Spending money on players wasn’t the problem for Moreno he was just a dumbass about it. Kroenke needs to invest in the infrastructure and not meddle

I cant recall if he said where it was, but they did not have a weight room. I joke about it being in the parking lot because frankly where else is there enough room for multiple ball players to work out than the parking lot. But i do think they said they did somethings in the parking lot.

If its any consolation they also fired all of their physical therapists to save money. And told players the best way to get in shape was run hard down the line, according to cj

This is how cheap owners like to operate

Make a splash with a big contract or two for your superstar or your manager

But you pinch every last fucking penny in the areas that don’t make the headlines and the vast majority of fans won’t look for. Like facilities, scouting, analytics, development, training, medical, minor league benefits.

If you pay a couple big league guys and your manager but let every level of the organization rot and decay you get the Angels, Pirates, Reds etc…

Isn't it the opposite, to me this was always about wasting time fretting over the small things too much that you could have rather spent making decisions on the larger things that vastly outweigh the small things. Ignoring all the little things is not in any way being "penny wise" that's just cheap. A penny wise person is someone rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. They havent been above .500 for over a decade, the AC is not remotely an cause of that.

He'd be focused only on shit like an AC not working if he were actually penny wise.

Yeah there's two interpretations of the phrase that have evolved over time, the original which is as you said essentially rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic and then the second which has been morphed into essentially someone who's cheap with small purchases and frivolous with large.

True. Also, might be wrong but only 7 teams were willing to let Shohei develop as a hitter and pitcher. Only Angles were willing to let Shohei hit and pitch the same day with no restrictions. I’ll give that to Moreno if true.

He also meddled in affairs like axing the Rengifo trade when the front office was scrambling to get it done or forbidding Shohei from getting traded just for him to sit out that last month.

He only ever cared about getting an immediate return on investment

It’s okay to splurge big on Pujols because it will put bums in seats but there’s no need to invest in scouting, the farm system, analytics, etc because we wouldn’t see the benefits of that until much later lol he was the worst!

The problem was that he would spend money on big name players but he didn't want to pay the luxury tax so he'd cheap out on everyone else

He ran the team the exact same way any passionate fan without a lot of knowledge or experience with running a sporting organization would. Probably not dissimilar to how any of us would have run it. That’s how you end up paying Rendon to play like 10 games a season.

As a Rams fan…you wont hear from him.  He stays in the background.

I understand people don’t like him, but he absolutely supports his teams, and he does it while letting the professionals handle everything.

Id go as far as to say he might be one of the more underrated owners.  His business moves draw a lot of criticism (like moving the Rams out of STL), but he doesn’t meddle in the day to day.

Arte actually spend a bit of money in the infrastructure in the past couple years. The pitchin lab in Arizona is aparently pretty nice and e have seen ood signs in the pitching development.

Still, a lot more needs to be done

As a Rams fan the one thing I always give Stan a shit ton of credit for is that he isn’t the type of owner to meddle in the day to day, he knows how to hire good people and let them do their jobs. He owns so many teams that he isn’t really getting too involved in any one in particular. His son Josh is the one who gets in the way and meddles more, but Stan seems to keep him away from his personal favorites

That’s the best part about Kroenke. It’s also the worst part about Kroenke. He doesn’t meddle and trusts the people he hire, whether they do a good job or not.

Kroenke isn’t the meddling type. He hires the best people and lets them do their jobs. Kind of the ideal owner honestly.
