPED ONE PAST YOU!! CHECKMATE!! IT WAS ME, JOHN AI ALL ALONG!
A: Okay, I mean, there is no foolproof way to detect AI usage, even if Anthropic has put watermarks into its text offerings now. We're just doing our best. So congrats?
Q: You are all luddites! You would have opposed the printing press!!
A: Hmm.

Discussion What??? Spoiler
(Spoiler due to potential triggering topic??)
So, they did say they were uneducated, and I probably shouldn't trust some random online and take what they say to be 100% true, but they said if I feel the way I feel towards fictional characters but struggle to real people, I'm either repressing my romantic attraction or there's something different with me and I may have a condition where I can't talk to people and care about them.
I do think that's also a stretch, though. Yes, I'm autistic, but I do care about people even if I don't know if I feel attraction 100%.
I've had multiple people over the span of a short time tell me I'm not truly aroace or that I have a condition that makes me unable to tell but I'm not aromantic because "you need to reproduce and mate and if your behavior goes against that, there's something wrong with you" or something, I dunno.

Discussion Am I just dumb or is this because I'm aroace?
so the thing is I can't really tell the difference between romantic mood and friendly mood. anytime I talk to someone I always have a hard time figuring out their intentions. and when someone makes a move on me it always makes me question myself if I gave them a wrong hint unintentionally

could Brawl Stars devs hint something aro-ace-y??
body text: While I don't really play the game, I just thought this in-game spray is just something fun to share with you, given that the character, Shade, is not only literally agender, but also these aren't their usual colours. have a nice day, a-specs and not only!!

Being aromantic and wanting to date? HELP
I am aroace. I have dated before finding out i was, but all my relationships were more to please the other person rather than me actually wanting to.
However, something i did love about dating is being able to be really physical affectionate with your partner (like kisses, hand holding, cuddling, that kind of stuff) — but when it comes to romance, i feel really uncomfortable.
Idk how to describe it, but when you start dating someone, they change the way they treat you, and me still treating them as friends was the reason why most of my relationships ended.
For a long time, i thought i didn't like dating at all and i just was very affectionate, but now I'm not so sure.
I met a friend two years ago and she is aroace as well, so we both feel comfortable being close without feelings involved. Having said that, i have found myself wanting to date her for the past months, which is really weird to me.
I know that some people with similar experiences label themselves as demi-romantic, but i don't think i fit the description that well.
I still don't have romantic feelings for her. I kind of just want to date her because she is so close to me. I want us to commit to each other if that makes sense? Not in the best-friends way since i think my feelings for her are deeper, while still staying in the platonic territory.
She is romantic-repulsive though so i would never ask her out. I'm just curious what other aromantic people think of this and if there are others who feel this way or if i am alone on this one xD

Vent Just need some aroace friends
I have come to terms with the fact that I am aroace, but alot of my friends around me can't seem to understand that I have no need or want for romantic and sexual relationships. I have a few asexual friends but they all have partners so it's hard to find someone who really gets me.
I work in a very queer friendly space, but I still get the occasional "Oh... You don't look aroace." It's hard not having anyone to talk to and I'm coming to Reddit as a last resort of sorts 😭 if there are even other online spaces for aroace people I'd love to know about them so I can join 💗

Discussion anyone else get uncomfortable when your friends and family talk about relationships or are affectionate with them?
my entire life, even before I found out I was aroace, I always got uncomfortable when people talked about or flirted with their partner in front of me. I like romance when it's fictional characters but when I see actual people being romantic my skin crawls. It's really weird cause it's like that even with youtubers/twitch streamers too, I just feel gross for some reason.
is this something you can alleviate at all or just something I'm stuck with?

Discussion Hello I’m a bit confused about my sexuality and would appreciate some advice
I am a 19 year old autistic woman whose never felt romantic feelings for anyone but I feel sexual feelings. I’m a bit confused I originally thought I was pan and that those feelings would come with time but they haven’t. At one point I thought I had a crush but after I confessed I realized I was feeling platonic love for this person not romantic love. All of my friends are in relationships or are wanting relationships and I feel left out.
Anyways I’m just confused like am I aro or just autistic?

