I would say they have been growing for 6 months

Hey everyone, I could really use some help diagnosing my indoor avocado plant (grown from seed). As you can see in the pictures, the leaves are drooping heavily, and some have developed brown, crispy edges and spots.
Here is all the context and what I’ve done so far:

Environment: Kept indoors with bright, indirect light. I live in Spain, so it’s currently very hot right now (late summer).

Pot & Soil: Plastic nursery pot with drainage holes (it used to be inside a decorative stone pot, but I took it out for better airflow). The soil is a mix of universal potting soil and perlite.

Monitoring: I use a smart Zigbee moisture sensor in the soil to track hydration.

My Questions for you:
The large leaves are still very sad and droopy (though the tiny new growth at the very top looks green and okay). I know avocados show the exact same symptoms for overwatering and underwatering.
1. Based on the pictures (the specific way they are drooping and the brown necrotic spots), does this look like the physical hangover/damage from the overwatering phase, or does it look like it's currently underwatered?

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! (Pictures attached).

Just an update on my Avocado seedlings from my last post around a month ago. The left one was started May 12th and the right one was started June 11th.

I’m excited! Unfortunately this fruit is from 2026 flowers so it is not ready to eat this year. But I am impressed by how soon the tree produced fruit after planting.

Lots of browning starting from tips of the leaves to center. Still seeing new growth. Haven’t ever pruned. Currently potted outside in SoCal summer heat around 85-90F (partial shade, sun exposure starting at around 1pm). Watering once a week. Used ProMix potting soil in the pots. Bigger tree (hass) has some sand missed into the soil to encourage better drainage.

Both purchased from Costco.

My friend bought a house that had a mature avocado tree in the backyard. He isn’t sure what kind but they were big and the fruit tasted like Hass bought from store, but the seed wasn’t round like the store bought ones. Wondering if anyone knows what kind this would be?

First fruits from my seed grown avocado are looking promising. Will update once they ripen.

Today I rushed for no reason and planted my 9mo old seedling in the ground outside at 2am in 90F heat and ~40% air humidity. The plant instantly went into severe shock and I am not sure if any young growth recovers or survives at all. In the photos you can see how weak and droopy young leaves became.

So this is rather a reminder to myself and maybe other avo beginners not to plant during a hot day, and preferably not during summer at all.

What are your bets — will the tree live to see another day?

Been growing on there since May 2025. Usually they are down by June. It’s South SF here with East exposure. I’m guessing we have had a pretty cool summer and that’s why? But no flowers this year (I did buy some MKP) so this is all I’m getting for the next 2 years!! Anyone else experiencing late fruit ripening??

My avo plant is close to exceeding room to grow. There is no obvious window light available to relocate it (basement apartment). Suggestions?

Okay so I put my Avocado seed in water and I wanted to check on it tonight and the seed slipped off my hands and the emerging root literally broke... Is there a chance it wil still grow long or did I officially kill it? I put it back in the water. I'm so sad pls give me hope

I have a Stewart and a GEM planted right next to each other. They are both mound planted exactly the same, are on the same water and fertilizer schedule, etc.

But while my GEM looks super healthy, the new growth leaves on the Stewart are coming out wrinkly.

Is this just part of the natural growth of this variety, such that the leaves will straighten out as they mature? Or am I doing something wrong?

What is the consensus on placing a simple one stone high and wide border 4 to 5 feet away from the trunk? My tree root flare is a foot higher than the ground. Paver border stone is "hefty" 3-1/2" tall. Drip system is inside the ring.

Trying to keep St. Augustine grass out. Placing the stone right on top of the grass, at the edge of my mulched area, eventually it will nestle in, and inhibit grass roots from entering through.

No digging.

While the trees are young the canopy does not inhibit weed/grass growth much. I have a couple of huge avos with weeds under them, and no problems with them.

The shallow root system of the young avo has me concerned a bit. Beautiful manicured gardens that I see in peoples yards, don't mean that it is good for the tree.

Planted this 15 gallon tree back in early June on a south facing hill. Lots of new bronze leaves/growth in the first six week or so but that’s since subsided. Leaves are a touch pale with some brown tips forming which I read is due to salt accumulation. Watering about 1x-2x per week with a soaker hose depending on how dry the soil is (finger test). Soil is predominantly clay so doing my best not to over water.

I'm still a very inexperienced avocado grower. What i usually do is make them germinate using the wet paper towel method, then put them in water with toothpicks, and then when they have roots long enough pot them in a plastic bottle.

The result, besides the one that actually grew a bit taller, is that either their stem grows a little bit and then flops and dries out, or they don't grow a stem at all. Why is that happening? Is it too much heat? Is it not enough water refiling? With the potted ones, am I underwatering or overwatering them? Should I even place them in plastic bottles? And lastly how can I know whether they're dead so that I can move on and try again with new ones?

About 5 years ago, I planted a Coorg avocado sapling at here in Bengaluru. It’s now a full grown tree, and I’m harvesting avocados from it for the second time.

Each fruit is Approx. 400–450g per fruit and is grown without pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Selling at Rs150/kg have both semi-ripe (dark green) and fully ripe (brown) can porter anywhere in blr. DM me if interested.

I just want to take better care of the plant.

So this is the 4th avocado seed I have grown from Costco avocados and it came out wayyy different than all the other ones.

It stayed small with the thick white “succulent like” leaves for about 2 months then randomly this morning noticed the leaves growing!!

Anyone know what this is or why?
