Any idea what this could be?

I am preparing for a big let down. I am hoping it will be a big announcement.

Bought Coleco?

17

u/no_shut_your_face 13d ago

I would love Coleco to get the Intellivision Sprint treatment.

8

u/Krommerxbox 13d ago

That would be awesome.

When I was a kid, my parents got us the Atari and later an Intellivision. We were around 15 or something by the time Colecovision came out, and they didn't fall for it that time.

It was kind of amazing we got an Atari, and then later an Intellivision for different Christmases since we were fairly "poor."

The Colecovision impressed me, since it was the first console I saw where the arcade games looked like they did in the arcade.

Also, adding Intellivision games to the Atari 50th on Xbox and such would be fantastic(and Colecovision of course, if they bought that catalog.)

8

u/9fingerjeff 13d ago

That would be pretty sweet

u/dukesinatra 13d ago

Dear God, please don't let it be a phone. On second thought..

8

u/Fragrant_Difficulty6 12d ago edited 11d ago

If it was, it would have 1 button. A red one…. In the corner.

5

u/zalzis 12d ago

It'd be funny if they try to make one because Commodore is making one. Both will probably be crap anyway, but it'll be fun if they fight against each other.

1

u/Turbulent-Spell-319 11d ago

If it's a phone I hope they at least make it a 1980's DynaTAC brick and not a flip phone. It could dual-purpose as a power bank.

1

u/dukesinatra 8d ago

Commodore came close last month, but they went in a slightly different direction.

u/CavediverNY 13d ago

It had better not be another fucking baseball cap. 😉

6

u/XGRiDN 13d ago

lmao... ngl, I've watched Planet Clue's video about Atari, and I have so many questions about that Atari hat with speakers in it. Like... why?

5

u/CavediverNY 13d ago

If you can think of a better way to listen to music while you're walking around I'd love to hear it. /s

2

u/XGRiDN 13d ago

lmao. at the same time, they could've just give their license to a cheap headphone company and still sell baseball caps w/out those damn speakers lol.

3

u/curtludwig 12d ago

Maybe they'll finally open their hotel/resort thing...

2

u/Biabolical 12d ago

Yeah, this time make it a bluetooth speaker fez.

2

u/fbalbi 11d ago

Someone at Atari reading this and immediately coming up with another product to announce 😂

13

u/Serious-Tiger734 13d ago

Ideas I have thought of 1. They bought colecovision. 2. They bought polymega. 3. They bought some unused IP from someone. 4. Another + system (unlikely) 5. They licensed some classic games to create compilations.

13

u/VolitarPrime 13d ago

They bought Atari Games from WB?

6

u/Serious-Tiger734 13d ago

Would be even better if they bought WB games.

2

u/BubsyFanboy 10d ago edited 10d ago

Ooh, I may be reponding late, but I even got a name for the merger of Atari-WB Games:

"Atari Midway, Inc."

And honestly, if they give a large chunk of shares to Warner Bros and keep up a consistent output of WB titles, I could even see Paramount-Warner agree for WB Games to be spun off and rebranded this way.

EDIT: Oh, and of course corporate scaffolding would have to be made for WB Games/our neo-Midway. As it currently stands, it cannot be its own entity.

5

u/traverse6 13d ago

I think your right on the Colecovision. They dropped two hints that point exactly that. Colecovision+ incoming.

The 2600 Activision Games and Tron Arcade

1

u/blaspheminCapn 13d ago

Microsoft owns Activision.

Tron game? Another wild guess but I'd go with Disney on that one

2

u/I-try-to-add-value 13d ago

All licenses including Disney😃

1

u/hecticengine 6d ago

Looks like you got the Activision part right.

8

u/elkniodaphs 13d ago

The color scheme is looking GTA. My worst incorrect guess? Integration with GTAVI, like Atari games inside an in-game arcade, or maybe Lucia owns a VCS. I'm wrong though, so move along.

1

u/frankduxvandamme 12d ago

That would be awesome!

1

u/Keyframe 11d ago

Straight out of Shenmue's playbook. Wouldn't be the first time 😂

8

u/_nextstep 13d ago

Lynx mini? Jaguar mini? Those would be my top two on the wish list.

2

u/RPOR6V 12d ago

Isn't the Lynx already mini enough?

7

u/fiercebanana 13d ago

Atari Amiico!

8

u/Jezzamk2 12d ago edited 12d ago

I would like to see a full size 800XL (not going to be a 400 as no one wants that keyboard. 800 would be fantastic but costs more to make than the XL and nothing used the 2nd cartridge slot).

