If the giants were able to hold off A’s moving to San Jose area dodgers gotta be able to stop them from coming to Inglewood if so inclined? Right?

Plus even though dodger stadium is nice and historic a brand new possibly sofi level new stadium would be an interesting dilemma for dodgers org.

It’ll be a massive legal battle for sure.

But given Stan’s history, I could imagine he’s looking at a possible LA move.

I’m reading he owns more land in Inglewood from the Hollywood park racetrack.

It’s going to be an interesting next couple years for the Angels that’s for sure

I feel like Inglewood would have to be smart enough this time to make a new stadium contingent on private funding for the people mover.

As an Inglewood resident the city is so weird at the moment. We have these mini video billboards next to abandoned strip malls and nearly dilapidated homes. Wonder where they drop a stadium anyway. Long Beach seems a more interesting idea. It’s closer to OC and further from DTLA and has the space.

Isn’t Angel Stadium still a really good facility? AC jokes aside, it’s also one of the few raining iconic ballparks.

The Giants only had grounds to protest the A's move because the former A's ownership had explicitly made a deal with the Giants granting them exclusive rights to the South Bay to entice the Giants to stay in the Bay Area. That was back when the Giants were threatening to leave SF for Florida, and before the South Bay tech boom.

By the time the A's wanted to move to SJ that market was worth big bucks, and the A's had forgotten to invoke the clause that would've restored the South Bay to mutually shared territory after the Giants ended up staying in SF (oops).

So the A's vs Giants territory rights battle is a very unique and nuanced case, and would be difficult to cite as a precedent unless the Dodgers already have something on the books granting them exclusive territory rights to LA County / a specifically defined region.

But I feel like implied in there is some sort of territorial rights that teams have some rights of first refusal on. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was city and/or county based. Inglewood and Long Beach aren’t in LA city but they are in the county.

That said LA is extremely populated and supports to varying degrees 2 NFL and 2 NBA teams. This situation does kind of feel like the nets moving from NJ to Brooklyn which is literally NYC.

Maybe this is cope but I just can't imagine there's that much benefit to doing that. Seems like you'd just be moving into Dodgers territory and gambling that enough people are going to jump ship to make it worth making things worse on your existing fan base.

Angel Stadium is sitting on one of the best plots of land in Southern California. They've got all the Disneyland adjacent hotels, a nearby airport, three freeways bordering the lot, a new shopping center going up next door at the Honda Center, a massive public transit hub between the Angels and the Ducks that will maybe, kinda, has a tiny shot at having high speed rail park at the far end of the Angels parking lot.

Plus the Angels still have a huge fan base in the Inland Empire, Riverside, North San Diego County, etc.

Why would you give all that up to go be the metaphorical Chargers playing as a second fiddle team in LA?
