I actually didn't realize Coors Field has the largest field dimensions of any field in the MLB and it's still the most hitter friendly park in the Majors.

I suppose you could try to reduce HRs by backing the walls up even further than Coors, but increasing the dimensions of the field then places even greater demands on the outfielders' range, and you might reduce HRs compared to Coors but you might drastically increase BABIP.

Metro GDP is much higher than a number of existing Major League markets including Kansas City, Cincinnati, Baltimore, St Louis, Tampa, Pittsburgh, etc.

Not saying it WILL happen, or is even likely, but I think a motivated ownership group from the area could absolutely make a strong case if they wanted to.

My favorite two things: instead of looking out at the field/game, he would often turn to look up at the broadcast booth as if they were having an in-person conversation. And also he would interrupt their questions to him by asking them questions. once he asked what Don and Mud's favorite ice cream flavors were.

It was always entertaining, never predictable and I would find myself turning up the volume and laughing along for a half inning.

People who say this don't know anything about what it's like on the ground in Nashville. There's no appetite to spend public money on a ballpark in Nashville. They just provided more than a billion dollars in state + local funding for the new Titans stadium, after there was a big fight over funding the MLS stadium, and a decade ago they spent a bunch of money on the AAA stadium.

The current mayor of Nashville just got elected in 2023, and when he was campaigning, one of the big things he emphasized was opposition to public funding for the Titans stadium.

Any ballpark would have to get paid for using almost exclusively private funds. And that's not going to happen.

Salt lake will get it. Ownership and a stadium site with funding is already set. I agree that Portland and Vancouver would maybe be better markets but they don’t even have stadium plans yet and are both having fights over the their current major stadiums. Salt lake has a good sporting fan base though with three professional teams and two major collegiate programs in the area.

Portland does have stadium plans. Portland Diamond Project bought a land option by the waterfront right next the Tilikum Crossing and released early concept art of a 32,000 seat stadium. The Oregon legislature also authorized $800M in public funding for MLB.

Portland’s biggest hurdle is not having an ownership group ready to go like you say.

It’s the same deal as every time a team moves their stadium. They leased Smith’s but the Millers wanted total control of the revenue that comes from owning their own stadium. People willingly live in Phoenix. Utah is going to keep growing even if it gets hot. Currently projected to grow by 2 million people by 2050.

The only climate issue that will push people out is the lake dust, and at some point they'll either take water from the alfalfa farmers, or there will be some giant infrastructure project to get water there. Our politicians have their heads in the sand, but they won't let all their property and development investment dry up if the population actually starts declining.

To be clear I recognize the impacts of climate change and water scarcity, I just think the idea that SLC will be a ghost town in 50 years is really unrealistic and overdramatic.

Lake Mead isn’t looking so great currently. People willingly live in Nevada too. As of this writing they project another 35 ft lake loss and are already at the lowest it’s been in its recorded history. They mentioned it’s 1040 ft below normal today with more to come. The next week it’s going to be in the 100’s.

The good thing is here in the Wasatch we get all of our water from local sources (of which we give 60% to Alfalfa farmers). The Colorado River emergency is going to impact Vegas/Phoenix/LA, but SLC has it's own sources thanks to the mountains right here.
