Help with SO/Frontend

Hi! I’m planning to build a bartop with a few games I like, and I don’t intend for it to be one of those setups with ten thousand games, just a handful of games I really enjoy, like KOF, SF, maybe an MK or two, Metal Slug, Altered Beast, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Golden Axe, etc.

The thing is, I don’t know much about this stuff, so I’d like some recommendations for a Raspberry Pi 3 frontend or operation system that displays the games as a list rather than organizing them by console/system.

I’d also like to know which versions of Street Fighter II are the most worth playing, since back in the day I only had access to the first one. 😅

Don't know about RP3 front ends or anything, but in terms of Street Fighter, the most essential are:

SF2: Champion Edition

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo

Street Fighter Alpha 2 & 3

And Street Fighter 3: Third Strike

Thank you so much! I only played SF2 when I was really young, and you even recommended the best versions of SF3! I really appreciate it

Just download an image that's already setup, build it on the memory card and turn it on. Easy if you have a pc, also set the pi up on your wifi and then you can connect to the file system and drag and drop games to it. Just shut the pi down before turning off, just turning it off will have a good chance of corrupting the build.

I briefly tried Batocera (I’m waiting for a more suitable microSD card to arrive). Is there a way to make it list just the games? When I checked, everything was divided by system

Keep it by system as its easier, I left them all alone apart from "arcade" i have aboit 60 games and do play them all. I just connect to it in windows file system and drag in or out the ganes I want. If you only want a few it might be easier to start with none.

I think organizing it by games would be easier since, at least for now, I have fewer than 30 games in total

I dont think you can, each folder is an emulator, so if you remove all games from "arcade" the options goes from the menu, and 1 back and it reappears.

You can create custom gameslists too. And there's a "favorites" gameslist. If you want to just use MAME and have it boot to just a gameslist of those MAME games I think you'd need a PC. Batocera, Retropie, etc are systems that are specifically for putting all the emulators in one place. It's designed specifically to do what you don't want it to do lol. If you just want to play arcade games, you need to setup something that just runs MAME.
