Note the 2nd one in the bottom left background. My dog spooked them up out of the brush into these trees and they just sat there and let me get pretty close to them. Amazing how well they blend in with the trees.

Advice How to attract swallows back to my house??

β€’ Upvotes

hi bird nerds!

I live in Victoria, Australia and last year a family of swallows made a nest outside my door. We got to watch them make a nest, incubate tiny eggs, and see 3 tiny babies hatch and grow up, it was absolutely incredible.

It's the start of spring and this year they came back!! They started building their little mud nest, but then my husband knocked down the nest :'( ON PURPOSE. He's in the dog house until further notice.

I believe they're called Welcome swallows and are similar to Barn swallows in that they make a nest from mud and other things on a flat or corner surface. But you guys are the bird nerds so I might be wrong.

Since the new nest is knocked down, is there any way to attract them back or will they now deem the area "not safe" and never return? Should I try to attract them back or would that be too much interference?

Was very surprised to get a visit from a Painted Bunting at my house in South Florida, they usually visit during the cold months. First time I see one in August.

I haven’t seen any hummingbirds out this year and suddenly this guy wanted to show up so I got some cool photos! Definitely a little difficult with how skittish they are, as soon as I raised my camera they would fly off but it’s alright because they kept coming back!

Discussion Birding near Ogunquit Maine

Hi! I will be in the Ogunquit/Portsmouth area this weekend and was looking for some fun birding spots. Does anyone have any good recommendations (either scenery wise or birding wise?)

Thank you very much!

Bird ID Request Bird identification : pigeon with rust orange head

Hi everyone,
Today when running along the river (which itself is surrounded by forests), I saw a bird on the high voltage cable, I didn’t take a picture but this was a very unusual bird. It looked like a pigeon but had a rust orange head from the base of the neck, a black body (at least from the side), and white legs.
The location is in the south of Belgium.

Any ideas of what bird it could be ? Gemini told me that it could be an Archangel Pigeon but I’m not totally sure of that
