Long term transfer planning

Firstly; forgive the ranting post - I was just thinking about how good a window we’ve had; and it got me thinking…

One thing thats not been spoken about much is that we seem to be doing some sneaky long term planning for our UEFA squad building:

In the next 2-3 years; our club trained players could become:
- Bogarde
- Hemmings
- Madjo
- Mbaye

This meets the 4 slots.

Home grown includes the above plus:
- Mings (retiring)
- Barkley (retiring)
- Cash
- Maatsen
- Garnacho (possibly)
- THB
- Abraham
- AWB
- Wright

Unfortunately our homegrown could quickly start reducing as most seem to be the older players; or those perhaps not quite good enough.

I think cash, Maatsen, THB, and Wright probably means we hit the 4 required regardless?

I could see us continuing to pick up 17/18 year olds with a view to getting them classed as club trained players for us going forwards (plus this increases sale value within the Premier League).

Rowe could sensibly replace AWB as RB2 as he heads towards retirement?

We probably need another young CM - could JJA, Borland or Boyd step up? What about the under the radar signing of Kane Taylor?

We probably need to buy another young Winger - particularly if garnacho doesn’t cut it.

I think this could definitely start to impact our next 2/3 transfer windows - and if we can carry on picking up the likes of Mbaye, that’ll be amazing!

Otherwise; looking at players like Garner, Branthwaite and others we were linked with do make a lot of sense…

You said it yourself, long term planning.

We've just oversaw a massive squad haul, currently, were fine, let's worry about that later, more pressing matters at the moment.

No worry at my end; my point was more that I trust our management and think this is being thought about, just not really discussed as a fan base.

I think we are set up nicely to continue as we are - picking up young talent and the odd experienced pro for the trenches.

Ahh you are correct with Mbaye; I was getting mixed up with the Jan 1st rules for the U21 player registration (I naively assumed it would be the same - but trust UEFA to use 2 sets of rules!), and he will not get 2 years and 5 months based on his birthday - no not quite enough.

It’s going to be an exciting few windows - fingers crossed we hit on some big players!

It's 3 seasons registered, or 36 months.

Wright is already considered club trained. Mbaye can never be club trained with us for UEFA as he didn’t arrive on his 18th birthday (needs to be at least 36 months between ages of 15-21). Madjo is gunna have a weird registration journey, List A first (if he’s added), then at some point List B, then eventually Club trained.

For sure, our next windows will have a homegrown theme, and I do think that the players you mentioned Garner and Brainthwaite specifically are ideal for us. Emery definitely likes Garner. Rowe has just been let go as a loan with an option. I think the club likes Burrowes and we definitely should keep an eye on his loan spell this season to see how he does - it’s league 1 so he should be able to smash it.

Tammy, Mings and Barkley you’d expect to leave in the next year. I also think Bogarde isn’t gunna hang around if he doesn’t get enough football this season. The others probably okay for now

Mbaye can be club trained if registered for 3 seasons in the PL. It's how Arsenal got Saliba club trained whilst sending him out on loan.

From UEFA: A "club-trained player" is a player who, between the ages of 15 (or the start of the season during which the player turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during which the player turns 21), and irrespective of the player's nationality and age, has been registered with the player's current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons (i.e. a period starting with the first official match of the relevant domestic championship and ending with the last official match of that relevant domestic championship) or of 36 months. In the context of this paragraph, the season immediately preceding a player’s 15th birthday may be counted if the player's birthday is after the last match of the relevant domestic championship but before or on 30 June (winter championships) or 31 December (summer championships), and the season immediately following the player's 21st birthday may be counted if the player's birthday is on or after 1 July (winter championships) or 1 January (summer championships) but before the first match of the relevant domestic championship.

I don’t think these are long term planning. Madjo possibly is, Alysson is…the others are ready now. They’re young but they have tonnes of experience. You look at mbeye and he’s won more in his 2 years than most players do in a whole career, he’s been at a World Cup and is light years ahead of the u21 players we have.

We’ve sold extremely well and I don’t think we have had our pants pulled down too badly on any of the incoming.
