Heard someone say that budgies that are not green (like, for example, blue budgies) are less healthy. Is that true?

I'm going to write my entire story in order for you to understand the context of my question.

My female 6 year old budgie died yesterday. I thought she was just being cold or moody or maybe has flu, so all I did was give her vitamins and monitor her. She had coccidia without me realizing how bad it is until it was too late. I asked my dad to take her to the vet repeatedly over 3 weeks because I was worried, like it always was whenever she felt a bit sick. The vet is far and I don't have money or able to drive. I was fed up with him so I asked to get her to vet immediately the day before she died, by the time we were there she was already pooping blood..

The vet diagnosed her and everything, I gave her the medicine and hoped that she'd get well, but I felt it was over. I kept caring for her and try to make her drink water or eat something. She refused but i kept trying anyways. She then went down to the floor of the cage and sat there but moved around every few minutes. Suddenly she couldn't stand and sat on her belly so i went and picked her up so check on her, she was a bit uncomfortable but i wanted to make her warm. She wasn't resisting my head scratches, she's not completely tamed, like she knows my face and my hand but she just never accepted standing on it without food on. My other male budgie (her old mate died 6 months ago of natural causes or sudden car noises in the dark) kept wanting to check out and flew around the room. My cat leaked into it and instinct pumped in, don't worry though nothing happened we secured the room and sent him out. I do know this was a serious fault on my part but thank god no one got injured. So later on he was trying to reach her since i was sitting on the floor in front of the cage and landed onto my hand, he never did that or accepted the idea that i was friendly, but he did it for her. He checked on her and jumped back into the cage. A few minutes later she was giving her last breaths, I tried to not give in to emotions and to keep talking to her with the nice voice she always heard me with. She died in my hands and I couldn't resist not crying as I held her in my hand and petting her head. I feel like shit since then. My other budgie runs whenever he sees me or has my hand around his cage. I offered him food but he refused and kept attacking me. I didn't tame him yet I have no idea what to do to convince him i'm a friend.. I'm not sure if he sees me as someone who killed her or what. He wouldn't land on my hand if he thought I was harming her, right? I seriously don't know what to do I already feel sick and lost my appetite but I want to at least make sure he's not seeing me as someone who harms

This is Bobby (blue boy🐦) and Poppy (yellow girl 💛).

They've been living together for just about 4 years now. I got Bobby about 6 months before Poppy.

The last few years life with them has been fantastic. They have quite a big cage and it used to sit in the living room. They've had nearly free range of the house with perches in their favorite spots. This meant that whenever I was home they could spend quality time with me. Watching movies, hosting parties, doing chores. Bobby has always loved to follow me around or sit on my shoulder as I went about my days. He even joined in the fun when we had friends over. Poppy was mostly content to sit on her perch and sing with the big cage mostly to herself. She'd come hang with me from time to time. But she's not as invested in being my sidekick as Bobby. And all was well. Until things got a bit stirred up.

I got married last year. And my wife has a Cat. So we decided that the birds should have a room of their own. The room is plenty big and they still have purches and toys and a big cage. The cat isn't even problematic. It mainly just wants to roll on the carpet in the bird room and really doesn't worry me (although the cat is under constant supervision when she's in there). So neither the room or the cat is the problem. But for months I've felt bad for the birds. The big problem with the new bird room is, shamefully, that I'm rarely in it.

I come home from work, make dinner with my wife, work on a project or two, then cuddle in bed and fall asleep with the cat. I regularly clean the birds cage. I feed and water them. But there's always something to be done, and I'm not usually in there very long.

Bobby is very needy. So without me to be his best friend, he relentlessly flirts with poppy. She doesn't like it at all. They aren't really fighting. No physical harm on either of them. But poopy is constantly squawking at him to leave her alone. And he'll follow her around the cage.

It's to the point that it's hard to practice his old training and puzzle routines for more than a minute before he has to go back to the cage to flirt with her again.

I know I mainly need to find more time to spend with them and try to undo the social strain I've put on them. But is there anything you'd recommend to help him to stop fixating on her? So I can more easily retrain him?

How do you handle the poops when you want to let your bird free? Can they learn to poop in one place?

Pixie has accumulated quite a vast vocabulary. He's always picking up new things. Closed captioning on certain apps deciphers it differently. I know what he's saying most of the time, because he's either learned it from me, or picked it up from media we consume repeatedly. Although I'm pretty sure he's said "sweet bitch" and "pretty bitch" a few times and I rarely use the B word.

So... What do you guys hear?

Finished him this morning, the beak looks goofy because I cut the cere and beak as one.

Got loads of ideas for colours, I will end up with a whole flock lol

I had to face the worst thing I have been dreading for ages. My best mate and loyal companion for 12 years had to be put to sleep this morning he became so unwell from no where. I’m gonna miss him so much, only a small bird but took up such a big place in my heart. I’m in bits. Even his cage friend is confused. Love you Freddy forever missed.

Hello, I’ve had SpongeBob (the full yellow budgie) for near a year now; I got him a partner, Bowser, after the quarantine period he was still scared of me but today he stepped up on my palm multiple times to eat millet from me :)

Hello all,
I recently became the new parent to a lost budgie. Found outside, unable to reunite with owners, and now with no luck have decided to keep.

I’m looking to get this cage for (him? Her? Unsure.), as I want something large enough for birdie to have a friend (as I have now learned I must acquire), and large enough I don’t feel guilty having birds in a cage. Advice on if that is a good choice or an alternative is much appreciated!

Will be doing a petco run for toys and other enrichment (no mirrors tho), and feeding a mixed diet of seeds, veg + fruits currently.

Due for a vet visit as well but in the meantime knowing sex and any notable issues to ask about would be great!!

I usually do months of research before committing to a new pet, so I feel over my head. Any and all advice is appreciated!

If I go on a 2 week vacation and leave my birds with my mother would they be upset that I left or would it be like nothing happened?

hiya everyone! so it looks like im changing my budgies cage to my room which is easier to bird proof and much more comfortable to stay in for me to supervise their cute hyper butts. but now i got a question, so my room has a split ac which means i can control the temperature of the room more comfortably, what temperature should it be at and can i turn it off when im not around? their cage has been in a warm environment for a while (no ac) or will it make them catch a cold?

My friend joked that I should make a pillow for my birds out of their own feathers. I’m not likely to do that, but I have started collecting their feathers while I clean their cage. The bag shows what they’ve produced in the last couple months. I don’t know how they aren’t naked.
The plant is wheatgrass I got for them to eat.

I took Cash today to see the avian vet and considering she came from a hoarding house and was on all seed diet. The vet said she is in very good health. Now just gotta work on eating vegetables and pellets.

this is a pretty unusual post for this sub but idk what to do. i recently put my baby's feathers in a small corked glass container because i've seen people make a keepsake out of it. it was so cute! the small yellow body and face feathers!

unfortunately during this time i was in the process of shifting to another place. i do remember taking it there but right after that i was busy prepping for a week long trip.

now that ive come back i cannot find that bottle anywhere. ive searched high and low in the places i think i kept it, in my bags, in my boxes anywhere i can possibly think of and it is hitting me quite hard for some reason.

i feel like ive been so careless? so lax and negligent. that if i couldn't even take care of something like that how can i even take care of my baby.

ugh its pretty frustrating and idk what to do. people keep telling me that itll turn up but bruh it was so small and so easy to have been misplaced/thrown. :((
