Raised street covers

Is it just me? Why are all the new covers, the ones on the street, hella raised. Not to be overly bothered by a minor thing, but Its been annoying me.

Your dog knows “come,” but are you confident they actually will?

Hey durm, using my one allowed self-promo post here. Trying to make it count without sounding too sales-pitchy lol

This is Mochi. She’s the best girl and the inspiration for my training business. If you want to feel more confident with your pup listening to you, then this is for you. Feel free to message me, check out my website here, or find me on Rover here.

If you let me know that you found me on Reddit, I’ll drop the consultation price to $.01 (Rover won’t let me go to $0 lol), so reach out!

Thanks for sticking with me so far. If this isn’t for you, I hope you enjoyed watching mochi be the best girl 🐶

Disclaimer: I do not recommend or encourage anyone to let their dogs run free off leash, especially if laws require them to be on leash. I’ve been training mochi for well over a year, and with that I had her on leash right before and directly after recording this video. Please do not attempt any off leash activities with your dog in public, especially if you or your dog are not diligently trained to do so.

Duke Health wants me to prove I DON’T need financial assistance

After making an appointment in MyChart, I noticed a letter indicating I was eligible for 100% financial assistance, based on an income level that was less than 1/3 of my actual income. It also gave me an extra household member. When I called Customer Service, the woman (who was very nice) informed me that. I would need to apply for financial assistance so they could review my case and tell me I’m not eligible for financial assistance, including sending copies of my pay stub.

I am sorely tempted to ignore the form, since I shouldn’t be required to send them my personal employment and financial information. After all, I never applied for financial assistance. The problem appears to be with their third party vendor, which, according to Customer Service, is Experian.

Has anyone else run into problems with the financial assistance program at Duke Health?

One of my favorite pieces of night photography I’ve ever taken. Just figured I’d share. Feel free to have it if you have a use for it.

Help/recommendations needed - unusual dog training problem

We are looking for help persuading our somewhat elderly dog (50 lbs, 14ish years old) to tolerate being placed in the Bailey chair. We'd really appreciate any advice or recommendations for dog trainers who might be able to help.

(For those who have not had to deal with a dog suffering from esophageal problems, a Bailey chair is a feeding chair that will hold a dog comfortably upright during and for a half-hour or so after eating).

Anyone have any experience with Duke Forest Dental?

I used to go to the dentist that was formerly in that office space (Dr. Ray) but she has since retired. It seems that Duke Forest Dental is relatively new and doesn't have many reviews online. Has anyone here used their services?

Two Restaurants Moving into 949 Washington St.

Sorry if it's paywalled, I never know why I can sometimes see articles on NO and sometimes cant.

Building two restaurants at once aims to strike a balance in Durham’s foodie scene, the couple said, that could withstand the whims of taste and economic trends. Cornelia’s tasting menus will be between $115 and $180, while The Vintner and The Baker will serve coffee and baked goods during the day and glasses of wine and small plates at night.

This building did a great job during its renovation to keep the original character. It felt unfortunate seeing it sit vacant every time I passed it riding my bike. I'm sure the tasting menu prices are going to make people angry, but very exciting there's also a bakery for moroe every day needs

Child hit exiting school bus

A child was struck by a car passing a stopped school bus on University Dr. fifteen minutes ago. I work at a business on this street and a man ran in asking if we had seen anything. He was driving by, saw the accident and pulled over. Do not pass a stopped school bus. Wherever you're going is not that important.

Where to find kiwi berries, aka hardy kiwi?

I've enjoyed kiwi berries (aka hardy kiwi, Chinese gooseberry, Actinidia arguta) from friends' gardens in other states. I know they can be grown here... meaning I could harvest them from my own garden in a few years. In the meantime I would love to find some here - partly to share with my family so I can convince them they're worth planting and tending!

Maybe storebought: e.g. here's a Redditor in Houston raving about them after finding them in Costco last year. Maybe growing in a community garden? Maybe at the farmers market? For sale direct from one of our nearby farms? Suggestions welcome if you've seen these delightful fruits in/around Durham.

Thanks for your help!
