Charging with kicker

Is there a way to get this kicker to charge/maintain my battery while trolling?

You can add a charging kit.
They're expensive for what they are and require removing the flywheel to install the coils
They output max 5amps IIRC

Hmm maybe worth just adding a second battery and a switch instead…

Got it ya I can either get a solar set up or set up dual batteries which would give me more bang for my buck I’m gathering

Former Merc dealer. Sell it and buy one with charging built in. The cost to upgrade will equal the price of the engine.

450-500 on a good day. Merc 4-5-6 don't have charging unless you go for the sailpower 5 but its a long shaft. You'd have to get up to a 8 to get it with electric start which includes the charging system. best bet as others mentioned is a second battery and/or a solar panel. really depends what the boat is and what you use it for.

Small boat just fishing but I’m going to run a diesel heater this winter

Ah cool! they are fantastic off a little tank. Just make sure you have your airflows right. Also solar wise you could definitely fit 1 or 2 100w panels up ontop of that bimini and hook them up with a victron mppt. they'll add a bit of weight but great in the long run..

You would need to add an alternator. Are you sure it doesn't have one?

I’m not sure it’s pull start only so probably not

A solar panel setup would be the way to go. Those motors don't have a charging system.

I second this. If you have room for it, solar is easy electricity
