“All good things must come to an end” they say.
Our wonderful community leader, Vholecek, has dedicated the last seven years to building and caring for this sub. It’s a lot of work to maintain a subreddit, especially one focused on helping to connect artists with clients or patrons.
Vholecek has done an amazing job of upholding the sub’s integrity and focus, and the time has finally come for them to divert their own focus to new projects.
Let’s take a moment to thank them for everything and wish them well on their future endeavors!
Closing an old chapter means opening a new one.
I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself and my co-mod.
I’m Downtown_Mine! I’m co-owner of ArtCrit with my good friend Leighabbr. I’ve been an industry professional who has worked in animation and then games for more than two decades, and I now dedicate a portion of my spare time trying to both inspire people to keep creating art, and to ready the “next wave” of future working artists to find work.
Co-owner Leighabbr is a skilled traditional artist who focuses less on the industry side and more on the personal side of the arts. She proudly creates for the love of creation, and is an advocate for artists to do the same. She works to remind others to keep the humanity in their work, and to take time to express themselves and what they love rather than losing themselves to burnout in the grind to make money.
Together, we work hard to balance one another in our moderation styles, making sure we’re not too by the book or too lenient. We both believe that moderators are glorified janitors though. We curate and clean up the subreddits we moderate, and work to keep our communities safe and productive spaces.
Then, you all provide the rest, which is why we need your input now.
We’ve spent the last week primarily watching the sub from a moderator’s view. Seeing what gets removed and what stays up. What the automod catches and what it doesn’t.
What changes would you all like to see in the sub? What future would you like to see for this sub? Is there anything we can do to make it easier for artists to connect with buyers, and buyers to connect with artists?
How can we improve your experience here?
