Mixing 2 track phase

Does the phase of a 2 track beat really matter or mean anything, and if so how would I go about fixing it and getting its correlation up?

(Sorry if my question is confusing I’m not home right now to give a physical example but will do that asap!)

You’ll to be more specific. The phase in what sense? What exactly is the issue you’re asking about? If you have material that is entirely different in the left and right channels, like some of the mixes in the 60s then technically the left and right channels are 100 percent unrelated in terms of phase but that’s not an issue. What exactly is your question?

Phase is always a relationship between two signals. Which two signals are you referring to?

If you are referring to the phase correlation between the left and right in your 2 track: 100% correlation is (dual) mono. Less correlation is wider.

In general, stereo *is* phase/signal decorrelation.

If you wany to know whether to fix something, describe what sounds bad about it. Phase correlation/decorrelation can each sound good or bad. And there are an enumerable potential remedies depending on the issue and the goal.

I think I know what you mean. Probably just means it's a real wide beat.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it sounds really weird or folds down to mono horribly.

But if it seems like it's too much, just pan the track more towards the center and that should get your meter looking more "in phase."

You may have gotten it exactly, the beat itself sounds fine but in my multimeter (logic stock) there is a phase/correlation meter that dips down into the negatives/red, I’ve heard that that’s not exactly ideal or could cause problems so I just wanted to double check and come up with some kind of solution for a fix if needed.

Play it in mono. If it got weird, that’s your answer

If you have elements within a mixed track that disappear when summed for example, there is not a lot you can really do about it other than re-mix it with the element fixed.

I dont exactly understand the question but I reccommend you do an A/B test and a null test

If it nulls it doesnt matter

It sounds the same it probably doesnt matter

If it sounds different it matters
