Ask Elective induction 39 weeks

Does anyone have any obgyn who they know will do an elective induction in the falls road/timonium/ Towson area?

They won't induce you at 39 weeks unless you are measuring huge for your dates. They won't even help along labor until 39 weeks. Why do you want to be induced?

Very much depends on the practice! The ARRIVE trial showed there can be some benefits to electively inducing at 39 weeks. It’s not something I’ve been interested in for my children, but my friend has had two elective inductions at 39 weeks. Both pregnancies were completely low risk/ normal with no other indication for early induction.

Was not that way when I gave birth, it was a hard rule. And I heard similarly from a lot of my friends.

This isn’t true. My OB prefers to induce at 39+1. There’s a fair amount of science to support inducing before 40 weeks.

It could vary by doctor or patient/pregnancy, but IME their policy is mandatory inductions at or around 41 weeks, or elective inductions around 40 only if deemed "favorable" - meaning your body is showing signs of progressing toward labor (dilation, effacement, station, contractions etc.). They told me early on that they do not do elective inductions if your body isn't ready. I went into labor both pregnancies at 39w (after doing membrane sweeps beginning at 38w), so I am not sure if they stick to that policy if the patient is insistent on an early induction.

I called them they said they wouldn’t do elective induction unless medically necessary :(

Interesting. Do you already have an OBGYN you’ve been seeing elsewhere? I don’t think my induction was really medically necessary but I had just completely had it, was in pain, and my doctor said it would be safe to induce. I wonder if they say they won’t because they don’t have your whole history, maybe.

I moved from New York so don’t have anyone here but my records indicate I’ve had elective inductions in past

Teresa Hoffman of Hoffman and Associates prefers/recommends them. She’s affiliated with Mercy but not sure if she has privileges around Towson.

I had a good experience at Mercy in Baltimore - not exactly the Timonium/Towson area but it's right off I-83. I saw Dr. Blum (and Dr. Appel) at Baltimore OB/GYN. I had an elective induction scheduled for 39w (but then chose to postpone until 40w), though I wasn't able to schedule it until maybe my 38w appointment.

Second this practice.   I didn’t chose to have an elective induction but she offered it up to me and went through the study , how they proceed with inductions, and dates that worked for me.

I just had one 3 months ago. Johns Hopkins Community Physicians were wonderful and able to schedule my induction 6 weeks or so in advance so I could meet with my doctor several times. They deliver at JHH. I had an incredible experience with Drs. Ranaweera and Javelkar. Dr. Langehorn was also wonderful.

Not sure of the doctor’s name, but my friend has had two elective 39 week inductions at Mercy. Mercy has a good reputation in general for childbirth services.