Discussion I’m curious on the genders of aroace people. What is your gender
Mainly asking because I have never come across another transfem aroace girl. So I’m very curious to see the distribution of gender in this community

Vent I’ll miss my ex Spoiler
I’m 15, ex is 14. My ex had a big house, apparently a lot of friends from every grade now, and would always have sleepovers with large groups of people. However, they also couldn’t accept I was aroace for some reason and also couldn’t accept I’m trans. They said they forgot I wasn’t a cis dude, but they also said it was true that I was a girl still and think I’m not actually aroace, just too young to know or autistic.

Questioning (am i aro/ace/a-spec?) what's wrong with me?
Idk what I am but I thought this kind of place could help, my whole life I was entirely uninterested in relationships and unable to be attracted to others until a year ago when my friend and I got closer than friends. She's very kind to me and I reciprocate and we've been together for a year. But over the course of our relationship I can't stop feeling disgust about being seen as attractive.
I hate it. It's suffocating and I feel like I'm constantly being looked at by her even if we're physically apart and it's only felt this bad after she stayed closer to home over the past few months. We're both back in school and long distance now but she still makes comments about me.
If I was "normal" I'd be appreciative but instead I feel like I want to tear my skin off and I feel bad because this is how it's "supposed to be"? In a relationship there's supposed to be mutual attraction? And there is, but she doesn't feel terrible about me being attracted to her as I feel about her being attracted to me. I care about her a lot, I just can't stand it being reciprocated. I hate that it's like I'm making her feel bad just because she likes me. What's wrong with me? I've been feeling this way over the course of our relationship, it definitely feels like relationships aren't for me, but I don't want to hurt her. I feel bad for feeling bad.

Discussion A bit of a long post for a small question
I know that sexual arousal and sexual attraction are different things, asexual people are described as having little to no sexual attraction to other people, but they can still experience sexual arousal and decide to take care of that either by themself or with another person, thus an asexual person could have casual sex with someone without calling that person a sexual partner. I am an aromantic asexual person who takes care of my sexual arousal by myself, but I do experience an internal sense of desire for non physical romantic interaction despite feeling no romantic attraction to other people, I don't know if it is possible to take care of my romantic desires by myself, so I would prefer to experience romantic interaction with another person without calling that person a romantic partner, is that what a queer platonic relationship is?

Vent “You’ll meet a nice man someday” Why am I expected to??
I dunno. I’m 16, neurodivergent. My whole life, I’ve kinda gotten shit for not being able to distinguish romantic from platonic feelings, not feeling them in standard ways, constantly wanting to “date” everyone because I’d get attached, and not being able to have committed love for someone when it’s not platonic.
I broke up with my partner who kept saying I wasn’t really aromantic. My family expects me one day to have romantic feelings for men and be straight despite me finding women more appealing. When I said I don’t really feel love the typical way, they expect that I will one day and it’ll be to some perfect conservative guy.
Conservative men are the opposite of my type anyway. Usually homophobic, prejudiced men? Yuck!

a-spec looking for Help/Advice Please help me find a word to describe the relationship I have with my friend.
I have this friend I really really like but platonically. I love him, and I love the way he smells. It's so calming, and I think he's so beautiful, and when I look at him I feel warm and settled.
I want to be by him often, and talk to him. I want to share space with him, and sleep next to him, and hug, cuddle, and hold hands all the time
I want to know him!! I want to know him so well!! and I really like that he knows me, and I tell him about myself more than anyone else.
I don't want to kiss him, or have sex with him.
sometimes I think he's hot
also Idk how to explain this part but I don't think I like him romantically. I've had crushes before and it feels similar but not the same!!
I do want him to think I'm special, but I also think that's rooted in insecurity
I thought maybe other aroace-spec people would know a word for this or relate

a-spec looking for Help/Advice Is there a label for this? (READ BODY)
So, I'm pretty sure I'm aspec. I've been saying I'm demi aroace for a while, but im not 100% sure. I feel romantic attraction (albeit rarely), but I feel super uncomfortable with these feelings, and the thought of acting on them, an the thought of them being reciprocated. Is this something others go through? Is there a label for this???
