Help Learning to Sew

Hi all! I’m working on a project that requires some sewing. I have NEVER sewn before and was considering using the sewing machines at SD Central. Has anyone used them before, and would me learning on them be an issue? Maybe there’s another place in SD where I can take a sewing class?

San Diego homeowners: who actually sold you your $10k–$30k HVAC, plumbing or electrical project?

I'm looking into a potentially significant issue involving how residential home-improvement projects are being sold and financed in San Diego, and I'm hoping to hear directly from homeowners.

I'm particularly interested in situations where you originally called an HVAC, plumbing or electrical company for a repair, maintenance or service call — but during that visit, the technician recommended a major replacement or improvement.

For example: an HVAC system replacement, repipe, sewer project, electrical panel, or another substantial home-improvement project.

If that happened to you:

• Did the original service technician discuss replacement options or pricing with you?
• Did they discuss financing or monthly payments?
• Did another salesperson ever come to your home?
• Did you ultimately finance the project?
• Was the person listed as the salesperson on your paperwork the same person who actually discussed and sold the project to you?
• Approximately when did this happen?

California has requirements governing people who solicit, sell, negotiate or execute home-improvement contracts on behalf of contractors. I'm trying to determine whether there's a broader pattern between what actually happens during residential service calls and what ultimately appears on sales and financing paperwork.

I'm not claiming that every transaction fitting this description was unlawful, and I'm not asking anyone to accuse a company or individual of wrongdoing. I'm looking for firsthand homeowner experiences so the evidence can speak for itself.

If you're comfortable sharing the company involved, that's useful too.

Please don't post addresses, account/loan numbers, signatures or other private financial information.

San Diego MSPs / IT firms: is there demand for white-label Fortinet engineering support?

Hi everyone — I’m launching a boutique cross-border cybersecurity services firm focused in Fortinet on the San Diego–Tijuana area .

I’m trying to understand whether smaller MSPs or integrators in the San Diego area ever need extra engineering bandwidth for short-term projects, assessments, migrations, or overflow work. I’m trying to learn where the real need is and how firms usually work with outside specialists in this space.
Thanks cheers.

Recommendations for couple visiting

Hi! My husband and I (30 and 33) are coming back to the San Diego area for our second time but this time without our kids. Last time, we did a lot of the “kid friendly” things and now want to do more things for us but there seems to be an overwhelming amount of things to do!

We are staying in La Jolla but will have a car and don’t mind a nice road trip. We enjoy the outdoors, good food and drinks, and a nice sunset.

Any recommendations help 😊

Filtered water doesn’t feel good enough

I drink Brita filtered water. No matter how much I drink, I don’t feel satisfied and I feel tired. I tried mixing with electrolytes and ice. I still don’t feel hydrated enough. New to San Diego. If any of you felt the same way, did you make any changes to drink water? Can’t afford expensive filters

Best events or places to make friends?

Hi, I just moved to San Diego two months ago and I’ve been looking to hang out with other young adults. Making friends randomly with strangers is a bit more difficult for me because I am more introverted. However I do like to have fun, go to museums, theater, hiking, snorkeling etc. I do all these things by myself and it would be nice to make friends. Any ideas on how I can meet other young adults? I don’t drink, and I don’t like night clubs.

seaworld animal experiences

Has anyone done any of the animal experiences? What did you think of it? Especially for the "Cheaper" tours. I am especially interested in the shark up-close encounter but I'm open to other ideas. My son wants to do it but I'm not sure its worth $50 based on limited reviews I've found. He is 7 and pretty obsessed with sharks. I would love to do an in-water experience but its quite a bit out my price range, especially since he couldnt do it alone.

Is the San Diego Tribune worth the normal subscription price?

I moved to San Diego over two months ago from San Francisco, and San Diego is my local default in Google News.

I’m paying about $33 per month for a New York Times subscription, which includes The Athletic, Games, etc. (However, I’m utilizing the AmEx Platinum digital entertainment credit of $25 per month).

The SD Tribune is currently running a Labor Day promotion — for new subscribers only — at

$2 for 2 Years

Standard Digital

$4.99/week thereafter.

It‘s obviously cheap for the first two years, but how is the journalism, articles, etc.?

Anyone know the order of seats at Petco park concerts, section A2-A7?

Does anyone know if concert seats have seat 1 as closest to the center or left to right or right to left? Can't find a seat specific chart and the view from my seat website doesn't have enough data points for me to tell. Looking at section A2 seat 10 versus A7 seat 18.

Thanks!

Warning on vacationing in San Diego in August

Wow, so, I’ve been vacationing in San Diego for about 45 years & never knew NOT to go in August. Dreadful. Most of the things that make SD a great spot is all the things one enjoys is OUTSIDE or it’s cool enough even inside. Not in August. Almost NOWHERE we went has AC. Nowhere in Seaport Village, not the shops, not the restaurants, nowhere. Same in Coronado Island, plus, the beach was a bust—contaminated with FECES, so forget that sunset walk on the sand. Went to Liberty Station, the indoor mall part—BUST—also no AC. Even our hotel doesn’t AC their hallways. I’m told many hotels in Hawaii are like this—DEAL BREAKER! And we’re from Phx, so, not wimps to heat. But virtually all of SD’s attractions only work if it’s cool out. This year it sucked for August. Won’t be back for many years.

How did you determine your electrical panel's conduit size / capacity?

I need to get my Zinsco panel replaced ASAP but I don't know how many amps the conduit to my panel can handle. Based on other posts here, I requested a meter spot check from SDGE. I had to create a request in My Project Center just to get an email a month later from them. They asked for more information and then stopped responding over a month ago. They never confirmed a timeline or whether they would even send someone out.

I'm looking for any advice on next steps here with SDGE or the city.