Also would like a full size ST. They already have 2600 and 7800 and 400 mini which covers off most of their 8 bit stuff.

Atari has recently registered the 800XL under "home video game machines." This could point towards a full size 800XL, especially as Commodore is going through a bit of a revival with the full size 64.

3

u/Important-Bed-48 12d ago

This would be awesome.

1

u/JimtheLizardKing 11d ago

How about a 600xl?

1

u/Jezzamk2 10d ago

That would work for me as well.
The fact that Atari have registered 800XL suggests there are plans for that, although it could be an 800XL mini licensed to Retro Games. Feels pointless as they have The 400 mini, but that didn’t stop them releasing multiple C64 variants.
Still hurts to say the “c” word after all these years as a die hard Atari user. 2600, 400, 800XL, 520ST & 1040ST. Upgraded both the 400 and 1040ST during their lifetime

1

u/CrystalInTheforest 3d ago

Full size and fully usable XL (original OS/BASIC ROM, SIO and expansion port etc) XL would be great. You could easily do it as a a SOC. Just don't cheap out in the keyboard, and make a few modern quality of life improvements like build in SD card slot, USB-C for power etc. Having both HDMI and composite output would be great so you can choose between old school CRT and modern displays.

Dev cost wouldn't that that much as most of these things have already been done within the open source community, and the demand would def be there, as we've seen with the flashbacks.

6

u/Rusty_Ferberger 13d ago

A remake of the E.T. game?

3

u/bottle-o-rockets 13d ago

We'd need to get the AVGN bat signal out if that happened.

17

u/Ill_Beyond_7909 13d ago

Jaguar 2 or new Atari ST/TT hopefully

4

u/liquidphantom 13d ago

I honestly would love to get my hands on a Falcon one day.

3

u/daddyd 12d ago

there are two falcon remake projects ongoing right now. they probably won't be cheap, but i'm guessing they'll still be cheaper than a real falcon.

2

u/Cyhawk 13d ago

it better have midi ports.

6

u/garygnu 13d ago

Is it the movie deal with Universal?

8

u/danlucas 13d ago

Atari 5200+ would be so dope

3

u/9fingerjeff 13d ago

I was just thinking the same thing.

3

u/syrtran 13d ago

Doesn't the 400 mini have that covered?

1

u/CavediverNY 12d ago

For me the difference would be the controller

1

u/syrtran 12d ago

I can see that. Let's hope they wouldn't duplicate the 5200 controller exactly. Some centering springs would be nice.

1

u/CavediverNY 12d ago

Best electronics out in California used to sell amazing rebuild kits and restored/improved controllers. I picked up a bunch of 2600 joystick parts as well as refurbished joysticks, and some 7800 brand new controllers along with a really interesting little game pad – imagine the old Nintendo NES controller and you're pretty much there.

I don't know if best is still in business but those guys were amazing! I picked up a 2600 test console from them that I still have, I have no idea what it's worth but I suspect it's reasonably rare at this point. At least I hope it is…

u/starcube 13d ago

Anniversary unearthing of ET: Phone Home.

5

u/SelineMaya 13d ago

Atari 5200+

4

u/mtoth 13d ago

It's going to be another Atari Members Only jacket.

3

u/kevincrossman 13d ago

Digital storefront / locker for digital download games, maybe? (Modern titles, not 2600/7800)

3

u/chzman80 12d ago

What colecovision exclusives are they that they can get without getting license fee from other companies?

4

u/Pavelbure77 13d ago

Playable Atari games in GTA VI.

1

u/Logan_McPhillips 12d ago

GTA Vi playable on an Atari console.

2

u/Fresh-Toilet-Soup 13d ago

Vcs 2 with physical media

2

u/traverse6 13d ago

I think I figured it out and it was already mentioned earlier in this thread. First clue "This is gonna be a game changer." Next part of the email says "We have a vision for your game shelf." So i would Venture to say Colecovision+ incoming. From those 2 clues and the previous comments. Man that would be awesome!

2

u/spoung45 13d ago

The relaunch of the Atari 5200, but bigger!

2

u/Communist_Potatohead 13d ago

Calling it… Lynx II.

2

u/Krommerxbox 13d ago

Atari 2600 will play the most primitive, pixelated, porn that seems non-porn ever!

2

u/altoona_sprock 12d ago

Rewrote the original ET so it's actually playable?

1

u/John_from_ne_il 12d ago

Been done. The hacked ROM may or may not still be on AtariAge.

2

u/Someguy8995 12d ago

A replacement 5200 controller with even more buttons on it!

