I thought the NFL had a rule against its owners also owning teams from other leagues in the same market.

They only ban ownership of other sports in cities that host other NFL teams or are potential NFL cities.

So he had to transfer the Avalanche and the Nuggets to his wife and have his son run them as a loophole but since the angels are in market he can just buy them

Gotcha. He’s allowed to compete against himself, but not other owners.

Iirc there's tomfoolery with who technically is the owner of some of his teams, but everyone knows it's really Stan at the top

You see, one team plays in Inglewood and one plays in Anaheim. Those are two separate locations, especially when one owner can make the baseball team better and therefore bring millions of dollars to the economy.

/s of course

Edit: I looked it up and both leagues would prefer that you own a different leagues team in your existing home market.

Orange county and LA are technically in a single media market but both are easily big enough to be considered their own markets. OC is the 6th most populous county in the US and anyone from here views them as separate and distinct
