I turned the rebated rim down in the .50 AE in my bench top lathe .125 which gave me a perfect cup. That left about .045 wall thickness at the base. I then soldered a brass ID disc on as the rim. Put it back in the lathe and turned the rim to .750 diameter. The soft solder is not in a pressure bearing position and merely holds the rim on. I made my first 25 about a year ago and have about a dozen firings on them. The one pictured I made yesterday. The process is more involved than what I explained here but I have fun with it.

How did you attach the rim?
