Update: finally buzzed it
I posted about 2 months ago and finally got the courage to try. While I still think it would look better cut lower, my barber talked me out of it for now and used a 1.5 guard (I know, I know, just trying to not lose me as a customer). I’m looking for thoughts and feedback. I know I was overdue with the amount of hair loss I had, but is this any better or still look bad?
Edit - 1.5 guard on top and down to skin on the sides

Looks good, but.. keeping going man. You’ll feel 1000x better about yourself. At least take the 1.5 down to a zero. The middle is already there- just need the sides.

Against the grain on the thick parts. One guard up on the thin parts if you’re gonna buzz
If not, full shave will look cleaner

Sorry, but you don't have enough density for a buzzcut with a skin fade.

Go all the way friend. It looks so much more thoughtful and clean when you go all the way. Buzz cut says I care but the effort is too much.

Keep going. Looks so much better shaved, but it will look even better after you shave it all off

You look better, and maybe the buzz has a good effect from the side, but it's still giving 10/10 "balding" from up front. You'll look even better clean shaven.
Besides, hair this short grows back quick to try again if you like.
