This is the only source I see reporting on it, but it's also the LA Times so that's mostly reputable. I want to believe but I've been hurt before

Edit: Oh my God it's real. Multiple other sources confirming it. I've dreamed of this day for so long.

You're not worried Kroenke will want to move the Angels to LA County?

10

u/LOVExLIFEx1994 Los Angeles Dodgers 1h ago

I heard rumors about a Long Beach move.

That’ll be interesting. I’m sure Stan has some friends in Inglewood so imagine a ballpark next to Sofi and Intuit? Making Inglewood LA sports hub

10

u/swiftycent San Francisco Giants 1h ago

If the giants were able to hold off A’s moving to San Jose area dodgers gotta be able to stop them from coming to Inglewood if so inclined? Right?

Plus even though dodger stadium is nice and historic a brand new possibly sofi level new stadium would be an interesting dilemma for dodgers org.

This is coming out of nowhere right? I didn't think Arte was actively trying to sell at the moment. I know he had tried in the past, but decided to hold onto the team. Were there recent developments I had missed??

70

u/Ingliphail Milwaukee Brewers 2h ago

I mean the Lakers were basically sold over a weekend, so sometimes this stuff can go super fast.

91

u/captain_ahabb Los Angeles Dodgers 2h ago

Turns out you get a better price for your asset if you're not constantly acting like you want to get rid of it

35

u/AgnarCrackenhammer New York Mets 2h ago

I don't think that applies to sports franchise. No one wanted to get rid of a team faster than Mark Walters wanted to get rid of the Lakers and he still managed to get $2.5B more for the team than he paid less than a year prior

14

u/Dijohn17 New York Yankees 1h ago

Well that's because it's the Lakers. He wasn't selling the Pelicans

42

u/TheOrangeFutbol Anaheim Angels • Los Angeles Dodgers 2h ago

I randomly met met someone this summer who's actually related to Arte, and as we were talking, he kind of hinted that because he's in that stage of life where he's getting things in order for the family, etc, he probably going to move on from ownership in the not too distant future.

13

u/YEGSports Seattle Mariners 1h ago

He had already considered selling the team once before. Even though he ultimately didn't, you had a feeling this day would eventually come. It's just still a surprise when it actually does.

For those of us across the pond Arsenal also just won the Premier League and made the Champions League final

u/versusChou Hanshin Tigers 1h ago

Funnily enough, 9 years ago Kroenke specifically said he didn't buy Arsenal to win trophies and was hated by Rams fans as he moved them from St. Louis back to LA. Kinda crazy how he's gone from one of the most hated owners to one of the most successful.

335

u/bigyellowjoint Los Angeles Angels 2h ago

Unfortunately this is probably too late for Trout. Arte actually did spend quite a bit on splashy quick-fix attempts that failed miserably. The franchise needs ground up infrastructure redevelopment that probably won’t pay off until the very tail end of Trouts career

148

u/Lost_Bike69 Los Angeles Dodgers 1h ago

I will always defend Moreno. Lots of owners don’t spend. Moreno spent plenty and the Angels were consistently in the top 1/3 of MLB payrolls in his tenure. He’s just an idiot and ran the team exactly the way the Angels FB comment section would.

I guess I’m not defending Moreno, but he’s a different breed of bad owner compared to the Jerry Reinsdorfs of the league.

As a Rams fan…you wont hear from him.  He stays in the background.

I understand people don’t like him, but he absolutely supports his teams, and he does it while letting the professionals handle everything.

Id go as far as to say he might be one of the more underrated owners.  His business moves draw a lot of criticism (like moving the Rams out of STL), but he doesn’t meddle in the day to day.

16

u/TJ2 Houston Astros 1h ago

Most importantly, he spends a lot on coaches for the Rams and paying out big signing bonuses to help with cap space restructuring.

I thought the NFL had a rule against its owners also owning teams from other leagues in the same market.

Return of the Anaheim Angels incoming

u/taffyowner Minnesota Twins 1h ago

They only ban ownership of other sports in cities that host other NFL teams or are potential NFL cities.

So he had to transfer the Avalanche and the Nuggets to his wife and have his son run them as a loophole but since the angels are in market he can just buy them

12

u/davelb87 Cleveland Guardians 1h ago

Gotcha. He’s allowed to compete against himself, but not other owners.

Good for them, Angels are such an underperforming franchise that could be so successful with the right people. Shame that Trout or early Ohtani couldn’t benefit from this

Moreno leaving is objectively a positive for the league.

But I reserve the right to hate Kroenke.
