Recommendations Is Franklin a good suburb?

Upvotes

My family is looking to buy a house or townhouse and it looks like Franklin has a lot of listed properties within our budget. We have always rented in the belconnen area and loved it.

What do you think of Franklin, especially for a young family.

I was driving to Gordon via Cotter road from Duffy when i saw a lot of green dust/smoke/mist that was floating over the mountains.

Any clue what that is? I suspect pollen but im not too sure though cause it had a crisp barbecue like smell.

If it is pollen, my condolences to the pepes with allergies

Recommendations visiting end of month - tips?

hi there! American here. I am visiting Australia for the first time. looking for transportation tips and daytime activities.

I’ll be staying around City Centre. I won’t have a car. What sort of destinations are within reach?

For activities, I love a good park, not as interested in museums sadly, but I can pretend to be cultured enough to enjoy an art exhibit. It would be cool to bike around the lake. My idea of vacation is sitting on a dock or shore, fishing until I am sunburnt. Not a huge shopper but I like a good local coffee or bookstore.

Recommendations Does anyone know where i could go to get things 3d printed?

Hi I'm living in canberra and i'm very into miniature making (warhammer 40k) and i just wanted a few small items 3d printed to kitbash with and not needing to break the bank by buying a 3d printer. I've gone online and searched places to get stuff done but its either the website is gone or they no longer 3d print.

Recommendations Looking for people to boulder/climb with

Hi all,

I am a Dutchie (30M) visiting Canberra for my PhD from the 6h of Sept until late October. I was hoping to do some outside bouldering or climbing close to Canberra. I am keeping an eye on the bouldering gyms in Canberra and any activities they might host, but since I am only there for a short period I hoped to get to know some people quickly 😄. Please be in touch if you'd like to show me some local rocks!

my 16 year old daughter just told me she was groped at comic con Canberra. she couldn’t see who it was because it was so crowded otherwise she would have yelled and hit them.

im devastated and furious.

Light Rail Is there anything planned for this massive block of vacant land between Curtin and Yarralumla (which is along a future light rail corridor)?

Post image

Is there anything planned for this site? If not, what should go there? Is it privately owned? Surely this land next to a future light rail corridor shouldn’t and wouldn’t stay vacant for long…

Recommendations Options for social/drop in sports (ideally night time)

Hey everyone,

Moved here in March and have gotten established in some social tennis circles but I am really eager to play more sport. Ideally stuff thats accessible past 7pm on anyday of the week, I live in Braddon but can drive.

Stuff like random soccer teams, badminton, volley ball etc.

Recommendations Looking for a beginners shooting range

Hi all,

My family and I are looking to go shooting for the first time. I’ve been looking and found places like Majura park gun club and Canberra rifle club but they seem to do rifles and typically clay pigeons. I think pistols with a stationary target would be better for us.
I haven’t seen this anywhere on the subreddit, but if there’s a better place to ask please tell me.
Also hoping to do a single session without having to sign up for a membership of some kind.
If you know or have experience with a place that ticks these boxes please let me know.

SEC=UNCLASSIFIED ACT Vacation Study Program

Has anyone done the ACT Vacation Study Program? How was it? Did you need to meetup with your research supervisor often during the 6 weeks? Was it a good learning experience?

Thinking of doing it so any insights would help! :)

History Noodle Choice Dickson under new management from tomorrow 😫

Post image
69 Upvotes

The older woman owner told my wife in Mandarin today that today is their last day running the shop, and that the place will be under new management from tomorrow. Hopefully the prices stay comparable, but I don't think the food can. Hoping I'll be wrong.

Health violations or no, they've had the best and most filling Nasi Goreng for the 22 years I've lived in Canberra. I have two teenagers who have grown up on Nasi Goreng and Singapore noodles every odd Sunday when the day's been too good to prep meals, and they're enjoying their last serves tonight made by the originals.

Thanks for the service over the last two decades. 🖖

Events Canberra Brave AIHL Grand Finals! (Ice hockey)

Canberra Brave made it into the final round of the playoffs today and the semi finals was a nail biter than went into overtime. The Finals game is on today at 2PM and you can watch it on disney+ - ESPN if you're interested.

The commentators are pretty good at explaining things as if you're a new fan so its a good chance to get into the game if you've been potentially interested. (and if you get addicted like a lot of us, then the NHL season starts end of September)

Go boys!
