Looking at their neighbours, only Bosniaks converted to Islam, and that's most likely because they already believed on some different variation of Christianity that made it easier for them to convert to Islam. Albanians however have been mostly Catholic historically speaking. How did they end up converting to Islam in masses, and why did their neighbours not follow them in this decision. Is it because Albanians are generally more open minded to new ideas, or were they not as religious in the first place?

hello my ancestors have immigrated from various places in balkans to turkey and when I look at where they were born one of them has this place called malravuca as their birthplace and I couldn't find anything related to it only clues are that it is in/around north Macedonia since her child was born in skopje and her daughter in law was born in veles and then later they immigrated to greece before coming to turkey and as far as I know she has albanian roots does anyone have any idea where this place could be? ps she was born in 1859 and might even be christian idk if this helps tho

Hi everyone! My and my friends are planning to do this 10 days roadtrip and I’d really appreciate some opinions to get a general idea on whether this itinerary seems realistic and enjoyable.

I’m arriving (and leaving) from Podgorica and will drive straight to Plužine for the first night. Then:

• Plužine → Višegrad (1 night)
• Višegrad → Sarajevo (2 nights)
• Sarajevo → Mostar (1 night)
• Mostar → Trebinje (1 night)
• Trebinje → Perast / Kotor last 2 nights

I’m planning to explore some things around each base rather than trying to see absolutely everything, but I’ve unfortunately realised that it’s probably almost impossible to take the trip at a relaxed pace while also properly visiting Durmitor or making a detour into Serbia, right?
Does this route look reasonable for 10 days?

For me, coming from a bit more rural part it’s definitely the mentality to solve things without the state. (even if it is a bit illegal.)

In Germany we had a neighbour who always parked in the entrance of another home. My neighbours initially talked to him , then always called the “civil obedience” department / city workers . Nothing ever happened , it went on for years and years.

In the Balkans, he would’ve had his tires cut after a month. And everyone would be quiet about who it was . When I suggested to the Germans to maybe shovel in his car with snow in the winter they looked at me like I just suggested to beat him up or something like that.

No, even though he was disrespectful and blocking their entrance, they carefully avoided putting snow in front of his vehicle when cleaning the sidewalk

About me: I have lived 33/35 years outside of Bosnia & Herzegovina. 🇧🇦 I currently live in Southern California. It’s extremely expensive but I honestly love the weather.

I guess since I am inching toward 40, I have been thinking about retirement a lot more than before.

N. Macedonia implemented the "Safe City" system (name is a bit misleading since the system extends to public highways as well) some months back which automatically fines drivers who drive above the speed limit or run through a red light and about a week ago this was extended to foreign nationals as well who are now required to pay the fine at the border in order to leave. It turns out the majority of them were Serbian nationals who now are calling in social media to be exempt and are even reviving old nationalist wounds against the state.
