What is this?
Because I'm a sadist, I decided I wanted to try and keep a record of every retro FPS game ever sold and I thought others might get a kick out of it too. So that's what this is; a list of boom shoots dating back to Wolfenstein3D in '92.
Each row includes the name of the game; whether it's a game, expansion or remaster; the year of release; the dev; the publisher; the engine it's running on; and some links to buy the game if it's available.
Why are there 3 different lists?
I've broken this down into 3 eras. The Classic Era (Wolfenstein 3D to Half Life 2), the Revival Era (Doom (2016) to present), and The Dead Zone (Half Life 2 to Doom (2016)). I think this is a neat way of breaking down the list and shows how the retro FPS scene has changed over time.
Is it 100% complete?
No, it's not. There's definitely stuff missing - stuff I don't know about, stuff I'm not sure should be included, stuff I've just forgotten. I'm never going to claim it's an exhaustive list - I don't think that's possible.
"X game is missing!" and "X game shouldn't be on here!"
Cool - like I said I probably missed stuff so feel free to drop anything you think should be included in this thread. Likewise, if you think something shouldn't be on here, comment that below too - can't promise I'll take the game off, but it's always good to talk about this stuff!
Some big names currently missing are:

Not new at all on the retro gaming action scene with my first love with Half-Life and Wolfenstein/Doom, my current kick is mainly System Shock atm but I would also love to check out more of Blood and it's classics or worth playing mods/addons.
I recall there was even an- mod that mixes Doom and Blood iirc.
Also I even discovered there is an map addon based on a horror sci-fi thriller movie that I like which- it is Omega Man's 1971 movie! :)
Seriously I was wondering if somebody did an modding addon take on Omega Man and it turned out there is thankfully one for Blood! :D

In my previous post about Toyful Wonderworld, I mentioned how strange monsters of the night could stalk you during the game. But what happens when the moon itself has it out for you?!

Hey everyone!
I just released Update v1.2 for the Ultimate Retro Shooter Template for Godot 4! This update focuses heavily on a new gib system, a faction & retaliation system (for DOOM style infighting), and a complete overhaul of enemy AI behavior that brings a massive performance boost (Pretty much a distance-based throttling for AI logic, navigation, and sprite updates).
U.R.S.TÂ is designed to help anyone create a complete retro shooter without writing a single line of code. It was in development for nearly a year and released last month (August 7).
This is truly a passion project for me, so I’ll be actively supporting it and adding new features while sticking to the main goal of it: Not a single line of code needed, but clean, heavily commented and organized code for experienced to use and expand upon.
You can find the Itch page, Documentation, and Video Documentation links below:

So sorry if such a topic like this one was done here before because I have been looking at how some iconic shooters from the mid 90s have been strangely missing for some reason.
For instance, Heretic and Hexen both had their respective games remastered as I noticed how their later installments never got any updated version as I really want to play Hexen 2 so badly, but the graphics look a bit crusty that I hope to see a remastered version come out soon.

Malefact: Evil Unchained is a horror boomer shooter that uses the UZDoom engine. It goes for a slower, creepier style of gameplay than most games in the genre, more like Doom 3 than classic Doom, but still features plenty of action! There's also a demo, which can be downloaded from Steam. https://store.steampowered.com/app/4908950/Malefact_Evil_Unchained/
EDIT: I don't know if I'm allowed to ask this, but can whoever manages the boomer shooter database thingy add the game to the list?
UPDATE: We're well aware that the slow movement speed, though integral to our vision of the game, will be polarising. For this reason, when you start a new campaign episode, you'll be given the option to choose between 3 different modes of play before the campaign actually starts (note that the mode names are placeholders and might change):

Hi, me and a few friends are making an opensource "DOOM clone" in a custom engine, with a twist of non-euclidean level geometry achieved by seamless portals (similar to ULTRAKILL's Fraud). We're planning a Steam release hopefully sometime next year.
Currently we are based on OpenGL 4.3 and are quite happy with all of its quality-of-life additions, but if we really tried hard, we probably could get down to OpenGL 3.3 which would mean support for Nvidia 8800 GT, GTX 2x0, Radeon HD 3000/4000 cards etc. .
So, I'm asking, how many of you are still rocking these old boys? If you do, is it out of principle, or for financial reasons? And would you want to play a new indie release like ours on them?
Or, given how the game looks like compared to e.g. Oblivion that came out in 2006 (lol), would you maybe say it's just not morally justifiable for a game like ours to not run on 20 year old hardware?
I'm really not sure what I want to think myself, so I'd be happy for any and all opinions.

