Hi, I need help with my studio setup. I'm more of an artist than anything else, less on the technical end. My studio is for recording, mixing & mastering.. I guess you could say melodic rap or hip-POP vocals but without auto tunes. Maybe alla Travis Scott, Juice Wrld, Drake type of vibe..

‎What I have is a intel Core 2017 27-Inch iMac that runs Ventura 13.6.7 & has 64gb of RAM. The first 5 yrs I had my iMac I didn't use it much so it runs great. I also have Logic Pro 11.0.1, a M-Audio Sputnik, a pair of Yamaha NS-10 Audient iD14 MK2 & the Sennheiser HD-25 headphones. I do have a pair of Behringer Truth 2031A monitors too. I would just need to get one of them fixed, but I think I'm covered without them seeing as how I'm focused on vocals at the moment, but they might be good as another reference point in the future.

‎What I think I'm sure I need & that's within my budget hardware wise is the Sennheiser HD600 headphones. The HD600 headset & NS-10 monitors should work well together & do the trick headset & monitors wise. The Truth 2031A monitors could hypothetically be helpful on the low end in the future? I'd also need the Art SLA-1 power amplifier for the NS-10 monitors & the Audient iD14 MK2 would be my audio interface since I'm just focusing on vocals.

‎I'll be going with a lot of plugins w the remainder of my budget to cover as many bases as possible. I think these are the essential plugins I'll be getting, using, that fit within the remainder of my budget, Pulsar 1178, Tube-Tech CL 1B, Soothe3, Valhalla Vintage Verb, Sir Audio Standard Clip & Voxenga SPAN is free.

‎These are the rest of the plugins that are outside my budget currently, but that I think I might need, FabFilter Pro DS, FabFilter Pro-Q 3, Fab Filter Pro-L 2 Synchro Arts VocAlign & Soundtoys Decapitator.

‎So I guess why I'm making this post is to try & get some help about if I'm going in the right direction with everything or right about my thoughts with the software & hardware I'd be getting. I have a good ear & I have taken classes in regards to this subject but it's been a while & I'm far from a expert. I'm just confident once I get what I need I can get caught up & make everything work. I'd also be happy to explain why I think I need or I'm looking into all these specific plugins. I just didn't want to make this post any longer than it already is. You can def correct me if I've gotten something wrong about why I think I need all these plugins though. I'm super open to suggestions, like if there's a plugin I should buy instead of another, I'm all ears. I guess I'm hoping that I can somehow cover all my bases with maybe free plugins as far as the remaining plugins or switch things around or as I said, I'm all ears to any other ideas that are outside the box. So this is technically not a studio, but my home office desk. The spread is like 180º because of my displays being so wide (and curved). I can definitely hear something funny going on with the audio because I'm technically in the exact middle between those speakers. I know I should place the speakers at a smaller angle and not to my exact left and right.

I've been looking for speaker stands so I can position them potentially to the left and right of that top display in the back.

But since it's a standing desk I can't use floor stands (because I'd want the speakers to move with the desk). But I can't find any desk clamp speaker stands that are high enough so that the speakers would end up above those screens (Gigabyte M32UC). It would be good if they had the right screw holes to attach my speakers (Neumann KH 120 II).

Does anyone know such a product that clamps on my desk and also provides enough height so that the speakers could be above the displays?

I have recently sound treated my garage with DIY rockwool panels. I put a double width one as a ceiling cloud, two as first reflection wall panels, and two at tree front corners creating triangles as bass traps.

I notice that in the corners and rear wall the bass is huge, and in the mixing position it's not that big. Is that what it's supposed to be like or do I have a phasing issue?

I'm just trying to make sure this new setup adding the second microphone will work before purchasing and totally redoing half the music/streaming room to upgrade to 2 microphones. If you have questions about the diagram please post it so I can add details, but I think the diagram has everything on it. Thanks in Advance 😃

I’m about to move into a new house and have the opportunity to retrofit one bedroom as a home studio. My main use is guitars, keyboards and spoken word for VOIP/streaming. I’m in the UK so 230v 50Hz and whatever conventions and regulations we have for electrical work etc.

