Resolved Middle school math
Tried doing this problem but it doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve tried making the bigger rectangle equal 1000 but that’s not right. Don’t know what it means by what does it equal.

The big rectangle can be 1000. That makes the number 1320. Divide by 5 is 264, which fits with the images below.

I don't think the first answer is correct, is it? Even though it's marked correct?
The shapes are equal to 1000 + 300 + 20 = 1320. The diagram shows that number divided into 5 equal groups, so the division problem it shows is 1320/5, and its answer is 264.

Yes this question is confusing but you are correct. I thought it was asking for the base number

I'm guessing the "it" in the question refers to the division problem from the previous part of the question. Although I'm not sure hiw the answer to the first part isn't 1,320/5.

Anything but numbers. But this is really confusing and you should ask your teacher because I feel like you’re right after staring at this for the past few minutes and attempting it

Write a pattern of divisions by 5 where the the longest rectangle represents a power of ten and observe that the order of the digits in the quotient remains the same while the place value changes.
13200/5=2,640
1320/5=264
132/5=26.4
Explain that this pattern extends infinitely in both directions of magnitude.

I'm very confused too.... how is the 1st answer 1000/5? That doesn't seem to fit anything shown.
If its depicting 1,000 /5 the answer should be 200... which really seems to suggest the 1st answer is wrong.
This feels like some weird bs to trick people into getting used to algebra that's harder than algebra actually is. And seems like they confused themselves (or maybe me, because I can't make those 2 answers make sense together) in doing it.
It looks like the diagram is depicting 1320 / 5 = 264....

I would have expected the first answer to be "1320/5", and the second "264".
Not sure why they should mark "1000/5" as correct -- makes no sense. Does that answer belong to a different question?

the division problem is dividing by 5 so should it be 1320/5?
