Information E-Scooter info ( Valid as of Sept 1st 2026)

Currently, e-scooters are only permitted to be operated in the City of Burlington as part of the Centennial Trail E-Scooter Pilot. They are not allowed to be operated anywhere else in the City of Burlington.
Where permitted, the following safety guidelines must be followed when riding an e-scooter:
Be 16 years of age or older;
Wear a Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved motorcycle or bicycle helmet, if 16 or 17 years-old ā although helmets are strongly recommended for all riders;
Stand at all times;
Yield to pedestrians and cyclists;
Travel at a maximum of 24 km/h - itās not lawful or safe for e-scooters to travel faster than that.
No passengers, no cargo, and no baskets; and Ā
It is illegal to tow anything ā including another person, vehicle, or device.
Equipment Requirements
Two wheels (maximum 17 inches) and brakes
A bell or horn
A white or amber light on the front and a red light on the rear of the e-scooter or worn by the operator on their person
An electric motor not exceeding 500 watts
Maximum capable speed of 24 km/hr
Maximum weight of 45 kgs
No pedals or seats (or any surface that could be used as a seat) are permitted