Such an atrocious experience. 1st things 1st, Witchaven 2 not only didn't do anything better than its predecessor, but it also got worse, WAY worse
I began mapping keys to my convenience, only to note just a few of them work as intended (attack and jump keys) and the rest remained with the default keys. Already a bad start
Spike traps were already a problem in the 1st game, although I dare to say, in my experience, they become problematic in MAP06 (if we exclude the one from MAP04, the tight room with the pentagram) In Witchaven 2 it is a big ass problem as soon as the 1st level IN SEVERAL AREAS
IIRC, only in ONE occassion the spell attack worked properly. That's right: one of the basic (and even outstanding) aspect of the game doesn't work as intended. This is like playing Descent and not being able to use the secondary attack
There are some interesting additions, like having breakable glasses, slopes and the weapon enchantment. At least for the 1st level (which I couldn't beat) there are interesting areas to explore. However none of this truly matters because the game fails miserably at basic stuff, so none of the fancy stuff can do justice for the game
It really makes you wonder how on Earth Capstone managed to fuck up things so much. Not only they didn't fix any issues from the 1st Witchaven game, they ended up adding more issues to the game. Some people don't learn their lesson? In any case, next week I'll move on with Hexen 2

So let me see, how do I put it? Well basically what I am looking for in particular are some fun boomer type FPSes with RPG aspects where every time the player shoots an enemy, their guns become more powerful.
I don’t know if such a concept is rare in the genre as I have a huge fondness for RPGs like Disgaea and Final Fantasy type games that I was hoping to find some good boomer shooters that use grinding mechanics since I could use a game in the genre that lets me level up my guns the more I use them.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for recommendations for a two-player co-op shooter/campaign game that can be played online on two separate PCs.
I’m not looking for an online-only game like Destiny or similar live-service shooters. I want a proper co-op campaign, preferably with a decent story, that is age-appropriate for a 10-year-old.
It can be paid or free.
Any suggestions for games that fit this?

Here is the inked version.
I made sure to include plenty of progress pics so i don't wanna hear any is this AI talk :D
Make sure to check them all out.
I also played around with a gradient and decided to include that version as well.
Let me know what you think!

So I just finished playing through Painkiller the other day and felt like I needed a bit of a pallet cleanser of an FPS. Recently I bought the black labyrinth DLC for Amid Evil, I had already played the bass game a few years ago and it was incredible!
It is so much like playing a modern fast paced version of something like heretic or Hexen. It’s so vibrant and it’s colour palette yet minimalistic at the same time, it makes everything look really good if you don’t stop to look too critically at all, similar to the system shock remake, looks great but if you look a bit closer a bit pixlie, but thats the style!
Anyway I’m playing it right now and after four years and playing so many different first person shooters since then this is still one of the best ones I’ve played. The core combat feels so visually satisfying and meaty in the best kind of way. Music is also great. I really like Dusk By New Blood but this one’s my favourite.

I’m someone who loves high-speed gameplay and movement. Every time I see a boomer shooter, I get hyped for the fast-paced action. When I first download and play one, I have a blast, but after about 30 to 60 minutes, heavy boredom hits me. The game starts feeling aimless and repetitive—just walking around and killing things.
There's no compelling story to push you forward, and no real variety. It's just lines of enemies in front of you to clear out, along with a few hidden secret areas.
Honestly, my enjoyment with these games feels like spending time in a training range in any other game. I can mess around, kill dummies in creative ways, and practice mechanics, which is fun for a bit. But since there’s no clear objective or mission, there's no way I could stay in a training range for 3 or 4 hours straight, or play it daily.
I really want to enjoy boomer shooters because I adore their movement and core gameplay, but the boredom keeps kicking in. It took a massive effort just to finish Doom Eternal and DUSK.
