Official Thread ICE Activity & Resources Daily Megathread - Saturday, Aug 01

Due to increased ICE activity, we’re instituting a daily ICE megathread. All ICE-related content belongs here, including sightings, activity reports, news, questions, updates, and general discussion.

Centralizing discussion keeps information easy to find, especially for people moving around the city who want timely, relevant updates without having to sort through the entire subreddit. ICE-related content posted outside this megathread will be removed and redirected here.

This thread is sorted by New by default so the most recent information remains visible.

How to use this thread

  • Top-level comments are for new sightings, updates, or firsthand information.
  • Replies should stay under the relevant comment to keep related info grouped.
  • Check existing comments first to avoid duplicate or redundant reports.

We recognize this is a tense topic and emotions can run high. That said, content that incites, encourages, or threatens violence will be removed, may result in a ban, and may also violate Reddit’s site-wide rules, which can carry site-wide consequences. Keep reports factual and grounded.

SALUTE when sharing sightings or activity

Include as many of the following details as possible:

  • Size: Number of individuals, vehicles, or units observed
  • Activity: What is happening, observed actions or behavior
  • Location: Clear, specific description of where this occurred
  • Uniform: Identifying markings, clothing, or agency indicators
  • Time: Date and approximate time of observation
  • Equipment: Vehicles, gear, or other notable tools present

Clear, accurate information helps everyone. Speculation and rumors do not.

Remember when you could walk in, grab an item, pay, and leave in less than five minutes without waiting for the one overworked employee to finally show up and unlock it for you?

This is the Silver Lake Vons, but it could be anywhere in LA these days.

Discussion Ralphs

1.2k Upvotes

I just want to make sure that everyone that doesn’t already know, now knows, that the reason Ralphs supermarkets doesn’t have an apostrophe is not to save sign money, it’s because IT IS NOT POSSESSIVE. The founder of Ralphs was George Ralphs. With an “s”. I found out cause I made a joke about “What’s if his last name was just Ralphs?”. Then googled it. It is. His last name is Ralphs. Absolutely ridiculous.

Discussion $701 to renew my tags is wicked 😭

I just checked my registration renewal and California wants $701.

SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS to renew my tags??? I knew registration was expensive out here, but I genuinely was not expecting that.

Between a car payment, insurance, parking, charging, and everything else that comes with having a car, seeing another $701 bill pop up for registration feels criminal 😭

Discussion The nights are finally getting cooler!

1.1k Upvotes

Like this is what I've been waiting for. If the day is hot it's not a big deal honestly as long as the nights cool but my area is getting nights in the 58-64 degree range this week and I'm so happy. Last week was like 78-80 at night and it was disgusting. Happy first day of meteorological autumn tomorrow! I'm finally going to open my windows for the first time tonight in who knows how long.

Hi everyone! I’m in the cosmetology program at LATTC in DTLA. Starting next week on Wednesdays and Thursdays we’ll be open to take clients now that the semester has officially started. We have a lot of talented people and want to make sure we get as much experience possible before being out in the world with our licenses. All services are monitored by licensed professionals with 20+ years salon experience.

If you’re looking for an affordable hairdresser, braider, loctician, colorist, nail tech, or barber please consider coming on campus and getting services by us.

If you do decide to come by, please come around 9-10 am to make sure we have enough time to service you fully during class time. Thank you!

ETA: there’s also an Esthetician course that does facials, waxing, and certain lash services! I’ll post the price list in the comment

Discussion I’m Sick of Los Angeles Carmunism

1.0k Upvotes

I‘m sick of watching the bodies pile. I‘m sick of bankrupting myself just to travel safely in this city.

I want bike lanes. I want bus lanes. I want the Freedom to take non-car options to get to my destination in a reasonable amount of time, and in a manner that I don’t have to worry about dying to get there.

I’m done with Los Angeles Carmunism.

News [LAist] Women veterans say San Pedro housing complex resolved their homelessness, but caused new traumas

When it first opened in 2015, Blue Butterfly Village was hailed as a rare sanctuary for women veterans overcoming homelessness. But some tenants now say conditions at the San Pedro townhome complex have become so bad, they’re willing to give up their taxpayer-subsidized rent and take their chances on finding a home they can afford on their own limited income.

The allegations: Twelve current and former tenants filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court last week against Blue Butterfly’s nonprofit landlord, Volunteers of America. The tenants allege the organization has neglected the property, has failed to provide safe and habitable housing and has harassed residents who complain about worsening conditions. The Housing Authority of the City of L.A. has placed at least three units at Blue Butterfly Village under abatement in recent years, meaning they have withheld rental subsidies until housing violations are addressed.

The landlord’s response: A Volunteers of America spokesperson declined an interview with LAist, but emailed a statement saying the organization could not comment on active litigation. “We regularly inspect our properties, including Blue Butterfly Village, and respond promptly to maintenance and safety requests from our residents,” the statement read. “We remain deeply committed to ensuring Blue Butterfly Village serves as a supportive environment for female veterans and their families, and we continue to collaborate with municipal partners and property management to address any outstanding maintenance or operational needs.”
