Never forget that Matt Szczur risked completely derailing his major league sports career to donate bone marrow and save a little kid's life.

The type of donation he did was intensive and basically ended his college season. It took a lot of guts to make that call.

I'm not surprised to see that he's thriving, post-MLB. I am a bit surprised that he's that good, these look great!

Good on Matt! I was on the donation list for over 20 years when I got a call that I was a match!! Oddly enough I got the initial call while driving to a Cubs game.

Unfortunately I was denied participation during the subsequent Q/A session. Apparently one of the drugs given to donors sometime in the process can cause strokes in people who have previously been concussed (or people with concussion history are at higher risk for stroke?).

At the time I’d experienced four concussions. So I was thanked for my participation, but regretfully declined the opportunity to help. I’m still bummed a decade later.