I’m planning on adding more mains outlets throughout the room.

I want a wired Ethernet for internet access for my Mac.

Two other Ethernet connections for distributed audio to two other rooms in the house (I’d rather avoid wireless due to reliability and latency). This may be upgraded to AVB in the future hence not using audio cables.

I’m not going to use dimmer switches anywhere in the house to avoid introducing noise.

I also understand that I need to ensure a single earth point for the house.

What else should I include in the design?

Surge protection is probably a good idea.

If you’ve installed studio wiring, what really helped? What, if anything do you wish you knew at the time?

Can anyone share advice or direct me to resources for this stuff? I'll be employing an electrician for this, but using a specialist contractor is possible. Either way, I’d like to have a better understanding of what I’d be asking for.

I love my Samson S-Patch patchbay, but the (wonderful) switches on the front make it difficult to add labels. My solution was to add magnetic dry-erase strips and they work so well I am launching them as a side-gig.

I own a small local studio that has been slowly growing. I am looking to upgrade my mixing console, i prefer to mix on a console which is how i learned but in the new studio i have been mostly mixing in the daw itself.

Im simply looking for some info regarding what items will work and what is required to hook up a mixing console to my DAW and be able to mix on it and use my outboard gear.

This console isn't what im buying but something like this. APB DynaSonics Mixing Console Spectra Series

What would i need interface wise to get this or something similar to this working?

I bought a house, and am blessed with the basement space pictured. The thing is... i'm not sure where the best place for my speakers, in order to account for room modes, so that my editing experience is at its peak potential.

My initial thought was - put my desk/speakers along the 12' section on top, firing back towards the 'game room' (to rid myself of those pesky low frequency waves), since it is easily 30' or more to the back wall. However, there is that roughly 70 sq ft section to the right of that position,, screwing up those side reflections...

Any advice here?

And when I try to record music on band lab it only plays that loud static noise

I remember seeing stuff like this on my facebook ads, somewhat retro style office pods, and thought, hmm, why not use it as a singing booth? Maybe after placing a handful of sound panels here and there, have routing for xlr and ts/trs cables maybe, a vent for the ac so you don’t cook in it, a light, etc.

This one is not even as fancy looking as some other pods that were going up to 8-9k on Amazon.
Now the question is, can this be made at home with some 2x4s, plexiglass, some plywood, carpet, LEDs and sound panels?

I mean, if it exists, it can be recreated, but what are some Pros n cons of doing it out of wood and plexiglass vs what looks like probably aluminum, plastic and what looks could be actual glass for the see through door?

I recently bought a mic the brand is Rockville ans it’s called rcm pro studio/recording condenser microphone and the bundle included a 5 channel pro mixer w usb interface.

The mic sounds good not the best but good as of now since I’m a beginner but I’m having trouble when I plug in the headphones to the interface I can only hear what’s coming out of the mic and not the sound of the beat or anything else I’m confused also I would like to hear other peoples voice and the beat aswell but I don’t know what to do or how to do it I’m trying to describe this the best I can like I said I’m new at this and would love to get some help. Thank you!

So I'm thinking about making my garage into a studio and just make a room within the room with an air chamber + rock wool + plasterboard solution and investing on a good soundproof door (the big garage door will be turned into a normal sized door).

My problem is there is a smaller (6 m2) room below the garage that's accessible through a cement staircase with an opening of roughly 1.80x0.8 m on the ground.

I'm very unsure of what to do with this since I'm afraid it will ruin the soundproofing effort of the rest of the room and mess with the room internal acoustics too so that recording and mixing might be affected.

Should I build an acoustic kind of door there? Should I just permanently close off the mini room?

Am I overreacting and it's ok to have the staircase open?
