I was having a discussion with some friends about the best places in North County for Mexican food. Usually the conversation focuses on burritos, but this time we wanted to find the best carne asada fries. So what's your favorite place in North County to go to for carne asada fries? Ideally north of RB / RSF / Cardiff, since most of us live in Escondido / San Marcos / Oceanside.

The AC in my 2015 Kia optima hybrid is no longer cold. I was told can I get an AC refresh. Does anyone have a reliable recommendation for a place to get this done in north county? Somewhere that is cost effective and dependable? It’s miserable to drive around without ac. Thank you!

Curious if anyone knows where I can get an inflatable SUP board fixed? It's a (probably) super simple fix to replace/reglue the handle and deck pad but I usually end up making a bigger mess when I DIY. Googling and calling around, I'm just finding shops that handle fiberglass.

There is no cat scale (referring to the company/brand) in North county. I am looking for a scale to get not just the total weight of my rig, but axle specific. The one scale I found with United (?) in Vista only does total weight.

Anyone know of a scale in the area that does axle weight?

Hey all, I'm trying to find the best Fruit Tarts near RB for my wife's birthday.

I found some reddit threads from last year, but a couple of the places further north have permanently closed since then (and the still open ones are in North Park or downtown -- too far away to pick up).

Fwiw we live near Edelweiss -- I know they have good Apple Strudel (?), but I'm hoping to find actual "fruit tart" vendors. (Or just alternatives).

I just drove by Prohibition Brewing, and they have freshly-placed For Sale signs and a banner up. It’s kind of interesting as we went there yesterday for lunch with a relative from out of state, where we saw just one person taking care of the bar and dining room, and I mentioned that lately I have only seen them busy on the weekend evenings. Even then, they aren’t always packed like they used to be.

I don’t know if they’re shutting down now, there’s nothing on their webpage or socials about this, and I saw it driving by in Friday traffic so I didn’t pull off to see if they have any additional signs up. If I can be assed to I’ll update this when I see what’s happening.

Update: They are still open for now. Went in yesterday, 8/30, for a few pints. Asked the server if there was a closing date, etc. and she replied that all she knew was what was on the for sale signs out front; the employees haven’t been told anything about what’s going on. Pretty chickenshit behavior if you ask me. What was known is that they were selling the land and building, but not the business.

I'm a mt carmel student and i was there for the lockdown and bomb threat we had on monday. yesterday we had a secure campus and supposedly westview and another escondido school were on lockdown. i heard westview someone had a gun, not sure about san pasqual hs.

Hi all. My dad is in the early to middle stages of dementia and still living at home in Rancho Bernardo. We’re at the point where he shouldn’t be on his own all day, and I’m trying to figure out what in-home help actually looks like around here.

I’d rather hear from people who’ve been through it than read another agency website. If you’ve hired a caregiver or an agency in North County for a parent, what was your experience? What do you wish you’d known before you started?

And if you went a different route entirely — adult day programs, memory care, etc. — I’d also really appreciate hearing about your experience.