2

u/Fragrant_Difficulty6 12d ago

Atari Flashback 13 Platinum with Halo and Doom included.

2

u/Big_Arachnid_365 12d ago

Tabletop S.T.U.N. Runner arcade.

2

u/Brando2041 12d ago edited 12d ago

Please buy back the Atari games catalog from Warner bros… please? I know it’s probably not this but I can dream can I?

3

u/Yomimashita53 10d ago

More like, they should get the entire Midway catalog: Midway, Williams, and Atari Games (the former arcade division of the original Atari; the console division became Atari Corporation).

Still, anyone can only wait and see what happens...

1

u/Brando2041 10d ago edited 10d ago

Agreed though asking for the mortal kombat franchise might be a bit too much of an ask for atari. Besides, it’ll be nice to have Atari and Atari games division under one umbrella you know? But yes midway and Williams as well.

2

u/rtmreader 8d ago

With the WB/Paramount deal in flux, I could see there being a hold on selling the ip right now, unless this deal had been going on for a while so it could still go through

But I could definitely see a world where WB sells all that off with the exception of Mortal Kombat and maybe Rampage

2

u/samspock 11d ago

They are finally releasing the 1450xld.

2

u/jlouse 11d ago

Hopefully game/ console related and not the new Atari hotel chain…

2

u/Alice7800 10d ago

Atari jaguar 2

1

u/ElGranQuesoRojo 8d ago

Atari Jaguar CDX

3

u/Itchy-Lingonberry-90 13d ago

If it's a secret, ignore it. They'll tell us when they're good and ready. No sense poking around where we're not wanted.

1

u/rtmreader 8d ago

It’s fun to speculate tho

2

u/gnntech 13d ago

Crappy flip phone?

2

u/cockcucu 13d ago

Yar's Revenge II

1

u/TVLubber 12d ago

They already have Yars' Return.

0

u/cockcucu 12d ago

Really? Any good? I haven't sat in front of an Atari since the 80s

1

u/deanredd99 12d ago

Yars Recharged on PS5 is fantastic! Dual stick movement is perfect.

1

u/MojoTheRed 13d ago

E.T. remaster?

1

u/garnef42 13d ago

I thought this was a crossover with Dropout for a second...

1

u/WeeDawgNYC 13d ago

Colecovision reboot

1

u/BSguy3000 12d ago

Something that can change games for you?

1

u/Which_Information590 12d ago

An official Atari flashcart so we can change games

1

u/Micbronto_Shonuff 12d ago

Hopefully my shares will run into big money.

1

u/Anothercoot 12d ago

Probably some cloud service emulator for atari games. "What you don't like the classics?"

1

u/Ok_Emergency416 12d ago

Game shelf, email link says so

1

u/marhaus1 11d ago

So, a game changer 😅

1

u/obitsonj 12d ago

Atari 26000 console.

1

u/eddio69 11d ago

Big let down, it will be

1

u/throwawayinfinitygem 11d ago

Atari VR Segway!

1

u/Forsaken-Abrocoma647 11d ago

Palmer Lucky new CEO? They've been working with him on his Modretro stuff. Weapons manufacturing and video games always went well together! Plus he's gotta throw more parties for the orange guy, and modern Atari is definitely a fan there.

1

u/TheMcCleary 10d ago

Dropout crossover. Sam has been there the whole time.

1

u/FinishEmbarrassed619 10d ago

ET remaster

1

u/quackernaut_quack 7d ago

I was gonna snark a 100.00 tshirt, but this...so much better. Thank you!

1

u/tkonicz 7d ago

Sound like a modern, affordable, arm based Atari console - plays all the + retro and modern new cartridges. It could utilize the translation layer Valve made for the Steamframe.

1

u/digdugnate 6d ago

The big announcement is overly priced Activison 'Collector' cartridges.

https://atari.com/products/atari-x-activision-ultimate-deluxe-set

It's Malibu Stacy with a new hat, and suckers are paying $250 a set for the privilege.

0

u/pipopapupupewebghost 12d ago

We are now owned by the Saudi Arabian investment fund : ) !!!

0

u/EntertainmentAny8228 12d ago

For anyone saying Lynx+ or Jaguar+, not a chance. ColecoVision+ is a long shot, but far more likely. I suspect it's something else entirely, though, with a hint of disappointment due to the hype and hyperbole.

0

u/Spelunka13 6d ago

Atari is done.

u/AverageDrafter 13d ago

More coasting on a name that means nothing anymore by a private equity entity that keeps trying to make it happen so it can suck a few more nickels out of dummies?
